It looks like he reached base on a sacrifice bunt. It was called a sacrifice, and not a hit, so maybe an error was made on the play. Reyes up, bases loaded, one out, 2-1 Mets.

Looks like both ends of the Philly battery is going to have themselves a short afternoon as Reyes hits his signature play (3-bagger) to knock in 2, and then gets singled in by Cammy. Leiber is already up over 80 pitches w/only 1 out in the 4th and on the short end of a 5-1 game.

Willie, can you please please please let your pitchers work and stop trying to be so cute? It's the seventh inning and we were only up by 3 runs. Why burn one of your better relievers on just two batters? Plus: Bell against lefties: 12.1 IP, 13 H, 3 BB, 10 K, 1 HR. That's better than he's done against righties. Ring against lefties (before today): 5 IP, 4 H, 4 BB, 5 K, 0 HR. Let's try and win the ballgame, Willie. Come on.

i was there today, great game. Beltran could have moonwalked home from 3rd and stolen the plate easily. that shift against Floyd is STUPID.

They had the shift on with a runner on third? Will someone explain to me now why he didn't bunt the ball up the third base line? Unless he's the crappiest bunter ever, Nymr is right, Beltran could crawl home and Floyd would easily make it to first.

Cliff did bunt for a basehit earlier in the game against the shift ... nice bunt too. The problem w/the time where Carlos was on 3rd was that he didn't get there (via his 2nd consect stolen base) until there were 2 strikes on Cliff w/2 outs. Bunting unsuccessfully there w/your best power hitter would look really effing stupid. And - even though Carlos could lead halfway down the line w/that shift on - it's virtually impossible to steal home w/a righty pitcher and lefty hitter unless the pitcher is stupid enough to deal from the full windup.

Ah, I didn't realize there were two strikes by the time Carlos got there. I agree with your opinion on the chances of stealing home too, I wasn't advocating that, just the bunt itself.
