Opening Day for the Cyclones

I made my annual pilgrimage to Coney for last night's Cyclones home opener against the SI Yanks.

The Baby Bombers were up 14-0 by the 3rd.
I shit you not.

So when, after 2.5 hours, there was an extended delay because of an umpire's injury at the top of the 5TH INNING, i went home.

'Clones ended up losing 18-zip.
An inauspicious debut, to say the least.

By the way, they have an infielder named "Junior Contreras" who is listed at 6'-5"/265 lb. If that's Junior, i'd hate to meet Senior Contreras in a dark alley.

Does this mean that the 2010 Mets are going to suck? Let's start panicking now!

I saw on the sports news that opening day first pitch set a record for longest pitch, a 32 inch baseball that started out at Brooklyn City Hall made a 25 mile trek through Brooklyn and was delievered by the Cyclone mascot.....Vic did you see that bit of history?

How is that a long "pitch"?

Pretty loose definition, I'd say.

Seemed like the right (only) thread to bump:

Mets minor leaguer suspended for 50 games
NEW YORK (AP) — Mets minor league pitcher Timothy Haines was suspended for 50 games Thursday for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, Major League Baseball announced.
Haines was New York's 27th-round pick in this year's draft out of University of Texas-Pan American. The right-hander was 2-0 with a 3.09 ERA and three saves in 10 games with Single-A Brooklyn.
