Anyone interested? We can play matches on the web and stuff. And post the transcriptions of the games to study and critique play.

I'd do it. Are there any free sites where you can form a group? I play at GameKnot and the free account lets you play up to 10 matches (IIRC) at a time, 2) there's "buddy lists" to add peeps you play frequently or want to keep up with, 3) there's a chat window that's kinda cool, and 4) they keep ratings and a decent amount of statistics.

The only real negative are the annoying tracking pop-up ads that come with the free account. I've set Firefox to always block from doubleclick/speedclick, etc., but occasionally one or three from another company sneak through.

I've never even thought about the possibility of setting up a group. I was just thinking of yahoo or something, where once you have an account you can just play each other.

That site you mention sounds really cool, though I am extremely wary of any spyware or adware getting into my machine.

I don't blame you. FWIW, I use Firefox with the Adblock plugin, and using the "Exceptions" option for cookie handling, I've blocked cookies from a bunch of known shady places and come up clean testing with Adware and Spybot after playing a day's worth of chess over there. Like I said, I've only had problems with new pop-ups sneaking through if they're using a new ad service. Then I just delete that cookie and block the site.

Here's those sites:

advertising.com
atdmt.com
casalemedia.com
commission-junction.com
doubleclick.net
ehg-dig.hitbox.com
fastclick.net
hitbox.com
linksynergy.com
mediaplex.com
valueclick.com

I suppose it's a bit of a pain in the ass, but those sites are a nuisance at lots of other places besides this chess joint anyway.

I've never been able to figure out how to play chess myself.

Is Yahoo! email chess or live chess or both?

I've only participated in live chess on Yahoo. I'm not sure about email chess.

Did this ever go anywhere?

Sorry. No Internet or mail chess for me. I like to see the expression in your eyes when you realize that you are beaten. (reference from the James Bond book Goldfinger )
