That was a great throw wasn't it?, still no score.

Playing great D today.

A little O would be nice. But so far the players of the day are Nady and LoDuca for D.

David's going through another one of those streaks where he's striking out a lot.

I'd love it if he were a little more agressive on the first pitch because everyone is throwing fastballs over the plate because they know he'll take it, and then busting him inside when he's behind in the count.

Hillbilly
Jul 09 2006 02:21 PM

Nady a star on O too. Goes Kaboom. 2-0 Mets.

TransMonk
Jul 09 2006 02:22 PM

Nady goes KABOOM! with Floyd on.

2-0 Mets.

TransMonk
Jul 09 2006 02:30 PM

3-0 Mets as Valentin scores on a LoDuca double.

Keith is trying to sell me the idea that home-team scorekeeping is somehow the way it should be.

Got to disagree, Keith.

I have the Met game on mute and saw some shoving in the Marlins dugout. Who and what?

TransMonk
Jul 09 2006 02:40 PM

Olson was apparently upset at Cabrerra's "error" and made some gesture or comment on the field.

Cabrerra took offense that he was upset.

TransMonk
Jul 09 2006 02:46 PM

Poopcracker...Valentin lets a hot shot eat him up with the bases loaded.

3-2 Mets in the 6th.

Holy moly! I saw Olsen glaring at him after the error. Didn't know he was involved in the shoving. Thanks for the recap!

Sloppy defensive inning, kids, and the Marlins are up 5-3.

Hillbilly
Jul 09 2006 03:11 PM

Fish score 3 in the 7th to take the 5-3 lead. Defense a little shakey in this inning.

At 3:11 on July 9th, Edgy's brain melded with that of Hillbilly.

Cue the worry warts on the internet and sports talk radio. Dropping 4 out of 8 to the Pirates and Marlins on the heels of the disaster against the AL East will certaintly start the drum banging for Willis AND Zito becoming Mets.

Hell callers might be dumb enough to bring the Reyes for Soriano proposition back to life!

I have to log off before I can't turn back.

Valentin leading off the eighth wit a walk sets up the heart of the order.

It's 2-0 on Lo Duke.

Hillbilly
Jul 09 2006 03:38 PM

Marlins turn to suck it up. 1st and 3rd nobody out.

Edgy DC
Jul 09 2006 03:40 PM

Run Lo Duca!

Edgy DC

Ruleage.

SteveJRogers
Jul 09 2006 03:41 PM

Reyes is in the game, probably good sign for an ASG start

Hillbilly
Jul 09 2006 03:41 PM

Into score is Valentin. Reyes into 2nd and stayed on his feet. The haed first slide will come later.

SteveJRogers
Jul 09 2006 03:42 PM

Wonder if an ASG starter ever was taken out of the starting lineup yet was still active for the game? Hmmm

Edgy DC
Jul 09 2006 03:43 PM

Baserunning boners all over.

Beltran's hit would have scored two if Lo Duca had run.

Then Delado lines out to right and Reyes fails to tag.

Da da da da dum...

Say your prayers little one
Dont forget, my son
To include everyone

Tuck you in, warm within
Keep you free from sin
Till the sandman he comes

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Off to never never land

Somethings wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they arent of snow white

Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragons fire
And of things that will bite

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Off to never never land

Now I lay me down to sleep
Pray the lord my soul to keep
If I die before I wake
Pray the lord my soul to take

Hush little baby, dont say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
Its just the beast under your bed,
In your closet, in your head

Exit light
Enter night
Grain of sand

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Were off to never never land

Survived a somewhat sloppy game going into the break

- what'd we give them - 4 infield hits? Not that they were all errors but better plays turn at least some of those into outs; and Valentin's non-play resulted directly in 2 runs. Not an easy play but I was screaming 'Look to Home' several seconds before he finally did.

- the baserunning plays were mentioned.
No reason for LoDuca NOT to be about 2 steps behind Valentin there. If it's caught then he's out and there's no danger of anyone passing another on the bases, and if it's dropped (it was) he strolls into 2nd. Then his pinch-runner brain-locks too - you freeze (or even break back) on liners not immediately head to the next base. Wright's HR bailed both their asses out.

- also the fumble by Nady (who otherwise had a good day) and a real bad relay from Valentin on the same play

- turns out we needed every run too as Wags coughed up a 9th inning HR (tough weekend for closers)

In all, we got a bit lucky ... but I'll take it.
