| Interesting Fact: When TMBG moved beyond their format of the two Johns with a drum machine, and began touring and then recording with a drummer and a bassist, the change caused much controversy amongst die-hard fans. Some went as far as to stand outside of the concerts discouraging people from watching the performance, claiming it wasn't the "true" They Might Be Giants. These people may be the dorkiest people ever. | Interesting Fact: Laurence "Lol" Tolhurst was the last original band member besides Smith to when he was asked to leave in 1989, his drinking having interfered with the band since 1990. He had moved from drums, to keys, to being credited with "other instruments" on Disintegration. The band's US breakthrough single "Let's Go to Bed," was recorded at time when the band officially contained just Smith and Tolhurst. The song was presumed to be about some sort of indifferent nu-wave seduction. In fact, it was about trying to drag Tolhurst home to bed after a night of drinking. |
