Notes: Brewers thinking about logo
Team gives away T-shirts to help decide aesthetic future

CHICAGO -- Go old school or stay in the now? That's the choice facing Brewers fans when they pass through the turnstiles at Miller Park on Friday.
It's part giveaway, part focus group. Every fan in attendance will choose a free T-shirt for Friday's Brewers-Pirates game; one is navy blue and features the team's current script "M" logo accented with barley, and the other is bright yellow and features the old "ball and glove" logo that adorned Brewers caps from 1978-1993.

"It is an informal focus group," said Rick Schlesinger, the Brewers' executive vice president of business operations. "We certainly are interested in our fans' preferences regarding logos, and Battle of the T-Shirt Night is just one of several ways we are polling our fans. We have not made any decisions on logos at this point."

During Spring Training, new Brewers owner Mark Attanasio said that the he was reviewing the team's overall branding and marketing, including the uniforms. The Brewers have a number of options, from a complete change to special jerseys for batting practice or selected home games, or they may simply stick with the current look.

"I'm with you," said Brewers manager Ned Yost, who proudly wore the hat as a member of Harvey's Wallbangers. "I like the logo. It wouldn't bother me if they changed back to it. I'm like everybody else. I'd love the hats."

The t-shirt giveaway thing is not a good test: One shirt is navy blue, the other is bright yellow. Some fans will make their choice based on the shirt color rather than the logo.

Anybody want to organize a CPF battle of the Logos vote-off?

On an informal poll of Brewer fans I know, the old skool logo wins handily.

I don't think I've ever met a Brewers fan.

Have we seen this poster before a few times at the old board?, he/she had an online petition then as well.

I don't think I know any Brewers fans either. There was a guy from Miller beer I met a few years ago who told me his young son was bummed that they had traded Burnitz to the Mets. I felt bad for his son.

Yeah, this poster visited the old place also.

I think apostrophe was there also.

Oh yeah! I do remember this poster! I thought it sounded familliar. I didn't even look at the person posting it... I just assumed it was one of the regulars.

The old logo is cool in terms of getting it on a t-shirt and wearing it, but to put it back in the rotation as an alternative to the actual game worn jerseys is silly.

It's ugly, cartoon-like and basically dumb.

I'm guessing Miller Brewing might also have a say or at least possibly object to any permanent logo change.

I don't think that its just a coinkydink that the 'M' on the Brewers current cap has a distinct resemblence to the 'M' in 'Miller'. Hmmm, and don't they play in 'Miller Park'?
