Professional Hitter down on strikes.

Jul 06 2006 07:51 PM

Mets score 2 in the 2nd.

Wright doubles, Nady walks, Floyd doubles.

Why does Willie have a woody for Woody? It seems like he starts everyday.

Reyes is amazingly fun to watch on the basepaths.

TransMonk
Jul 06 2006 08:21 PM

Mets add another run in the 3rd without a hit.

3-0 good guys.

Transmonk I can't let you go this alone...yeah Reyes is a blast on the basepaths.....where the hell is everyone, do these people have a life or what?

TransMonk
Jul 06 2006 08:27 PM

Folks start rolling in about the 6th inning or so. The beginnings of games have been slow for the IGTs lately.

Floyd gets hit again....poor guy...looks hurt.

TransMonk
Jul 06 2006 08:29 PM

Cliff drilled hard in the wrist by a fastball.

That hurt...I could hear him yelling al the way in Wisconsin.

TransMonk
Jul 06 2006 08:31 PM

Cliff may be having a rough offensive season, but he deserves a Purple Heart for the abuse he's taken.

Looks to be okay.

Jul 06 2006 08:35 PM

It's why the fans love Cliff, what a gamer he is...

Jul 06 2006 08:37 PM

Reyes with a two run single...5 zip.....

TransMonk
Jul 06 2006 08:43 PM

I know he wasn't nominated in the most pleasant surprise thread, but Jose Reyes looks better to me everyday.

I almost want to change my vote.

Jul 06 2006 08:48 PM

Did you see after they came back from a TV break Howie pointed out how Floud nealy got hit by a relay throw to first....unreal...if he hadn't ducked he would have got clobbered in the head.....

TransMonk
Jul 06 2006 08:54 PM

Poor Cliff.

Speaking of poor, the wheels are falling off for Trachsel.

90 pitches and struggling in the 5th.

metirish
Jul 06 2006 09:01 PM

Wright with a huge jack......

TransMonk
Jul 06 2006 09:01 PM

David Wright goes KABOOM!

7-2 Mets.

SI Metman
Jul 06 2006 09:03 PM

Mets going with the retro booth. Ron and Keith switched between Radio and TV in the middle of the 5th.

TransMonk
Jul 06 2006 09:15 PM

Do we see Trachsel go another with 109 pitches?

We should with Lima/Maine/Pelfrey and the AS break coming up.

TransMonk
Jul 06 2006 09:16 PM

Yup...and he gets plunked leading off the 6th.

PTA Post-Prom Committee meeting. Not a life, but an obligation.

Nice to come home to a 7-2 lead. I heard Mr. Wright's homer in the car ride home. I love that boy :)

You should have seen it SK, it was a vintage Piazza home run the other way....

Jul 06 2006 09:26 PM

I wish Keith would stop going on about how the game today is sooooo different than when he played......very Seaver like that is.

Those of you actually watching the game, please help a guy out. Who's throwing in the Mets pen? Someone has to be throwing in the pen. Barring a miracle, I don't see Trachsel surviving the 6th.

Hey! Aaron Heilman! Maybe Willie wants to get Wagner into a save situation tonight.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 06 2006 09:35 PM

Trachsel strikes out Jason Bay for the first out, then Willie pulls him. Good outing by Trachsel.

It's in the hands of the bullpen now. Come on Heilman.

It might have been a nice time to audition Mr. Owens.

In case nobody has noticed, ever since they traded him away (after having him for one off season week) Joe Randa has been an absolute pain in the ERA to the Mets.

Later

Jul 06 2006 09:38 PM

Howie said Owens just got to the park....

Rockin' Doc
Jul 06 2006 09:38 PM

Best to save his audition for the start of an inning. Men at first and second with one out is a little tougher time to make the leap from Binghamton to Shea.

Nice job by Heilman.

Wagner in for save #301, thanks to Heilman.

Well we know one thing from this game ...Marreo should not be playing CF.

The suckiness of the save was more the fault of Marrero than Wagner.

Frayed Knot
Jul 06 2006 10:22 PM

Don't knock any knid of save - particularly as Wags gave up only a measly single and an UNearned run on his own.
Cuz at the same moment that he was nailing down our 3 (then 2) run lead, Atlanta was in the midst of blowing a 5 run 9th inning lead to the Reds, the last 3 courtesy of Jose V's baby brother's 1-out PH 3R HR. That was Atlanta's league-leading 18th blown save of the year.

7-7 heading for the bottom of the 9th - despite the Braves getting a (not all that common lately) good game from Tim Hudson.

(knock on wood)4-0 at Shea this year!{/knock on wood)

I was the special guest of CPF visitor and occasional contributor Gfafif tonight: I hope to be a character in a better writeup than I can muster now tomorrow.

The Top 500 and the nature of baseball on the internet was deconstructed, we had a visit from the late lamented Bret Sabermetric, and I realized on the train home that it was 10 All-Star Breaks ago (Philadelphia) that began spectacular and unexpected events leading to my fleeing the hinterlands, moving to New York and re-connecting with the Mets.

It was also decided that we'd had enough of Aaron Heilman surrendering a run an inning over his recent performances. But that Jose Reyes & D Wright are something else, and Cliff Floyd is a truly a Met.

They played that song last nite at Shea, though it was long before Wilson came to hit.

Let's make a mental note here: The Mets beat up on a rookie starter the first time they faced him. Let's not forget that the next time a rookie starter shuts them down.

I think the use of the term "thrashing" is in order.

The Pirates pitcher is also joing the All-Mouthful All-Stars squad. So far it looks like this:

1B Mientkiewicz
2B Grudzielanek
P Gorzelanny

All playing for desperate teams this year --- teams that can ill afford all those letters for their jerseys.

Who would have thought Trax would have the second most wins on the team at this stage of the season.

Centerfield
Jul 07 2006 04:04 PM

It's not that far-fetched. At the outset, there were only two candidates you would have slotted in ahead of Trachs.
