metirish Jul 11 2006 08:08 PM |
FOX are now doing a bit on Pittsburgh and some of the great players that have played for the Pirates, no mention of Ralph Kiner yet.....

I haven't tuned in yet. The first pitch is usually sometime around 1 AM, right?
metirish Jul 11 2006 08:15 PM |
No mention of Ralph, Buck is now just introducing the AL team.
MFS62 Jul 11 2006 08:27 PM |
Renteria batting ahead of Wright?
seawolf17 Jul 11 2006 08:33 PM |
This game is going to be ugly. I sense a big AL win. I don't like the NL team at all.
Edgy DC Jul 11 2006 08:38 PM |
Ozzie (according to Buck): "I'm not gonna play everybody on my roster, and if you don't like it, then make the team next year."
Zvon Jul 11 2006 08:45 PM |
Yea--that aint right. Idiots. No signs for the NL team--Garner says "strut your stuff." Guillan says " Im playin this like its game 7 of the world series." No mention of his strategy so he must have one.

I think you meant AL vs NL.
Elster88 Jul 11 2006 08:46 PM |
Ichiro with a Old-Reyesesque wild swing as he's stepping towards first to strike out.
Zvon Jul 11 2006 08:49 PM |
Wow-
Elster88 Jul 11 2006 08:49 PM |
That stupid rule actually hooked me in, at least for the early innings. I never watch this silly game. But my team has playoff aspirations. Or at least they did until this week's SI hits newsstands.
Elster88 Jul 11 2006 08:49 PM |
Penny blowing these guys away with 99 and 97 MPH heat.
metirish Jul 11 2006 08:50 PM |
Penny looks bloody great, 2 strike outs to start the game....yeah Jow we all know Jeter's resume but why not tell us again how great he is.
Elster88 Jul 11 2006 08:50 PM |
Now I'm hoping the Dodgers don't make the playoffs. Can you say Hershiser?
Elster88 Jul 11 2006 08:51 PM |
Irish, I think you hate Jeter more than anyone else in the world. You're passionate, I'll give you that.
Zvon Jul 11 2006 08:52 PM |
awwww, how can you go and remind me of '88. ya bastage. Penny strikes out the side- impressive, but i credit his catcher for only calling for da heat.
metirish Jul 11 2006 08:52 PM |
Penny strikes out the side...WOW....I hate Jeter but what I hate more is getting him crammed down my throat all the time.

I like David just a little less after seeing that player profile.

LMAOOOOOOOO. Beltran ALMOST drives in run #2. Carlos is 2 for 2. Thats was neat to see, Garner talking during the Soriano stolen base. He was all gitty watching it go down, lol. He's really lettin the players play. AND BELTRAN STEALS 3RD AND COMES HOME ON A WP! The Mets are doin it all. Well ill be...
ScarletKnight41 Jul 11 2006 09:36 PM |
Beltran scores on a Wild Pitch!
Iubitul Jul 11 2006 09:43 PM |
It's really good to be a Mets fan right now - Mets 2 - AL 1, and Captain intangibles has Ked twice....
Zvon Jul 11 2006 09:45 PM |
looked real foolish that last one too. :)
ScarletKnight41 Jul 11 2006 09:46 PM |
MK has been mocking Captain Intangibles all night, in this adorable sing-song voice <g>
Zvon Jul 11 2006 09:49 PM |
Ya gotta record that and put it on YouTube. MK will be this weeks innerweb star! Who thinks Reyes will pinch run at some point?
metirish Jul 11 2006 09:50 PM |
But look at his resume, it's amazing......the NL can win this thing.

Edgy DC Jul 11 2006 10:03 PM |
Hey, Freddie Sanchez, stop shoving the Met.
Zvon Jul 11 2006 10:03 PM |
lol--you see Freddie sanchez push Wright out of the way on that foul pop?
metirish Jul 11 2006 10:05 PM |
Arroyo pitching for the NL, he's been brillaint this season in the National League which might prove that the NL is a lot weaker than the AL, did he ever look this good for Boston?
Zvon Jul 11 2006 10:06 PM |
OH!
Zvon Jul 11 2006 10:09 PM |
Not as good as he has this 1st half in the NL. He had shown he can pitch but never put anything together the way he has done so far this year. A pleasant surprise, fantasy wise.
ScarletKnight41 Jul 11 2006 10:13 PM |
Zito pitched a 1-2-3 inning, despite A-Rod's almost error on LoDuca.
Zvon Jul 11 2006 10:19 PM |
Fun to see him butcher the grounder and then make a bad throw. Would have been really fun if he threw it away and Loduca was safe. Jeter grounds to Wright! Even stevens.
Zvon Jul 11 2006 10:21 PM |

John Legend turns in a nice rendition of G-d Bless America at the 7th inning stretch.
Zvon Jul 11 2006 10:38 PM |
And they have to bother Mr Wright (Daves dad) with a lame interview during the game.
metirish Jul 11 2006 10:41 PM |
Tom Gordan getting ready for the 8th....nooooooooooooo. ..joking of course.....Santana pitching for the AL, he is a joy to watch.
Zvon Jul 11 2006 10:44 PM |

He is- 131 ks at the break- after a bit of a rough start this season.

Edgy DC Jul 11 2006 11:03 PM |
Everything about the subtext here says Wright is MVP.
ScarletKnight41 Jul 11 2006 11:04 PM |
Shhh - no counting chickens before they're hatched!
ScarletKnight41 Jul 11 2006 11:04 PM |

Zvon Jul 11 2006 11:05 PM |
Wright would have made a fantastic diving stop on that basehit by Konerko.
Willets Point Jul 11 2006 11:06 PM |
Not if the AL ties it here.
ScarletKnight41 Jul 11 2006 11:06 PM |

metirish Jul 11 2006 11:06 PM |
I hate this shit..AL take the lead in the ninth..
Zvon Jul 11 2006 11:07 PM |

Willets Point Jul 11 2006 11:07 PM |
There goes our fourth game at Shea. Ah well, I guess that means the Mets will be at home when they sweep.

ScarletKnight41 Jul 11 2006 11:17 PM |
Beltran's on second with two out.
Zvon Jul 11 2006 11:17 PM |
Howard moved Carlos to second with a cheap lil ground out to second.
Zvon Jul 11 2006 11:18 PM |
what on earth is the point of stealing 3rd there?
Johnny Dickshot Jul 11 2006 11:19 PM |
Thanks a fucking lot, Cabrera. Din't it look like he had a better shot at that?
Willets Point Jul 11 2006 11:19 PM |

Zvon Jul 11 2006 11:21 PM |

Get a clue. You remember what happened earlier in this game for crying out loud, don't you? In case you couldn't tell, I'm pissed at the world right now.
Zvon Jul 11 2006 11:23 PM |

Wright woulda snagged that and turned into a triple play. Yea, i know there was no one on-- I dont care--he wouldve im tellin ya

Riveras gonna throw a WP there?? Wishful thinking.
Elster88 Jul 11 2006 11:27 PM |
It could happen. He always chokes in big games. You saw the 2001 WS and 2004 ALCS, right?

He could plunk Craig Counsell.

Edgy DC Jul 11 2006 11:28 PM |

My conscience is clean. I was just observing how their cameras kept coming back to him.
Willets Point Jul 11 2006 11:33 PM |
Rivera would throw his back out before he threw me.
Gwreck Jul 11 2006 11:34 PM |
That was my thought. That sure as hell wasn't an all-star effort. Also strange that Andruw Jones wasn't brought into the OF for defense in the 9th. Carlos Lee? You gotta be kidding me.
metirish Jul 11 2006 11:34 PM |
Well I hate this stuff, FU Hoffman....
Zvon Jul 11 2006 11:41 PM |
Yea-and the catcher could have thrown it into left- but its just unfundimental baseball. If he gets thrown out there he's the anti-MVP. Id like to say Beltran was sure he had it made, but Ive seen him do this before and Ive seen him thrown out. I just dont think the chance is worth the gain in that situation. 2 out in the ninth, and all star calebre bat at the plate. Lees batting .290 with 73 RBI. Hes got 99 hits! Hell, its all water under the bridge now-- Im feelin pissed too. This game was ours and the MVP award was ours. *Z waves his fist at Hoffman*
Iubitul Jul 11 2006 11:45 PM |
Look at it this way - 1/3 of the Mets line up took on the AL by themselves, and almost won the game...
Zvon Jul 11 2006 11:46 PM |
I was amazed that afew prime bats never got in. I guess a close game like this Garner had to consider the possiblity of extra innings.
Zvon Jul 11 2006 11:49 PM |
I like that line of thought. Im gonna buy you and Willets a beer.
ScarletKnight41 Jul 12 2006 07:43 AM |
Beltrain scoring -
seawolf17 Jul 12 2006 07:44 AM |
Well, shit, Trevor... Billy Wagner could have done that.
86-Dreamer Jul 12 2006 08:46 AM |
It seemed a poor effort there, but I also question why the "no doubles" defense is always used in that situation. If I have two outs (and especially if I have the home field and a chance to win a tie game in the ninth) my first concern is to get the out and win the game, so I would focus on setting up my defense to maximize the chance of getting an out, rather than preventing a guy from getting to second. Disclaimer - i concede that it is possible that Konerko is a dead pull hitter and playing close to the line may in fact have been the regular defensive alignment. Either way, I am not blaming Garner, just wondering what others think is the best general strategy in that situation.
MFS62 Jul 12 2006 08:59 AM |
Question: What's the difference between Trevor Hoffman and Braden Looper?
metirish Jul 12 2006 09:04 AM |
No Met games till Friday, now that sucks donkey balls.
metirish Jul 12 2006 09:21 AM |
Selig is now talking about a rule barring All-Star pitchers from pitching for their teams right before the game, sounds crazy to me.
Elster88 Jul 12 2006 09:45 AM |
Maybe he's getting senile.
seawolf17 Jul 12 2006 10:01 AM |
Selig's a shortsighted moron. He slapped a band-aid on the All-Star game "tie problem" after 2002, and now he's stuck slapping a bigger band-aid over that one. Just let them play the fricking game. Or move it to November, so you don't have to worry about that stuff.
Edgy DC Jul 12 2006 10:17 AM |
So how about Montgomery Burns Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence going to a guy dead for 33 years? Wasn't this a nebulous award in recent years seemingly set up to honor perennial All Stars at the end of their run?
Edgy DC Jul 13 2006 01:20 AM |
I see, untouchable.
