Lance Bondstrong

A Boy Named Seo

The LA Times is reporting on thousands of pages of documents, exhibits, and testimonies that were given at a Texas arbitration hearing between Lance Armstrong and a company that promised him $5 mils if he won the 2004 Tour de France. Armstrong did win, but the company didn't want to pay after allegations of doping surfaced. The dispute went to court, where several of Armstrong's teammates were even called to testify, and the documents from the trial were somehow leaked to the Times.

I don't know whether Armstrong did anything or not, and there's certainly a lot of heresay that's being reported as fact, but it is a different angle to hear teammates testify to his EPO usage and see them get dismissed by Armstrong, too. The Greg LeMond exchange is especially venomous.

Some similarities to the Bonds thing, too, as Barry's alleged usage also was intensified after leaked court documents, they both had connections to a shady doping guy and in both cases the shady guy claimed that the substances weren't bad, just incorrect usage of them was, and both athletes explaining away important events with stupid answers (Bonds claiming he didn't know the cream and the clear were steroids and Lance admitting he met a doctor known for doping in a parking lot the day before a race, but only to check body fat and body composition). There's doctor's offices for that kinda thing, Lance.

Whatever the truth is, the article has a lot of information (most of it conflicting), and will probably be a huge pain (like a needle prick) in Lance's ass for a long time.

Problems are:

-You CANT TOUCH A CANCER SURVIVOR! Even if he walked out on one marriage and ended it with the homewrecker he left it for

-Cycling (uh, no pun intended) is probably slightly more appreciated in this country than soccer, so the guy gets showered in this country with praise and love as if he's Charles Lindberg despite the fact that he actually is hated by true cycling fans and is the ARod of his sport

In other words, people hate Barry Bonds, and not in the "love to hate" kind anymore, now its "Get out of our lives" hate, Armstrong is quite a beloved figure here and this will pass over

At least deal in facts here.
His marriage ended (as many do) which doesn't necc mean he "walked out on" his wife. Nor, btw, was Sheryl Crow the reason for his marriage ending. He didn't even meet her until some time after the split.

I touch them all the time. If you mean that you can't turn a court or public opinion against a cancer surviovr, I'll give you, I don't know, Darryl Strawberry.

If he is a doper, and I ain't saying he is, and it's possible the cancer can be linked to the doping, and I'm not saying it can, it behooves us to touch him all over.

Even after mentally softening up the over-broadness of these characterizations, I don't think either of them stand up.

True, I was being over-reactionary, sorry

True, but generally its PC to do that to anyone afflicted with anything, or even forced to endure tragic circumstances. There is a thread right now on another board where a poster is going ballistic because one dopey radio host in New York constantly hates on Alonzo Mourning because of how he completely screwed over two teams just to get his ring, the poster things the host is out of line because Mourning suffers from a kidney disease

Which proves that the radio host, who has much more authority (if not moral authority) than the poster, can indeed touch Mourning, PC to do so or not.

The possibility of Armstrong being a doper makes me sad.

The guy has been tested more than anyone in professional sports. Move on.

I don't know if you can test for blood doping.
