Cabrera needs to be yelled at by his manager... you've got a guy making his major league debut, in the first inning, 2 runners on, and you're swinging at a 3-0 pitch. Thanks!

Frayed Knot Jul 08 2006 05:05 PM |
Miggy Cabrera is a great all-around player but he may be the slowest 23 y/o prof athlete on the planet.
Zvon Jul 08 2006 05:08 PM |
Not the smoothest 1st inning, but Ill take it.

Nolasco sounds like one of those made-up corporate names.

The triple is becoming the Mets' signature hit. Endy leads off with one.
Hillbilly Jul 08 2006 05:09 PM |
Endy does his best Reyes with the leadoff triple!

What do we know about Delgado?

X rays negative. But I bet it hurts.
Zvon Jul 08 2006 05:12 PM |
And loDuke singles him home!
Hillbilly Jul 08 2006 05:12 PM |
Top of the order gives Pelfrey a lead. Lo Duca brings in Endy with a base hit.
Frayed Knot Jul 08 2006 05:15 PM |
Wright's K-ing a lot lately.
TransMonk Jul 08 2006 05:16 PM |
Chavez/LoDuca way better than Valentin/Woodward.
Hillbilly Jul 08 2006 05:18 PM |
Floyd loops a hit. Get this, this is the cool part: Manny Acta told Lo Duca to stop at third.
TransMonk Jul 08 2006 05:20 PM |
Sweet, Valentin scores 4 more!

I hope Willie takes note of this. Beltran walks. Wright, yes FK--I have noticed this, Ks. Floyd singles and Val with-- THE GRAND KABOOM!
Zvon Jul 08 2006 05:38 PM |
Wright with the error gives one back.
Frayed Knot Jul 08 2006 05:40 PM |
Well it's not like they smacking the rook around despite the 2 runs thru 2 innings:
Zvon Jul 08 2006 05:46 PM |
I still dont know if that was a straight squeeze or what, but it reads like one.
Zvon Jul 08 2006 05:51 PM |
Nabisco (ok, Nolasco) hits LoDuca.
Frayed Knot Jul 08 2006 05:51 PM |
It was essentially the "safety" squeeze; runners NOT running and getting the bunt down got the a run.
Zvon Jul 08 2006 05:53 PM |
thnx FK. stinkin fish
Nymr83 Jul 08 2006 05:55 PM |

TransMonk Jul 08 2006 05:55 PM |
Valentin, you mustachioed stud.
Hillbilly Jul 08 2006 05:55 PM |
Valentin can only muster a triple that time.

I dunno Hillbilly-its all relative. Nice story. :)
Frayed Knot Jul 08 2006 06:16 PM |
Still not hitting him much (that 2B was just a well-placed bouncer) but his pitch-count is going to make this a 5-and-out deal for the rook's debut no matter what the run cushion is.
Zvon Jul 08 2006 06:18 PM |

Another not so smooth inning from Pelfrey. A wild pitch in there. Three walks...
....who here thinks I should have gone with "cookie" instead of "cheap chip" ? Or maybe :Thats workin Nabisco till he crackers.
Hillbilly Jul 08 2006 06:34 PM |
Pelfrey gets through the 4th. Up to about 95 pitches. 9-3 Mets
Zvon Jul 08 2006 06:35 PM |

Zvon Jul 08 2006 06:54 PM |

Zvon Jul 08 2006 06:59 PM |

Heh, thats the way you shut your manager up after he decided that you'd be a human pinata the inning before!

I was really hopin to see Owens pitch today too, as well as Pelfrey.

It was part of a roll-call chant that seemed to be coming from the Loge in left field. Attention morons: wrong team, wrong stadium. Hows about we get our own freakin' tradition. Addendum: the catcher's not going to respond to roll-call. He's kind of busy, you know?
SteveJRogers Jul 08 2006 09:22 PM |
Geez, they did that last year also. Plus the fact that Lo Duca is an ADMITTED Met fan, he's not going to respond to some lame rip-off of a MFY fan tradition

I posted Milledge and Pelfrey would be here a month ago but got shot down quickly by the cranepool clique..WOOF
SteveJRogers Jul 09 2006 08:52 AM |
They were both called up due to injuries. Milledge is back in the minors for more seasoning and so will Pelfrey after the break. BIG difference
SteveJRogers Jul 09 2006 09:00 AM |
And while we are at it, exactly HOW is anyone catching us this year? Braves and Phillies have quit on the year, the Marlins are way too young to stay with the Mets, this is NOT the 1969 Mets out there (no Ed Charles, Ed Kranepool, Don Cardwell, hell Cleon, Tug and Buddy could have been called "veterans" at the time as well) and the Nationals are a disorganized mess.

Gotta say this guy is worse than Bret/Sal, at least Bret/Sal went back and forth, this guy does quick hit & runs. I'm still waiting for him to apologize for thinking I was rude in the ASG thread as well as answering who is catching us for the division and how.
TransMonk Jul 09 2006 03:59 PM |
The Chicago White Sox had a 9 game lead last year in their division at the AS break, and an 11 game lead on Cleveland who was in third. By September 22nd the Indians cut that lead to 1.5 games. Oh, and that 2005 White Sox team was better than the 2006 Mets to this point. Now, the Mets play in a much weaker division and no team has really stepped up. But the Marlins are young, hungry and have more than a little talent. Over the past 40 games, roughly 45% of the season so far, they have a better record than the Mets. And we still have 10 games left with them head to head this season. Is it likely...no. Would I bet on it...hell no. But, please, let's not pretend that it is impossible. That being said, I don't want to think about who can catch us or how they are going to do it. I want to win this division going away by 20+ games. But I do believe this team can play better than they have over the past month or so. And they are going to have to if they want to win it all.

Yeah, where's that thread and what's your beef?
metirish Jul 09 2006 09:09 PM |
It looks like he has a beef with the so called clique here, in the years I have posted here and the old place I never thought there was any kind of clique...
Edgy DC Jul 10 2006 01:05 AM |
From Marty Noble's Game Notes: The Marlins-Mets doubleheader Saturday had rookie pitchers John Maine, Mike Pelfrey, Josh Johnson and Rick Nolasco starting. The last time rookies started for both teams in a doubleheader was on Aug. 7, 1977 -- Moose Haas and Lary Sorensen for the Brewers, and Jerry Garvin and Jim Clancy for the first-year Blue Jays.
