This I find more honest and less absurd than Vic's grasping at straws to find reasons why soccer is a bad sport. If you find it boring and don't like it fine, but you don't need to make up ridiculous shit just to bash the game and the people who enjoy it.

Wow. Did Vic strike a nerve, willets?

As his attorney, i can attest to the fact that (1) he did, in fact, say his opinion was based on his personal preferences, (2) he did say he found it boring, (3) he did NOT say he thought it was a BAD sport, he said he found it too arbitrary in its fundamental nature for his tastes, (4) he did NOT make up shit to bash the game, he made an observation about why he didn't like it, and (4) unlike you, willets, he didn't bash anybody personally.

So, on his behalf, i invite you to either take that kind of shit to your RLF or to go play the anus-style LaCrosse of which he spoke.

You're not a moron for feeling the way you do, you're a moron for making a stupid argument and sticking to even after all the holes in your argument are pointed out. And for logging in with your alternate handle to defend your argument (did you learn that trick from Paulie Cee?).

You and others here (Elster88, Rottblatt, holychicke, Jdickshot and Edgy) didn't point out holes in my argument. You simply CLAIMED there were holes, and then made analogies and counter-arguments to which i tried to respond. I think you all are wrong, and you all think i am wrong. And that's fine, by the way. We've all stated our cases, and tried to support them. But at least 1 other person here understood my point (thank you, CF, for being you... "so shines a good deed in a weary world"), so my logic isn't quite as bizarre as you maintain.

Look, i don't have a vested interest in attacking soccer. I couldn't care less, one way or the other. I simply voiced a view and tried to explain my reasons for it, in a thread precisely on this topic.

As a consequence, WP has called me "dishonest" "absurd" and a "moron" for making a "stupid argument" (Rottblatt called me an uncultured heathen but he put a :) after it, so thats ok), and Edgy has implied I have an unnatural obsession with asses.

WP persists in his attack, even going so far as to compare me with Paulie Cee, one of the most vile creatures to ever post on the old MOFO.

In my last post I used my other "user name" because that is how i'm registered on my home computer. I rarely use it because i rarely post from home, but when i saw WP's abusive post, i felt compelled to respond. Everybody here who is a long term poster (as WP is) knows that "Matt Murdock Esq" is my alternate handle (its identified as such in the official thread on that subject, as a matter of fact), so i was not attempting to hide my identity. I responded "in character", to try and lighten up the tone, even as i made it clear i didn't appreciate the attacks and wanted them to stop.

But they haven't.

SO EXCUSE ME, CPF ADMINISTRATORS, but why have WP's posts in this thread not been moved to the RLF by now? They are filled with ad hominem attacks and hurtful accusations against me, simply because i've stated a position about soccer.

Didn't you just impose a lifetime ban on an original CPF member who was behaving like this too often? Didn't WP participate in the banning process. Isn't WP one of the people in charge of moving such posts?

I am beginning to understand Bret's resentment of the hypocrisy around here.

getalife here, site admin, it's also in the who's who thread.

I don't see any reason to "yell" out to the CPF ADMINISTRATORS to advance
an agenda that Bret Sabermetric was screwed out of posting privleges. I've only
moved one thread I think and botched another another and lost it. I thought the
forum pulse was that people were against moving threads - or is that only when
it happens to them? I also only read about a third of what's posted here and
when I do I assure everyone it's not to censor or move shit or police the place
and most importantly the admins here are not joined at the fucking hip atop
Mount CPF.

I think it's HILARIOUS that Paulie still gets bandwidth here after all these years.

No thanks necessary Vic. You know how I get with debates like this.

Yeah, I don't want the policy to be to move things every time there's an ad hominem attack, because usually, grownups can get past that, swallow, move on, apolize, agree to disagree, drink, make love, forget, watch a few Met games, meet again on another topic.

It's when that process isn't occurring, and the attacks are disrupting, or maybe aren't yet but are clearly meant to, that I think a bump is necessary.

Now all that can come come out as an --- interestingly enough --- arbitrary policy. So, if someone's going to call out, "Hey that was ad hominahomina. Can we move that to where I can respond in kind?" I will.

But I don't want the bumping thing to substitute for the wonderful power of sensitive yet adult persons to settle things things themselves, which they usually do, given half a chance.

Vic, I apologize. Since you stated yourself an avowed hater of soccer I saw your posts in a soccer thread not as "light" but as deliberate trolling by mocking the sport. In this light I saw your statements of being personally attacked not unlike (ironically) the soccer player rolling on the field pretending to be wounded to get a foul call. From your most recent post I see this was not your intention and that I have in fact offended you so again I say sorry.

I do wish to point out that posting under alternate handles should be done cautiously and transparently. Your Matt Murdock post referred to things said to Vic Sage in the third person and appeared as if you were pretending to be someone else coming to your own defense. Since this is a tactic used by the type of people you yourself refer to as "vile creatures" I think you'll agree that it's something to be avoided to preserve forum harmony.

in Vic's defense he always writes "in character" with Matt Murdock, and i thought we all knew who he was so there wouldn't be any confusion
