better late than never, ;)

Marrero aids Glavine with afew nice catches in the 1st.

Tejeda doubles in the 2nd and is moved station to station for the Oriole run.

Birds up, 1-0.

Edgy DC
Jun 18 2006 01:39 PM

O's score on a second-inning out to take a 1-0 lead.

Mets in stately royal blue hats. They're wearing blue armbands with blue stripes on the bases.

It's nice to change the uniforms and bases for a charitable gesture, but I still see a trojan horse to get marketing further onto the field and the uniforms.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 01:39 PM

Castros great throw to catch Patterson trying to steal second in the 2nd is worthy of note.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 01:42 PM

Oriole pitcher Adam Loewen, whoever the hell he is, looks good.
Not unreachable tho.
It would help if guys like Lastings werent swingin at shit over their heads.

Edgy DC
Jun 18 2006 01:52 PM

Milledge catches a fly for an out out, then coils up to make a throw... before realizing it's the third out.

Edgy DC
Jun 18 2006 02:05 PM

Beltran drives a foul into the upper deck before earning a two out walk. First and second, two out for Wright --- Beethoven's Fifth greets him.

Edgy DC
Jun 18 2006 02:05 PM

Grounds to the mound.

They'll get to this guy the third time through.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 02:14 PM

Mr. Franco with a great grab of a Patterson line drive to save a run!

Mora had reached on a bunt and took second on a deep fly to Beltran.
Awsum catch by Mr Franco---big!

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 02:22 PM

Woody with a lead off walk-nice.

Loewen throws afew up by Castros head, and Castro responds with a wicked liner to left.
Caught by Matos though, and the Mets are having a problem putting anything together offensively.

Woodward looking to steal second with two out and Milledge up.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 02:24 PM

AWWWWWWWWWWwwwww,

and Woody gets picked off.
Shoot- he looked like a fish outta water.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 02:31 PM

Matos Ks and makes a display of his displeasure on the 2nd strike (and rightly so, it looked).
Matos Ks on the following pitch in the same exact place, goes to the bench, says afew choice things from there, and gets tossed!

Glavine Ks Markakis and gets a soft ground out from Oriole pitcher Loewen.

Easy inning.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 02:34 PM

These are the Mets of 2006.
Scoring one run should not be such a chore.

But we'll see the bottom of the lineup here to start.
Milledge
Glavine,
then it turns over.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 02:38 PM

The rook and the old vet pitcher do nada.

Reyes slaps a single to left though.
Man, he's been hot.
Thats 6 straight he's hit in.

2 out rally anyone?

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 02:41 PM

Merrero takes one for the team.
Reyes was stealing 2nd at the time, and probly would have had it.

AND BOTH REYES AND MERRERO STEAL-
2nd and 3rd with Beltran up!

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 02:42 PM

AND HE HITS BELTRAN!
ouch!

Whats goin on here?!

Bases loaded, 2 out, David Wright at the plate.

Four runs.

One swing.

Happy Father's Day.

Shows knowledge of Met history as well.
Mentions Tommie Agee!

Meanwhile, the birds are reachin Glavine with singles to all fields and the Mets lead is cut-
4-3.

Jun 18 2006 03:02 PM

I am not as confident in the bullpen as Aaron Heilman has struggled to the point that his overall season can only be classified as "good" and not "excellent".....but I think Glavine's gotta come out. These older folks don't do so well in the hot weather some times.

Stewart was great. I got a laugh when he complimented what they're doing with SNY, but the game's on WB11 today. Kudos to the interviewer for avoiding the trap of trying to be funny like the funny guy he's interviewing.

Edgy DC
Jun 18 2006 03:05 PM

Wow. Assist to the enormous butt of Britton.

Elster88
Jun 18 2006 03:06 PM

Castro going the other way, just out of the reach of a leaping right fielder.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 03:06 PM

CASTRO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edgy DC
Jun 18 2006 03:07 PM

Castro hits it somewhere Britton's butt isn't.

I say Castro bought him another few batters.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 03:13 PM

Glavine goes to 3-2 on Markakis to start the inning.

Feliciano and Bradford up in the pen.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 03:14 PM

And Markakis doubles.
Make the move Willie.

Edgy DC
Jun 18 2006 03:16 PM

MLB.tv decides after six innings that I should be blacked out of the game.

What, the Orioles just invade again?

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 03:17 PM

Glavine gets a nice hand as Willie goes out with the hook.

Feliciano coming on.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 03:20 PM

Feliciano has been used alot lately.
Hopefully not too much.

He gives up a line drive single but its hit too hard for Markakis to score.
Then he gets a chopping grounder to Reyes and the run scores on the out.

Thats all for Feliciano- Bradford to bail him out.
And Castros homer looks pretty damn big right about now.

5-4 Mets

TheOldMole
Jun 18 2006 03:25 PM

Chadford does the job on Conine.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 18 2006 03:25 PM

Edgy DC
Jun 18 2006 03:25 PM

Bradford gets the first guy. He's been more than we had any right to expect, hasn't he?

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 03:26 PM

Huge strikeout as Bradford Ks Conine.

Come on Chad---get us outta this and keep Tommys chance to win in order.

sure has.

They showd some rediculous graphic that I cant quite quote.
22 of 23 runners inherited stranded for a 95.something %

AND MERRERO WITH A FANNNNNNNNNNNTASTIC CATCH SAVES THE DAY!

Elster88
Jun 18 2006 03:28 PM

Great running catch by Marrero in right. He took a slightly bad angle so he had to reach as far as he could a little back over his head while running towards center.

How many disgusting outfielders do we have on this team???

Edgy DC
Jun 18 2006 03:28 PM

Marrero has leather? ALL RIGHT!

Nymr83
Jun 18 2006 03:29 PM

Marrero with a catch that screams "give me schaefer points"

Rockin' Doc
Jun 18 2006 03:29 PM

Marrero saves the day with a great running grab of a Melvin Mora rocket.

Mets still lead 5-4.

Elster88 wrote:

HaHa--that was hit so hard there was little else he could do.
Im amazed he got his glove up there.
Damn--that catch is big, big, BIG.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 18 2006 03:34 PM

Nice catch by Marrero, but I agree with Elster that he made it tougher than it needed to be by taking a bad angle on Mora's shot. Still, it was a big play and he made it.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 03:35 PM

Reyes hits the ball so hard that Mora only option is to let it hit him.
That HAD to hurt.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 18 2006 03:36 PM

Reyes ricochets a rocket off the knee of Melvin Mora who was playing in at third. That's gonna leave a mark. That's why they call it the hot corner.

Okay team, let's bring him around.

Elster88
Jun 18 2006 03:36 PM

Though by disgusting, I actually meant good.

It's like saying "nasty outfielders".

Nymr83
Jun 18 2006 03:39 PM

Mora throws it away!
1st and 3rd for david wright!

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 03:40 PM

Beltran grounds to third-Mora looks Reyes back, rushes his throw and throws it away!
Ron Darling thinks his knocked knee was a factor.
Anyone who saw that--if it hit him in the knee I cant believe he's still in the game.

1st and 3rd, one out, and they will bring in a new pitcher to face Wright.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 18 2006 03:41 PM

Mora air mails his throw to first allowing Beltran to reach base on the error. Reyes moves up to third. Wright coming to the plate with one out and a chance to pad the lead.

Lots of speed on the bases. I'd like to see Beltran run and see what the Orioles do.

Rockin' Doc
Jun 18 2006 03:43 PM

Now that's something I don't recall seeing before. Wright singles on a sinking liner to left that short hops up the arm of the left fielder and goes down the back of his jersey.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 03:44 PM

Wright singles!

The ball went up and into left fielder Rogers shirt!
Holy crapoli- it went up his sleeve and out the back of his collar.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 03:45 PM

UNBELIEVABLE!
AMAZIN!
Mr Franco singles to left and all hell breaks loose as Beltran scores, Wright is thrown out and is ruled safe on interference by Tejada!

Rockin' Doc
Jun 18 2006 03:46 PM

Wow, another rare sight. Wright gets gunned down at the plate trying to score on a wild throw from the outfield, but Tejada is called for interfering with Wright rounding third so the run counts.

I love insurance runs anyway we can get them.

Zvon
Jun 18 2006 03:47 PM

Mr FRANCO STEALS 3RD!

This may be the wacyest inning of the year, and we have seen some wacky ones

Rockin' Doc
Jun 18 2006 03:50 PM

The fun just keeps coming. Castro singles through the hole on the right side scoring Franco.

Mets 8 Orioles 4.

I called that one. Why use Wagner when there won't be an off day for another week? Let Heilman get some work in a non-stress situation and, hopefully, be on the mound for the end of game celebration. He needed a confidence inning, and a chance to earn the cheers of the fans at Shea. I thought it was the right move.

Elster88
Jun 18 2006 07:42 PM

Nope. Let Heilman rest and put a back of the bullpen guy in.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 18 2006 10:01 PM

Fun game. Very hot.

Did the sensible thing after all and left I.J. at home where he watched it on TV with Mom and the A/C. My brother brought his 11 month old and she (and he) were gone after the slam. Too hot!

Eli Marerro's at-bat music is "Burning Heart" by Survivor.

Visited the KCs who did the right thing and had seats in the shade. Shade didn;t reach me till the 8th.

Giveaway Met visor was/is SWEET. Needed it too since I forgot to take a cap.

Dad was there and mentioned he & Mom (and my embryonic sister) were in Shea for its opening day in 64. I either never knew that or forgot. He said he bought the tixx a few weeks before the game at the park -- they let you in to walk around the seats and choose the ones you wanted.

When I bought the tixx for this game back in February, I waited in a 2+ hour line in the freezing cold, and a cop stopped me when I tried to go down into the seats afterward.

]Nope. Let Heilman rest and put a back of the bullpen guy in.

This is a perfectly sound choice to let a good pitcher who has been pitching poorly get a low-risk inning in which to get right.

Nymr83
Jun 18 2006 11:18 PM

i was ok with heilman pitching, he's been shaky for a few weeks now and getting him some work in a spot where he could just pitch without worrying about the scoreboard might have been a good idea.
i'd being lying if i said i felt uncomfortable bringing him into a 1-run game before today, but now i feel slightly more comfortable.

It's perfectly sound choice if and only if (iff) some of his high-risk innings over the next few days go to someone else to keep his arm healthy. Let's see if Willie does that.
