I love watching Willis pitch, his SO pitch to Wright was a jem.

It's never the right time for Lima time.

Lima is looking very hiitable tonight....

Willie calls for Lima to bunt with 1 out. A Reyes hit scores two (hopefully).

Scratch that -- IBB Reyes. Even the fish know Woody can't hit this year.

TransMonk
Jul 07 2006 07:51 PM

This lineup sucks. This is a 2005 lineup. Franco, Woody, Marrero and Castro against one of the top pitchers in the league. Oh, and Lima's pitching. I feel dirty.

Two straight innings that the Mets get the leadoff batter to 2nd with no outs but can't score a run.

metirish
Jul 07 2006 08:09 PM

2 zip Marlins, bases loaded with no outs.......this could get ugly.

TransMonk

3-0 and counting.

Willis with a grand slam...WOW

TransMonk

7-0 and counting.

Grand slam by Willis.

Just retire Lima.

Nymr83

Willis hits a grand slam.
Lima is getting rocked (again) while Aaron Heilman wastes away in the bullpen.

The hell with 2005, this is the 2003-2004 lineup! This is Danny Garcia: 2nd baseman bad, this is Ty Wiggington at 3rd bad.

Well, at least I'm not going back to Kelly Stinnett, regular catcher!

Jose Lima, you are a truely pathetic excuse for a one time 20 game winner.

You ARE the weakest link! GOODBYE!

KC
Jul 07 2006 08:21 PM

You looked younger in your other pictures.

I missed the debacle, but please make Lima go away NOW!!! Jeez, last
thing we need is to be using a whole lot of pen with the double-header and
a green bean on the mound tomorrow to boot.

Jul 07 2006 08:23 PM

Trade Milledge for Dontrelle Willis NOW!!!!!!

TransMonk
Jul 07 2006 08:30 PM

Is anyone else here worried about the Marlins?

They are the only team left in the East that has a higher amount of games against us than games they are trailing in the standings...and they have been playing as good if not better ball than us over the past 6 weeks.

It just seems to me that Willie and the gang may be taking this series a little lightly.

KC
Jul 07 2006 08:36 PM

I'm worried, where's that thread?

Hard to tell how a manager or a team is "taking" things like a series though
in my opinion.

Starting pitchers are Lima, Maine and Pelfrey...he sits Delgado, Floyd, Valentin and LoDuca againt Willis...I doubt if any of them will play 2 tomorrow...making errors on routine plays.

I know some of these are situational, but I would imagine if asked the response would be something like, "having a 12.5 game lead allows us to get our guys some rest."

Amezaga is not amezzing in center.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 07 2006 08:47 PM

Still early in this one.

Ralph compares David Wright's hitting to DiMaggio's.

Nady clubs his second double of the night.

1st and 3rd, 2 out for Castro. Do they walk him?

No?

KC
Jul 07 2006 08:49 PM

I'll give ya Lima TM, other than that most of the other stuff mostly ok from a
managing standpoint ... unless you hate Willie.

Edgy DC
Jul 07 2006 08:52 PM

Bye Ralph.

Dontrelle must be maddening. All that movement and then his arms are so fast, I suspect they really don't pick up the ball in his hand at all. By the time they do, it's released.

TransMonk
Jul 07 2006 08:53 PM

I don't...no agenda.

I'm not someone who thinks about how bad it can get and then roots for it to happen just to be right.

Putting up 3 in the 5th helps.

seawolf17
Jul 07 2006 08:59 PM

Jose... STOP SLIDING INTO FIRST BASE. Dammit.

I still feel cheated. This would have been a perfect game to give the fans a glimpse of Henry Owens.

After the Mets scored three, I thought Willie might think the score was too close to bring in a rookie. I wasn't watching on tv. I didn't know he was warming up.

Just plain unacceptable.

It's not hindsight when everybody SAID that Oliver should start and Lima should be in the 'pen.

Not pinch-hitting for Oliver when he was leading off an inning was maddening.

Letting Franco hit, even with 2 outs and nobody on in the 9th, was maddening.

Jose Reyes sliding into first, was maddening.

Got the distinct feeling that Willie wasn't playing to win and the team wasn't playing hard tonight.

Rockin' Doc

Sending Lima to the mound is essentially the same as waiving a white flag in my mind.

Re: mailing it in

"Starting pitchers are Lima, Maine and Pelfrey..."

Not a lot of mystery here, it's is a function of having 3 starters on the DL plus a DH.

"he sits Delgado, Floyd, Valentin and LoDuca againt Willis"

With 3 games sked inside 25 hours he's sitting the lefty batters against a tough LHP -- and Castro had some good numbers vs Dontrelle.

'Taking things lightly' wasn't the problem.
The problems were:
- Lima sucking ... but also getting some unlucky hits and ZERO help from his 'D' all at the same time
- Very UNtimely hitting on our part: Castro whacks the ball the only time he's up withOUT runners on, same for Woodward; 1st & 2nd/none out in both 1st & 2nd innings and getting nuthin; etc.

Edgy DC
Jul 07 2006 11:04 PM

Lima's had one unlucky inning hang him almost every time out.

Unfortunately, at this point he pitches with a small enough margin of error that he can't dig his way out of a little bad luck.

Frayed Knot
Jul 07 2006 11:40 PM

Owens looked good in his MLB debut inning - although it'll help in the future if he can get his slider at least in the same zip code of the plate.
Not gonna get by with a fastball only for very long at this level.

Zvon
Jul 07 2006 11:41 PM

I just saw the Willis slam--YOW! (sweet swing tho).

Glad Lima lost the yellow hair- thats all I can say about him-besides bye Jose.

I saw the Reyes injury- hope he's okay.

Ugly game.
Lets play two tomorrow!

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 07 2006 11:54 PM

They said Reyes just cut his pinky finger, I'm sure he's gonna be fine.

That "compact motion" leaves him somewhere between home and first base after every throw.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 08 2006 12:10 AM

In a hurry to cover first base is he?

If he can get hitters out with regularity, then I'll bad to see him coming out of the pen. Just how hard was he throwing tonight?

My thought too, but Mets.com reporting he will miss Saturday and Sunday's games. 7 stitches.

Funny, yeah. He doesn't really extend his arm, but squats, drives, and brings it from behind his ear, but his follow-through is something else entirely.
