soupcan Jun 29 2006 05:21 PM |
Delgado not playing tonight - injured rib cage.
Gwreck Jun 29 2006 05:25 PM |
I'd be tempted to put Chavez in left and Marerro in right, but given that today might be Lastings' last game in the majors for a while, guess he gets the start.
Gwreck Jun 29 2006 05:28 PM |
Reyes SS
soupcan Jun 29 2006 05:30 PM |
I thought maybe Willie might put Valentin at 3rd and Woody at 2B.
Johnny Dickshot Jun 29 2006 05:38 PM |
Well, that's not the strongest lineup WWSB ever trotted out there, even last year.
Nymr83 Jun 29 2006 06:08 PM |
Delgado, Floyd, Nady missing from the "regulars" but we've still got Wright, Beltran, a muchly improved Reyes, and the redhot Valentin... so this is still better than anything we threw out there last year.
Frayed Knot Jun 29 2006 06:32 PM |
8 times this year we've lost 2 straight - and so far we're 8-0 in that position.
SteveJRogers Jun 29 2006 06:43 PM |
Thats how it was formatted in the site I cut and pasted it from.
TransMonk Jun 29 2006 06:53 PM |
Already on page 2 before the game starts...good sign, I like it.

30 for 69 (.435), 5 HR. .512 OBP, .768 SLG. Nice.

But anyone have any numbers on how he does as a pinch hitter? His role tonight will be similar to that - four (hopefully six) times. I'd guess because he has been a regular since he joined the team, he probably doesn't have much more then 10 at bats, and that may have been in his first year. He may be one of those players who needs to play the field in order to get his juices flowing. Later

Jose was safe even without the throw being dropped.
Hillbilly Jun 29 2006 07:15 PM |
Live by speed die by speed. Reyes out on the SB attempt.
Zvon Jun 29 2006 07:15 PM |

Mets are turned away in the 1st.

Hillbilly Jun 29 2006 07:19 PM |
Let's hope Glavine isn't 'lost in the moment".
Zvon Jun 29 2006 07:26 PM |
Nice inning!
Zvon Jun 29 2006 07:32 PM |
Mets go 1-2-3 in the second, only Mr. Franco hitting a ball hard.

As is Mr. Floyd, in all liklihood.

Glavine pitches himself into a jam here.
mt8thsw9th Jun 29 2006 08:11 PM |
On the Red Sox, feed, Don Orsillo just said something pretty unintentionally funny. They're talking about Glavine's background, and his hockey prowess, and how he made the right choice picking baseball over hockey. They mention how he's a sure bet HOFer, and that at least with baseball, "he still has all his own teeth". Woops.
Zvon Jun 29 2006 08:17 PM |
HA! Gotta wear those teeth guards in taxis these days. Mr Franco doubles to right!

That homer was enormous, considering any other way it might take 2 hits to score D'ohLuca and his rolled ankle.
Hillbilly Jun 29 2006 08:49 PM |
Beltran is offically a big game player.
Nymr83 Jun 29 2006 09:08 PM |
sox tie it on 2-straight fly balls moving ortiz to 3rd and then home.
Zvon Jun 29 2006 09:11 PM |

tru- Did u see Pappi chuggin to 3rd?lol That was a big heads up play by the Sox. 2-2 after 6.
Gwreck Jun 29 2006 09:11 PM |
I had to miss that half-inning and was listening on the radio rather than watching. WFAN guys suggested that Beltran erred by allowing Manny to advance to 2nd on that play rather than keeping the double play in order.
Zvon Jun 29 2006 09:14 PM |
could have a point but Ortiz looked like he was running in slo-mo and i thought we had a decent chance to get him there. I doubt manny went untill he saw where the throw was going. ......Maybe Im giving too much credit to Manny. Chavez slaps a liner of the Mohnstah for a double.
Gwreck Jun 29 2006 09:19 PM |
It's been a while since the last Mets extra inning game. Sure smells like one is coming.

Milledge long ago stopped contributing anything...
Zvon Jun 29 2006 09:21 PM |

Lets rephrase that and say Milledge is "due". Coo Coo the Clown with a lead off bunt single. I dont like that a bit.
Johnny Dickshot Jun 29 2006 09:22 PM |
Get D'ohLuca out of there. He's killing us too.

Sox score playing textbook baseball.

Edgy DC Jun 29 2006 09:35 PM |
He contributed defensively to that run, but last time up he worked Schilling deep before looping a two-out single to right, setting upBeltran's homer. Besides that being our only runs, it's pretty much what he's in there being asked to do.
Johnny Dickshot Jun 29 2006 09:35 PM |
Jeez. D'ohLuca is a decent player and by all appearances, a hell of a guy, but one thing he's not is vital, at least not tonight. If he's banged up, Rastro is a perfectly viable replacement.
Edgy DC Jun 29 2006 09:36 PM |
But he flails and fails here.
Johnny Dickshot Jun 29 2006 09:36 PM |
Well it's not like Castro is incapable of a single in 4 turns.

I hear they are touring as the "New Cars" sans Rick O', and with Todd Rundgren takin his place. I love Todd but that sounds pretty stupid.
Zvon Jun 29 2006 10:07 PM |
The Mets made some mistakes tonight, didnt take advantage of some opportunities, but Ill have to say the whole game hinged on Coco's catch.

The perfect bunt by Crisp, and his perfect catch the next inning, were the difference. Remember that Boston was without him for nearly two months as he got hurt the first week of the season.
Edgy DC Jun 29 2006 10:32 PM |
The really optimistic view is that the Mets paused amidst their assault on all of baseball to undermine the Yankee cause.

Willets Point Jun 30 2006 12:35 AM |
My thoughts:
Edgy DC Jun 30 2006 09:13 AM |
I guess the good news is this is the hard-fought game they failed to give the Sox the first two games. They had the lead, but their bullpen, entering the game with the best ERA in the bigs, couldn't hold it. They went out there without Delgado, without Floyd, and without Nady.
Elster88 Jun 30 2006 09:17 AM |
Has Beltran hit a cutoff man even once this year?
Frayed Knot Jun 30 2006 09:31 AM |
"Next time I have a ticket to a Mets game and Glavine's pitching I'm giving it away. "
Willets Point Jun 30 2006 10:46 AM |
I meant that whenever I see a Mets game that Glavine starts the Mets lose, so if I were not in attendance maybe they'd win. Kind of silly karma thing I don't believe in but funny to joke about. On the other hand, your co-ace only being able to pitch 5 innings while allowing 5 hits, 3 walks, 2 runs, NO strikeouts and making a throwing error is a problem.

You know, ever since I've read this, I've been angry. It makes me want to call the Red Sox and file a complaint. Not only is it fucking obnoxious to do that, peanut allergies are deadly serious. If I was there, I would have not only called security, I would have been very, very tempted to press criminal charges against the little piece of crap and his family. I'm literally still shaking. Infuriating. Makes me want to kick the parents in the fucking teeth.
Willets Point Jun 30 2006 11:21 AM |
I thought about reporting them, but the Mets fans who were being hit by peanuts were just ignoring them so I figured it was their complaint to make not mine. I thought it was more obnoxious than harmful and mostly was put off by how irresponsible the parents were.

I'm thinking that not only do you have a peanut allergy but that you've possibly experienced the worst of it?
Willets Point Jun 30 2006 11:25 AM |
I should add that other Red Sox fans in the area were visibly disturbed by this family and I don't think they should reflect poorly on Red Sox fans in general. I think no one said anything because these people just seemed so crazy you wouldn't know what they'd do if provoked.

Els: >>>Has Beltran hit a cutoff man even once this year?<<<
Frayed Knot Jun 30 2006 02:14 PM |
One of the announcers opined that Reyes wasn't lined up properly - although the throw air-mailed him anyway so it may not have mattered. Just the fact that the heave is low enough to be possibly cut is what would have kept Manny on 1st. Turned out not to matter because Manny never scored that inning but even he was an astute enough runner to know he could go as soon as that ball left Beltran's hand with a too-high angle on it.
Elster88 Jun 30 2006 02:15 PM |
Maybe a better question would've been "Has Beltran thrown a ball all year that has been cutoff-able?" The answer is probably still no. I think I remember that comment about Reyes too, but even if Reyes had been in the right spot, that throw goes a mile over his head. Given his play this season, I bet he still throws that ball way over Reyes' head even if Reyes is lined up right (assuming he bothered looking at him in the first place).
KC Jun 30 2006 02:18 PM |
I'll be more tuned into it going forward for sure.
