Actually if he posts tomorrow this wouldn't end til Tuesday which is the only day I can be assured of having computer access.

That's it. I'm nominating 'Til Tuesday.

I really think it matters little as Bob & The Wailers should win this one easy.

sharpie
Jun 29 2006 02:30 PM

I wouldn't be too sure of that, Irish. Wailers have beaten puzzlingly popular BLCer Queen (plus the Guess Who and Nick Cave). Without seeing Rotblatt's list, I could make up one that would crush the Wailers on the sharpie ballot but just as easily the Wailers could win if the matchups were different (again, on the sharpie ballot only. I know that VU makes some CPFers ears bleed).

No worries, sharpie. I've got your back!

Bob & the Whiners, I hope you're all good and high--it will make this trouncing hurt a little less.

Interesting Fact: Bob Marley's dad was a British-born Marine officer and plantation overseer when he married Marley's mother, a teenaged Jamaican 31 years his junior. He grew up mixed race in a racially tense era in Jamaica in the sixties, reflecting "I don't have prejudice against myself. My father was a white and my mother was black. Them call me half-caste or whatever. Me don't dip on nobody's side. Me don't dip on the black man's side nor the white man's side. Me dip on God's side, the one who create me and cause me to come from black and white."
Interesting Fact: Early show-biz jobs for Lou Reed supposedly included house songwriter for the Woolworth label, as well as stock photo subject for National Enquirer photos.

I think soupcan needs to recuse himself as he and VU had the same artist paint their avatars.

Bob Marley and the Wailers: 4

Only one I really had to think about was Sheriff vs. Heroin. The others, for me, featured strong Wailers songs vs. weak VU songs or vice versa.

"Redemption Song" vs. "Jesus"

Best unintenionally appropriate matchup.

Willets Point

I think some of these were intentional:

"One Love/People Get Ready" vs. "White Light/White Heat " is the battle of the slashed song titles. "I Shot The Sheriff" vs. "Heroin " gives a new meaning to what the Sheriff was shot with.

Also waiting in vain vs. waiting for the man

Exactly! They were all intentional. I couldn't find any of my old lineups, so I just went with what seemed to match up thematically with the BM&W lineup. Although of course I was only picking songs I thought had a chance of winning.

I think this actually might be the first time I've taked Jesus down from his cross and trotted him out there . . .

Jammin' v. Rock n' Roll = Regee v. Rock. "Get Up Stand Up" so you can be "Set Free" and I thought "No Woman" and "Femme Fatale" had a little somethin' somethin' too.

Buffalo Soldier v. Sweet Jane is probably the weakest but at least they've both got an adjective & a noun in there. Now that I think about it, I should have done (Full Length Version) to match up the parentheticals . . .

Actually, CYBL & Pale Blue Eyes is probably the weakest.

Not perfect, but hey, I gave it a shot!
