Kenny Rogers=The Roaster (The Entertainer of the same name lent his name to a chain of CA chicken restaurants, now owned by Nathan's Famous, also featured in a Seinfeld episode)

Damn I forgot Bay as well... Not thinking, too much consternation over Kazmir over the years I guess

Nope. Reds in 1957, with seven starters (later marked down to five).

This was fan voting, by the way. Cincinnati fans stuffed the ballot box, voting for all the Reds' starters. Stan Musial was the only non-Red on the starting team. The commissioner of baseball replaced Wally Post and Gus Bell with Willie Mays and Hank Aaron.

I said current configuration which meant since 1970

That of course, as well as the year before the Reds had another instance of heavy ballot stuffing (with no internet or foreign country votes to contend with either) was why the vote was taken away untill 1970

Needed a comma there. I couldn't figure out what "Kazmir the Roaster" was. Also, I might have my country music wrong, but I thought he was "The Gambler" [??]

Yeah, but Kenny Rogers, the pitcher, is nicknamed The Roaster because of Kenny's, The Gambler, restaurants and his hot temper

??? Chuck thought I made an error, I was clarifying that I was not in error, or I didn't intend for the error, any way to do that without highlighting the words in my OP?

Pedro is resting up back in the Dominican Republic .

]

Pedro Martinez is the only one of the six who is not attending the game, and he left the team for his home in the Dominican Republic after being placed on the disabled list Friday. General manager Omar Minaya expected Martinez to work out there during the All-Star break and rejoin the team for Thursday's workout in Chicago.

And why shouldn't the Yankee fans boo the cleanup hitter on the All-Star team? None of the merits that put him in that spot were achieved in BIG spots.

I would guess the fact that the ChiSox manager named the subs might have had something to do with it.
The Mets didn't have that advantage.
Good for them.

I remember many years ago when one NL All Star team had seven Reds as starters. They were nice enough to name Stan Musial as the other starter.
After that, they changed it so the players and managers voted.
Then, in the spirit of fan friendliness they changed it back to fans voting.

Just in time for computerized voting.

]Glavine, voted onto the staff by players, was replaced because his Sunday start rendered him unavailable for the Tuesday night game. (Martinez, also chosen by players, recently went on the disabled list with a sore hip.)

Just saw this snippet in an article. Are players voting for reserves now, and not just the All-Star team manager? I can't remember.

The reserves are chosen by a combination of player votes and manager/league picks.

Fans vote for the starters
Then the players vote including 5 starting pitchers and 3 relievers. If its a tie with the fan vote the player's runner up gets the nod (thats how the entire player chosen NL squad got picked this year actually)

The rest are chosen by the manager's discretion with input from officials (other managers, the commissioner office, ect) including whom to replace injured selections

Then the fans vote for that 32nd "Final Man" on the roster

All but Dye and Contreras were Manager picks. Surprisingly only two Astros were selected, Berkman as a Garner pick, and Oswalt replaces Pedro

FYI The following is the ASG Players Vote selection for 2006:

AL
INF 1B P Jim Thome White Sox
INF 2B P Robinson Cano Yankees
INF 3B P Troy Glaus Blue Jays
INF SS P Michael Young Rangers
OF P Jermaine Dye White Sox
OF P Alexis Rios Blue Jays
OF P Vernon Wells Blue Jays
C P Joe Mauer Twins
SP P Jose Contreras White Sox
SP P Roy Halladay Blue Jays
SP P Scott Kazmir Devil Rays
SP P Kenny Rogers Tigers
SP P Johan Santana Twins
RP P Jonathan Papelbon Red Sox
RP P BJ Ryan Orioles
RP P Mariano Rivera Yankees

NL (All position players are runners up, the only AL I know was 3B, because ARod failed to finish 2nd behind Glaus and Chavez)
INF 1B P Ryan Howard Phillies
INF 2B P Dan Uggla Marlins
INF 3B P Miguel Cabrera Marlins
INF SS P Edgar Renteria Braves
OF P Andruw Jones Braves
OF P Matt Holliday Rockies
OF P Carlos Lee Brewers
C P Brian McCann Braves
SP P Bronson Arroyo Reds
SP P Chris Carpenter Cardinals
SP P Tom Glavine Mets
SP P Pedro Martinez Mets
SP P Brandon Webb Diamondbacks
RP P Trevor Hoffman Padres
RP P Tom Gordon Phillies
RP P Derrick Turnbow Brewers

As you can see, the Players, like the fans generally go with whom they think are the best that given year with no regard for "everyone needs a rep" though the Rockies and Brewers may be questionable
