And the manager said they really want to win?
C'mon now.

This game is going to be ugly. I sense a big AL win. I don't like the NL team at all.

What the hell did they make Carrie Underwood wear? That was horrendous.

Edgy DC
Jul 11 2006 08:38 PM

Ozzie (according to Buck): "I'm not gonna play everybody on my roster, and if you don't like it, then make the team next year."

Um, cool, I guess. Let's see that in action.

Yea--that aint right.
Idiots.

No signs for the NL team--Garner says "strut your stuff."
Guillan says " Im playin this like its game 7 of the world series."
No mention of his strategy so he must have one.

Ichiro with a Old-Reyesesque wild swing as he's stepping towards first to strike out.

That stupid rule actually hooked me in, at least for the early innings. I never watch this silly game. But my team has playoff aspirations. Or at least they did until this week's SI hits newsstands.

Penny blowing these guys away with 99 and 97 MPH heat.

I was jokin about loDuke cuz penny shook him off afew times in the 1st.

But he's shakin off anything but the fast ball from LoDuca--
wait- he makes me a lyer and tosses up a curve--nice curve too.

Interesting start-
Penny almost ties the record of 4 Ks to start the game, but A Rod ruins it with a groundout.

OMG-- I cant believe it--Guerrero will swing at anything and he takes a high fast ball out of the K zone and smacks an opposite field homer.
Unbelievable-
1-0 AL.

If he gets thrown out there he's the anti-MVP.

Id like to say Beltran was sure he had it made, but Ive seen him do this before and Ive seen him thrown out.

I just dont think the chance is worth the gain in that situation.

It seemed a poor effort there, but I also question why the "no doubles" defense is always used in that situation. If I have two outs (and especially if I have the home field and a chance to win a tie game in the ninth) my first concern is to get the out and win the game, so I would focus on setting up my defense to maximize the chance of getting an out, rather than preventing a guy from getting to second.

Disclaimer - i concede that it is possible that Konerko is a dead pull hitter and playing close to the line may in fact have been the regular defensive alignment. Either way, I am not blaming Garner, just wondering what others think is the best general strategy in that situation.

MFS62
Jul 12 2006 08:59 AM

Question: What's the difference between Trevor Hoffman and Braden Looper?

Answer: About 20 MPH.

But let's look at the bright side. Yes, the AL will have the home field advantage in the World Series. But the Mets are a very good road team.

Selig's a shortsighted moron. He slapped a band-aid on the All-Star game "tie problem" after 2002, and now he's stuck slapping a bigger band-aid over that one. Just let them play the fricking game. Or move it to November, so you don't have to worry about that stuff.

Edgy DC

I see, untouchable.

Meanwhile, in the AAA All-Star Game, once and future Met Royce Ring threw a shutout inning as the International League blanked the Pacific Coast League, 6-0.

Other former Mets in All-Star action for the Internationals included Jason Tyner (0-1 representing the Rochester Red Wings) and Jorge Velandia (1-2 with a run scored, representing the Charlotte Knights).

The PCL was cool, and made only five substitutions.
