closing time

Closing time - time for you to go out, go out into the world.
Closing time - turn the lights up over every boy and every girl.
Closing time - one last call for alcohol, so finish your whiskey or beer.
Closing time - you don't have to go home but you can't stay here.

our days of apartment-life (three and a half years for me, one less for the wife) are drawing to a merciful close. on friday, we take possession of our beautiful house, a 45-yr old ranch with walkout basement in sunny Lake Mohawk, NJ! its a private community in tranquil sussex county, surrounding Lake Mohawk, and encompassing two other small lakes, the three of which we'll have exclusive access to. B-)

also included in the community is a sweet country club. we're totally movin' on up to the east side here! well, we're up on the north-west side of the lake, but you get the idea.

as soon as we leave the lawyers office on friday, we hit the store and pick up a grill, thereby ending our long drought of cooking with fire. um, and perhaps some pool cues and balls to use with our nice, included pool table.

totally can't wait. we're going to be so poor, so soon!

Great news. If Genevive Gorder comes by to decorate, let me know first so I can stalk her, kidnap her, and secretly marry her.

Congrats!

Have you always lived in an apartment instead of a private house?
Don't have much money?
Don't know what tools you're going to need to maintain it?

Here's a hint:
Use the $5 tool rule.
Go to a flea market and buy a bunch of tools. Hammers, nails, saws, wrenches, etc.
Don't spend more than $5 for any one (non-power) tool.
If you end up not ever needing it , you were only out $5.
If you find out that you use it a lot, then invest in a real good one.

Nice work!

I've learned since owning a house that anything you plan on doing to it costs at least $500... or at least $5000. There is nothing in between.

But it's a lot of fun anyway. Good luck, and enjoy it!

Good running out there? Or does this mean you switch to golf?

good running. quiet roads, lots of hills. have yet to run them tho...

also, on a side note, there was a bear in the back yard today. black bear. popped in while we were grilling up some cheeseburgers. the wifey scared the crap out of me with an "oh my god!" and i startled myself with seeing the bear. he was maybe 40' away, and closer to the grill.

but i guess he wasn't too hungry, or maybe he doesnt care for monterrey jack on his burgers, and he wandered off into the neighbor's backyard, and kept on going as if he's pretty cool with being around people who aren't yet so cool with being around bears.

i'm not sure how i'm going to deal, eventually, with seeing one of 'em whilst running...

later tonight, a pair of fawns occupied nearly the same patch of grass. they stared at me as a closed up the grill for hte night, played a bit, and scampered away when i started to pull the grill cover back on.

ah, nature

fawns - kinda cool to see. bears, a little more intimidating.

Bears are cool but Deer are a menace, they destroy anything you try to plant. soon you'll be calling those guys to who advertise on the radio for their electronic anti-deer equipment (or you can shoot 'em)

So were drinking and were dancing
And the band is really happening
And the johnny walker wisdom running high
And my very sweet companion
Shes the angel of compassion
And shes rubbing half the world against her thigh
Every drinker every dancer
Lifts a happy face to thank her
And the fiddler fiddles something so sublime
All the women tear their blouses off
The men they dance on the polka-dots
And its partner found and partner lost
And its hell to pay when the fiddler stops
Its closing time

Were lonely, were romantic
And the ciders laced with acid
And the holy spirits crying, wheres the beef?
And the moon is swimming naked
And the summer night is fragrant
With a mighty expectation of relief
So we struggle and we stagger
Down the snakes and up the ladder
To the tower where the blessed hours chime
And I swear it happened just like this
A sigh, a cry, a hungry kiss
The gates of love they budged an inch
I cant say much has happened since
But closing time

I loved you for your beauty
But that doesnt make a fool of me
You were in it for your beauty too
I loved you for your body
Theres a voice that sounds like God to me
Declaring that your bodys really you
I loved you when our love was blessed
And I love you now theres nothing left
But sorrow and a sense of overtime
And I miss you since the place got wrecked
By the winds of change and the weeds of sex
Looks like freedom but it feels like death
It something in betwen, I guess
Its closing time

Were drinking and were dancing
But theres nothing really happening
The place is dead as heaven on a saturday night
And my very close companion
Gets me fumbling gets me laughing
Shes a hundred but shes wearing
Something tight
I lift my glass to the awful truth
Which you cant reveal to the ears of youth
Except to say it isnt worth a dime
And the whole dam place goes crazy twice
And its once for the dvil and its once for christ
But the boss dont like these dizzy heights
Were busted in the blinding lights
Of closing time

Well, maybe you can get the bears to start eating the deer... problem solved.

Methead - "Well, maybe you can get the bears to start eating the deer... problem solved."

That may be a little closer to nature than Mrs. Marathon would like.

I have a good friend (one of my hunting buddies actually) that has a small herd of deer that frequent his backyard. He considers this small herd to be his pets, but the deer use to eat all his wife's flowers. He decided to build a small platform at the edge of the woods behind his home. He fills it with corn every few days. That way the deer continue to come out at dusk, so he and his wife can enjoy watching. In turn, the deer leave the flowers and plants in the yard alone. Some people have bird feeders, they have a deer feeder. Everyone (deer and homeowners) seem happy with the arrangement.
