IGT - NY Mets @ Boston Redsox - 6/29/06 Keep The Faith!

SteveJRogers
Jun 29 2006 03:17 PM

From Bon Jovi's album of the same name:

MOTHER, MOTHER TELL YOUR CHILDREN
THAT THEIR TIME HAS JUST BEGUN
I HAVE SUFFERED FOR MY ANGER
THERE ARE WARS THAT CAN'T BE WON
FATHER, FATHER PLEASE BELIEVE ME
I AM LAYING DOWN MY GUNS
I AM BROKEN LIKE AN ARROW
FORGIVE ME, FORGIVE YOUR WAYWARD SON
EVERYBODY NEEDS SOMEBODY TO LOVE (MOTHER, MOTHER)
EVERYBODY NEEDS SOMEBODY TO HATE (FATHER, FATHER)
EVERYBODY'S BITCHING 'CAUSE THEY CAN'T GET ENOUGH
AND IT'S HARD TO HOLD ON WHEN THERE'S NO ONE TO LEAN ON
CHORUS: FAITH: YOU KNOW YOU'RE GONNA LIVE THROUGH THE RAIN
LORD, YOU GOT TO KEEP THE FAITH
FAITH: DON'T YOU LET YOUR LOVE TURN TO HATE
RIGHT NOW WE GOT TO KEEP THE FAITH
KEEP THE FAITH, KEEP THE FAITH, KEEP THE FAITH
LORD, WE GOT TO KEEP THE FAITH
TELL ME BABY, WHEN I HURT YOU
DO YOU KEEP IT ALL INSIDE
DO YOU TELL ME ALL'S FORGIVEN
AND THEN HIDE BEHIND YOUR PRIDE
EVERYBODY NEEDS SOMEBODY TO LOVE (MOTHER, MOTHER)
EVERYBODY NEEDS SOMEBODY TO HATE (PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME)
EVERYBODY'S BLEEDING 'CAUSE THE TIMES ARE TOUGH
WELL IT'S HARD TO BE STRONG WHEN THERE'S NO ONE TO DREAM ON
CHORUS: FAITH: YOU KNOW YOU'RE GONNA LIVE THROUGH THE RAIN
LORD YOU GOT TO KEEP THE FAITH
NOW YOU KNOW IS NOT TOO LATE
OH, YOU GOT TO KEEP THE FAITH
FAITH: DON'T LET YOUR LOVE TURN TO HATE
RIGHT NOW WE GOT TO
KEEP THE FAITH, KEEP THE FAITH, KEEP THE FAITH
LORD WE GOT TO KEEP THE FAITH
WALKING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF SOCIETY'S LIES
I DON'T LIKE WHAT I SEE NO MORE, SOMETIMES I WISH THAT I WAS BLIND
SOMETIMES I WAIT FOREVER TO STAND OUT IN THE RAIN
SO NO ONE SEES ME CRYIN', TRYING TO WASH AWAY THE PAIN
(MOTHER, MOTHER) THERE'S THINGS I'VE DONE I CAN'T ERASE
EVERY NIGHT WE FALL FROM GRACE
IT'S HARD WITH THE WORLD IN YOUR FACE
TRYING TO HOLD ON, TRYING TO HOLD ON
CHORUS OUT

4. Manny Ramirez, LF
5. Mike Lowell, 3B

Are they the Chosen Team?

I'm off to Fenway. Thunderstorms predicted for tonight. I may end up soaked.

KC
Jun 29 2006 04:56 PM

Root 'em in Willet.

I've been thinking of one of those sausage and peppers subs they sell out-
side Fenway for three days now. Is Boston Beer Works still open?

why did someone post that assclown avatar for kc? i laugh everytime he posts now...

soupcan
Jun 29 2006 05:21 PM

Delgado not playing tonight - injured rib cage.

Chavez in left, Millege in right, Wright is the DH.

I'm guessing Woody at 3rd?

Yeesh.

Gwreck
Jun 29 2006 05:25 PM

I'd be tempted to put Chavez in left and Marerro in right, but given that today might be Lastings' last game in the majors for a while, guess he gets the start.

Woodward at third, yes. He and Valentin are the only potential backups there.

Gwreck
Jun 29 2006 05:28 PM

Reyes SS
LoDuca C
Beltran CF
Wright DH
Valentin 2B
Franco 1B
Chavez LF
Woodward 3B
Milledge RF

Only good thing is that Wright hits about .700 in the cleanup spot.

I thought maybe Willie might put Valentin at 3rd and Woody at 2B.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 29 2006 05:38 PM

Well, that's not the strongest lineup WWSB ever trotted out there, even last year.

Nymr83
Jun 29 2006 06:08 PM

Delgado, Floyd, Nady missing from the "regulars" but we've still got Wright, Beltran, a muchly improved Reyes, and the redhot Valentin... so this is still better than anything we threw out there last year.

Frayed Knot
Jun 29 2006 06:32 PM

8 times this year we've lost 2 straight - and so far we're 8-0 in that position.

Which means ....

absolutely nothing.

SteveJRogers

Thats how it was formatted in the site I cut and pasted it from.

As for the KC Assclown, ZVon found it and KC took it for his avatar over the weekend. I forget who it was in regards to, but someone was mentioning shooting an ass clown and Z made a back-to-back image thing of it

But anyone have any numbers on how he does as a pinch hitter? His role tonight will be similar to that - four (hopefully six) times. I'd guess because he has been a regular since he joined the team, he probably doesn't have much more then 10 at bats, and that may have been in his first year.
He may be one of those players who needs to play the field in order to get his juices flowing.

HaHaHa..Great opening post to the IGT Mr. Rogers.
We gotta change it up a lil bit and shake up this team.

Get it started Jose!

Hillbilly

Reyes on. Speed kills.

Gwreck

Jose was safe even without the throw being dropped.

Hillbilly
Jun 29 2006 07:15 PM

Live by speed die by speed. Reyes out on the SB attempt.

Zvon
Jun 29 2006 07:15 PM

Whew--we got the call there.

Shilling picks off Reyes and we get the safe call.
And Reyes jams his fingers.

LoDuke pops out and Shills holding Reyes on gets dividends as Reyes tries to steal second and is thrown out by a healthy margin.

Zvon
Jun 29 2006 07:17 PM

Mets are turned away in the 1st.

Lets see what Glavine has today.
We could use his A game out there tonight.

Boston to bat.

:)

Zvon
Jun 29 2006 07:32 PM

Mets go 1-2-3 in the second, only Mr. Franco hitting a ball hard.
Wright and Valentin on easy pop ups.
Looks like Wrights trying to force out some hairs on his chin.

Hillbilly

Expected back against the Yanks.

Zvon
Jun 29 2006 07:41 PM

Another nice inning by Tommy.

Varitek batting lefty vs. Glavine.
I see the logic here but I think this works better for us.
At least it does when Glavine is hitting his spots.

0-0 after 2 and a half.

Zvon
Jun 29 2006 07:44 PM

BEAUTIFUL bunt by Chavez but Lowell pounces on it like a pooper scooper.
Makes the play.

And Manny gives Milledge a lil lesson on how to play the Mohnstah as he holds Woody to a single on a drive off the wall.

Jun 29 2006 07:56 PM

A smooth 3rd.

No score after 3.

I have a question for any veteran member here.
I was here last season and I know you had the IGT here, but how many seasons has it been conducted here?
I ask cuz now I see all these sport web sites have game "glogs".

Gwreck
Jun 29 2006 08:06 PM

7,066 and counting.

Sigh.

Zvon
Jun 29 2006 08:11 PM

Glavine pitches himself into a jam here.
Two hits and a walk.
Bases loaded, 2 out, and Veritek will bat lefty again.

And he gets out of it by getting Veritek to fly out to left!
Whew.

On the Red Sox, feed, Don Orsillo just said something pretty unintentionally funny. They're talking about Glavine's background, and his hockey prowess, and how he made the right choice picking baseball over hockey. They mention how he's a sure bet HOFer, and that at least with baseball, "he still has all his own teeth". Woops.

I had to miss that half-inning and was listening on the radio rather than watching.

WFAN guys suggested that Beltran erred by allowing Manny to advance to 2nd on that play rather than keeping the double play in order.

could have a point but Ortiz looked like he was running in slo-mo and i thought we had a decent chance to get him there.

He contributed defensively to that run, but last time up he worked Schilling deep before looping a two-out single to right, setting upBeltran's homer. Besides that being our only runs, it's pretty much what he's in there being asked to do.

Johnny Dickshot
Jun 29 2006 09:35 PM

The perfect bunt by Crisp, and his perfect catch the next inning, were the difference. Remember that Boston was without him for nearly two months as he got hurt the first week of the season.

The optimistic was to look at it this is if we were bound to split these 6 games at least we lost the "correct" 3.
Of course we still need to sweep this weekend in order to have the split ... but that's a minor detail.

In all, our "rep" - and in part that of the Nat'l League - took a bigger hit this week than our lead in the division did.

The really optimistic view is that the Mets paused amidst their assault on all of baseball to undermine the Yankee cause.

Let us agree. No Bon Jovi in all caps during the Yankee series.

Willets Point
Jun 30 2006 12:35 AM

My thoughts:

- Never, never again put a Bon Jovi song in an IGT
- Willets + Glavine = suck. Next time I have a ticket to a Mets game and Glavine's pitching I'm giving it away.
- So I mentioned after last game that I'd rather sit behind a steel beam than the aisle full of ADD fans. So this game my seat was directly behind a steel beam. A kind Red Sox fan at the end of the row said she had an extra seat because her husband couldn't make it and let me sit there and thus I ended up with a GREAT seat behind home plate to the first base side.
- It was Connecticut Night at Fenway Park. Appropos to my CT childhood.
- Low point of the game: bratty teenage boy in front of me starts chanting "Mets Suck" and throwing peanuts at Mets fans. Just when I think his parents are going to intervene they start chanting and throwing peanuts too!!!!. This was the most classless family I've ever encountered.
- Based on the number of replica jerseys/t-shirts the fan favorites for the Red Sox are Crisp, Papelbon and Ortiz and for the Mets, Wright (by a wide margin), Martinez, and Seaver.
- I'm glad this series is over so now I can go back to actually feeling happy when Papi hits a sweet homerun.
- Despite the Mets loss and Glavine crapping the bed in the 6th, it was a privilege to see two great pitchers of our generation duel it out in a well-played game. Two great defensive plays by the Sox, baserunning blunders by the Mets, and Beltran throwing to 3rd instead of 2nd are the difference in this game.

Edgy DC
Jun 30 2006 09:13 AM

I guess the good news is this is the hard-fought game they failed to give the Sox the first two games. They had the lead, but their bullpen, entering the game with the best ERA in the bigs, couldn't hold it. They went out there without Delgado, without Floyd, and without Nady.

But, as Art Howe would say, they battled.

I guess I'm concerned that they're waiting on the homers and not setting the tables that set those homers up. Seven walks in the series, and two walks the last two games.

Yeah, he was the problem.

I meant that whenever I see a Mets game that Glavine starts the Mets lose, so if I were not in attendance maybe they'd win. Kind of silly karma thing I don't believe in but funny to joke about.

On the other hand, your co-ace only being able to pitch 5 innings while allowing 5 hits, 3 walks, 2 runs, NO strikeouts and making a throwing error is a problem.

You know, ever since I've read this, I've been angry. It makes me want to call the Red Sox and file a complaint. Not only is it fucking obnoxious to do that, peanut allergies are deadly serious. If I was there, I would have not only called security, I would have been very, very tempted to press criminal charges against the little piece of crap and his family.

I'm literally still shaking. Infuriating. Makes me want to kick the parents in the fucking teeth.

I thought about reporting them, but the Mets fans who were being hit by peanuts were just ignoring them so I figured it was their complaint to make not mine. I thought it was more obnoxious than harmful and mostly was put off by how irresponsible the parents were.

I'm thinking that not only do you have a peanut allergy but that you've possibly experienced the worst of it?

I should add that other Red Sox fans in the area were visibly disturbed by this family and I don't think they should reflect poorly on Red Sox fans in general. I think no one said anything because these people just seemed so crazy you wouldn't know what they'd do if provoked.

Thankfully, I haven't died yet. But I've had reactions, yes. And it's not fun.

I misunderstood. I thought they were tossing Jack Russell terrirers.

I guess I meant 'almost the worst'.

Yeah really. Isn't that like me naming my dog 'Razor Blade Sandwich'?

Looks like you got the allergy under control by being very careful. Good news

Now you might want to concentrate on those anger management classes.

Els: >>>Has Beltran hit a cutoff man even once this year?<<<

I haven't kept a tally of Beltrans throws, but didn't the announcers opine that
there was no cutoff man on his throw to third and that's why Manny advanced?
I think Reyes was the culprit.

Also, and I'm picking nits, I hate when people make it sound like the cutoff
man should be hit. He should be thrown through and it's his decision or the
guy yelling at him to "cut it" 's decision whether to catch the ball.

I'm having a MetMaven/ChiefUmpire flashback for some reason.

One of the announcers opined that Reyes wasn't lined up properly - although the throw air-mailed him anyway so it may not have mattered. Just the fact that the heave is low enough to be possibly cut is what would have kept Manny on 1st. Turned out not to matter because Manny never scored that inning but even he was an astute enough runner to know he could go as soon as that ball left Beltran's hand with a too-high angle on it.

Nice running all around by Papi btw. I wasn't so sure he was going to get to 2nd on his hit much less to 3rd on the fly. The one that got him home was more of a gimme.

Maybe a better question would've been "Has Beltran thrown a ball all year that has been cutoff-able?" The answer is probably still no. I think I remember that comment about Reyes too, but even if Reyes had been in the right spot, that throw goes a mile over his head. Given his play this season, I bet he still throws that ball way over Reyes' head even if Reyes is lined up right (assuming he bothered looking at him in the first place).

Actually I was less bothered by that play yesterday because Beltran had a good shot at throwing out Ortiz. But I feel like all year he's been throwing balls that can't be cut. Not sure if it's only me.

I'll be more tuned into it going forward for sure.
