Wasn't that a Peterson/Billy Beane Moneyball-esque pick as well. Taking college pitchers over HSers because they'd be "more readily available" to play in the Majors

Granted our most famous player pitched for USC, but it should be a hit for the Peterson belief in College over HS

Data is not the plural of anecdote.

At least, I imagine Billy Beane (and he's hardly alone at this point in calling high school pitchers poor bets) would tell you something like that.

Beane's point was that those teams picking at or near the top of the draft were the ones who could least likely afford to take chances on those ever-popular HS studs - the ones who can make scouts drool but also had a much longer road in front of them. That they've also made it past what some have called the 'injury-prone' years (roughly 18-21) is at least theory if not quite gospel.
