What was your academic major in school?
What do you do now?
Does what you studied (in that major) have anything to do with the primary requirements for that current job?
(Doctors need not answer, unless they had a weird undergrad major)

Just curious.

What was your academic major in school?
- History & English, minor in Anthropology
What do you do now?
- Librarian
Does what you studied (in that major) have anything to do with the primary requirements for that current job?
- Yep. My studies taught me perspective, understanding people, and the role of research, all useful as a librarian. I'd like to one day work in a humanities library or archives to more directly apply my knowledge.

Major: History
Current occupation: Business Consultant
Does it help: I think so, from the standpoint of being able to write - putting technical subjects in terms business people can easily understand.

Many Colleges don't require engineering/ technology students to take more than introductory Humanities (English, History, Literature) courses. Some of them fear having to write, whether it be proposals, project deliverables or training materials. This can put them at a disadvantage as they try to progress through the ranks.

Does what you studied (in that major) have anything to do with the primary requirements for that current job? Yes - Psych teaches a person to think outside the box, and that is always a helpful skill.

Major (undergrad): Social Sciences (Political Science/History dual major, not Social Science, which is something else).
Major (grad): English (Writing concentration)

Current occupation: Computer User Services/Educational Technologist
Current avocation: Science Fiction Writer

Did it help? Indirectly: it helped me learn how to analyze, and the writing was very useful.

I know that I was told that I don't need to respond in this thread, but I don't like to be left out. With all the English majors and writers in the CPF, it's no wonder I often feel semi-literate when I'm posting here.

What was your academic major in school? - Chemistry and biology double major.

What do you do now? - Optometrist.

Does what you studied (in that major) have anything to do with the primary requirements for that current job? - Though all the Anatomy and Physiology can be quite handy, most of my undergraduate courses don't come into play much in my day to day work.

What was your academic major in school? Communications/Journalism, with a math minor
What do you do now? Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions
Does what you studied (in that major) have anything to do with the primary requirements for that current job? Almost completely no. For me, it was more about what I did outside the classroom (Student Activities, our college radio station, and Greek life) more than anything else. That's why I got my Master's degree in College Student Counseling.
