Willets were you having a bad day? I just noticed all these

Thanks for dragging this up, sweetie! It took me a minute to realize it's forty
days old and I was read to just pack it in for the day.

I keep getting logged off every few minutes. I had to log on 5 different times just to read through today's posts.

I've never had this problem before, so hopefully it's just a temporary glitch.

I got a question. Do you (anyone reading this post) show up in the "users
browsing this forum" when you're in a forum. I do sometimes and other times
I don't. There are a few weird quirks, I just kind of ignore them.

seawolf17
Sep 29 2005 10:08 PM

I think the "users browsing this forum" reflects users who have been active within the last few minutes, but there's probably a little delay from when you click into the forum to when you show up on the list.

I've noticed it. It makes me feel so "stealth"

What web browser are you using?

I usually use Firefox these days, and I don't have that problem. But during the week, when my high speed internet was out, I logged on from the public library using Internet Explorer and the Pool logged me out several times (which was extra frustrating because my connection wasn't all that fast to begin with).

cooby
Oct 02 2005 06:50 PM

IE, here and at work, that must be the problem then

But listen, just now when I clicked on what Valadius said to quote him in the Mike Piazza thread, I got logged out and everyone else's name was gone too. (including yours) Didn't you get logged out just now?

ScarletKnight41
Oct 02 2005 06:56 PM

I didn't get logged out. I sometimes sign in and out of here to quickly check things out while I'm taking a break from my schoolwork. When I came back just now, I was still logged in.

Valadius

This is why I have Firefox.

cooby
Oct 02 2005 08:08 PM

It's no biggie.

If I change my browser at home, I'll be sleeping in the pool shed, if I change it at work, my next career will be selling pencils.

I can live with it

KC
Oct 04 2005 09:41 AM

I don't really think it's a browser issue. Seems to me, the time between
posts and/or periods of inactivity has gotten shorter before you get logged
out - if anything.

No settings or software has been changed since we moved in, so far as I
know, so if anything is really different the last few weeks for posters the an-
swer may lie somewhere besides the actual board.

I've been able to stay logged in much better this afternoon. Maybe our desktops
are being controlled by hackers (or cooby) with a weird sense of humor.

I did read something on PHPBB's web site that AOL users frequently have trouble staying logged in. Something about the way AOL uses roving IP addresses or something.

Those of you who are having problems, if you're AOLers, that might be the reason why.

seawolf17

Every time I see the word "AOLer," I think of this:

What y'all wanna do?
Wanna be hackers? Code crackers? Slackers
Wastin' time with all the chatroom yakkers?
9 to 5, chillin' at Hewlett Packard?
Workin' at a desk with a dumb little placard?
Yeah, payin' the bills with my mad programming skills
Defraggin' my hard drive for thrills
I got me a hundred gigabytes of RAM
I never feed trolls and I don't read spam
Installed a T1 line in my house
Always at my PC, double-clickin' on my mizouse
Upgrade my system at least twice a day
I'm strictly plug-and-play, I ain't afraid of Y2K
I'm down with Bill Gates, I call him "Money" for short
I phone him up at home and I make him do my tech support
It's all about the Pentiums, what?
You've gotta be the dumbest newbie I've ever seen
You've got white-out all over your screen
You think your Commodore 64 is really neato
What kinda chip you got in there, a Dorito?
You're usin' a 286? Don't make me laugh
Your Windows boots up in what, a day and a half?
You could back up your whole hard drive on a floppy diskette
You're the biggest joke on the Internet
Your database is a disaster
You're waxin' your modem, tryin' to make it go faster
Hey fella, I bet you're still livin' in your parents' cellar
Downloadin' pictures of Sarah Michelle Gellar
And postin' "Me too!" like some brain-dead AOL-er
I should do the world a favor and cap you like Old Yeller
You're just about as useless as jpegs to Helen Keller

I use a cable modem. I seem to get kicked off any time I take more than a few minutes reading posts in a thread or writing a post.

I know I'm not the swiftest typist, but I actually was disconnected twice while trying to make this simple reply.

ScarletKnight41
Oct 04 2005 07:57 PM

I don't get kicked off per se. But lately, for no reason, often the board will reset itself and won't tell me which threads are still unread (they will all appear to have been read, even if I haven't looked at them yet).

seawolf - it's all about the Pentiums, baby! ;)

I never get logged off. Ever. I'm running vanilla mozilla (I had issues with firefox) and I have cable. I also ticked the little "Keep me logged on on this computer" button when I first logged in here. I don't know it that information will help anyone.

Frankly, Scarlett, that's been happening to me, too. Sometimes, not always, when I post a response in a thread, the other threads that I haven't read yet lose their unread status.

This first popped up in the last week or two.

ScarletKnight41
Oct 06 2005 03:45 PM

Yes - it's a recent phenomenon.

Rockin' Doc
Oct 07 2005 06:29 AM

I agree that getting logged off unexpectedly is a recent problem. I never had it happen to me until last week. Now it seems to happens any time that I stay in the same thread for too long. If I spend much time reading a thread or writing a post, then I'm almost assured that I will be disconnected once I move to the next screen. I just have to keep moving.

I guess I should post more (brief posts) and read less. It's either that or log on repeatedly each time I visit the CPF.

Upon Edit: This response apparently took too long to type. I got disconnected when I tried to post it.

"I Don't Mind"

Reality's a dream
A game in which I seem
To never find out just what I am
I don't know if I'm an actor or ham
A shamen or sham
But if you don't mind
I don't mind

I'm lost without a clue
So how can I undo
The tangle of these webs I keep weaving
I don't know if I should be believing
Deceptive perceiving
But if you don't mind
I don't mind

I used to bet that you didn't care
But gambling never got me anywhere
Each time I used to feel so sure
Something about you made me doubt you more

How can you convince me
When everything I see
Just makes me feel you're putting me down
And if it's true this pathetic clown'll
Keep hanging around
That's if you don't mind
I don't mind

I used to bet that you didn't care
But gambling never got me anywhere
Each time I used to be so sure
Something about you made me doubt you more

I even think you hate me when you call me on the phone
And sometimes when we go out I wish I'd stayed at home
And when I'm dreaming or just lying in my bed
I think you've got it in for me
Is it all in my head is it in my head

How can you convince me
When everything I see
Just makes me feel you're putting me down
And if it's true this pathetic clown'll
Keep hanging around
That's if you don't mind
I don't mind
I don't mind

"Ever Fallen In Love With Someone (You Shouldn't've Fallen In Love With)?"

You spurn my natural emotions
You make me feel like dirt
And I'm hurt
And if I start a commotion
I run the risk of losing you
And that's worse

Ever fallen in love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

I can't see much of a future
Unless we find out what's to blame
What a shame
And we won't be together much longer
Unless we realize that we are the same

Ever fallen in love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

You disturb my natural emotions
You make me feel like dirt
And I'm hurt
And if I start a commotion
I'll only end up losing you
And that's worse

Ever fallen in love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

Ever fallen in love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
Ever fallen in love
In love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with
Fallen in love with
Ever fallen in love with someone
You shouldn't've fallen in love with

>>>I have no explanation, theories, or solution.<<<

I tried a bunch of things, there's no pattern that I can see. Sometimes
I just got bumped off. Other times I was able to switch to six different
sites and come back to the cpf and it cookied me in no problem. Other
times, I would just click on something on the cpf and get logged off.

I'm sorry if people really find it a pain in the ass, but I'm clueless at
this point.
