Chinese tonight

You're in your favorite Chinese restaurant for dinner tonight.

Same thing we always get: boneless ribs, chicken & broccoli, some sort of fried rice, steamed dumplings, a thing of those little hard noodles, and fortune cookies. It's enough to feed the two of us for three days.

Singapore mei fun is common. The kids want sesame chicken. Mrs. Sharpie/Harris usually gets some kind of spicy tofu thingee.

I'm gonna get sesame chicken, won ton soup, and an egg roll. And maybe an order of fried won tons for the family to share.

I hardly ever go to a Chinese restaurant for dinner unless I'm going to some Chinatown place in which case I'm getting either soup dumplings or some kind of fancy fish dish. Sometimes I have a lunch special at a restaurnat and we get it delivered often.

Szechuan bean curd (not spicy) with brown rice. Yum!

Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen brown rice on a Chinese menu.

Like sharpie, we hardly ever eat at a Chinese restuarant -- last time was in Flushing, IIRC -- but get frequent deliveries.

We usually do takeout, too. I can only think of two "dining in" experiences in Chinese restaurants over the last few years: Last month I was in Philadelphia with my son and we had Chinese for lunch. And two years ago, weary of Italian food, we ate dinner at a small Chinese restaurant in Florence. (The Chinese woman working there didn't know any English, and I didn't know any Chinese, so I ended up ordering in Italian!)

I'm either beef & broccoli or shrimp w/ lobster sauce. Usually started off with Wonton Egg Drop Soup.

It's much more common in New York and the bigger cities, but you can find it in the better suburban Chinese restaurants. It's much tastier than white rice.

I must disagree. Brown rice is not tastier than white rice. Better for you, yes. Tastier, no.

I just ordered it. General Tso's chicken.

Hard shelled crabs Cantonese for me and prawns and string beans in garlic sauce (mild) for MMYF.

I suspect I probably eat less, and know less about, Chinese food than just about any other New Yorker around.

Because I'm allergic to nuts, I really avoided Chinese food for most of my life, until we started making it ourselves. We bought a wok and [u:a1f7c52b48]Chinese Cooking For Dummies[/u:a1f7c52b48], stopped by the Chinese grocery store, and everything changed. It's really a lot of fun; and we started ordering out -- as long as I can communicate the allergy to the folks taking my order, then I'm trusting that it's safe. The place by us knows us pretty well by now.

At least General Tso's chicken outranks Colonel Sanders' chicken.
