I figured it was probably not in anyone's best interests to YouTube "Big Balls."

Seeing as "Creep" is one of the Ten Greatest Songs Of All Time, I totally wussed out with "Whole Lotta Rosie." That one goes to Radiohead, but the rest go to the Aussies.

9-1 AC/DC.

Interesting Fact: Lead guitarist Jonny Greenwood is currently the BBC's Composer in Residence, a multi-instrumentalist, and the only classically trained member of the band, playing (aside from the guitar) such instruments as the banjo, viola, harmonica, and the Ondes Martenot (an early electronic instrument, dating to the twenties, most notable for producing the wavering female vocal sounds in the Star Trek TV theme."
Interesting Fact: In recent years AC/DC singer Brian Johnson has been workshopping an operatic musical based on Helen of Troy. I think it's called Helen of Troy."

This should be closed but only two people voted.

I win!

We should go with a minimum six votes. I forgot this one was down there, even after formatting it nicely and such.

I've been meaning to ask for a while and have half-heartedly been looking for a thread on the rules, but how do you play this game?

Can I vote on matchups without nominating bands?
How do I nominate bands?
How much work is involved?

Thanks.

]Can I vote on matchups without nominating bands?

Yup.

]How do I nominate bands?

You say, "I nominate [Sonic YOuth/The Tubes/The Buggles/The Teardrop Explotes/Pavement/The Blake Babies//The Seeds/Whoever] and I challenge Lynyrd Skynyrd" and list ten whoop-ass titles from this band. Only bands billed as bands are allowed. You can nominate Booker T and the MGs for instance, but you'd only get to list tracks billed under their name, and not their backing work for Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, or Janis Joplin. Tracks in which they share the billing (Stevie Nicks with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) appear to be tolerated by the rules, but not indulged much by the voters.

]How much work is involved?

Not much. You endear yourself somewhat to the voters if you remind them of a band's supremacy by posting links to the songs you endorse. Also accept that lesser known bands may get lesser support, but arguing their case is worth it anyway. Once you nominate a band, you take turns challenging up with your nominee as well as nominating new bands, so it's no more work for three weeks or so.

AC/DC 6, Radiohead 4

I know I'm supposed to like Radiohead, and I prolly would had I gave 'em a better shot, but I don;t feel like I owe it to them. I saw 'em open for REM back in 95. That was prolly the best shot they had to hook me but as I recall it they gave a pretty nondistinct effort, lots of noise and fuzz and little charisma.

Edgy said to wait for 6 votes, which seems reasonable for all contests. At 6 votes it was 32-28 Radiohead. With mine it was 38-32 Radiohead. I think they win.

Yeah, Elster, some of these things have been ugly lately.
