lol.

0-0 after one-
Mets did nothing off Zambrano,...and he looks on his game today.

Cubs with a single and a walk off Glavine in the 1st.
Endy Chavez with the one out diving catch off Lee is big.

Chavez is great to watch in the field.

"It's always an adventure with Buckner behind the plate. He is not one of the better umpires out there"

- Keith Hernandez on home plate umpire C.B. Buckner.

Gotta love it.

Gotta love it.

Yea, I like that he said that too-
He's not giving Glavine the same plate he's giving Zambrano.

="OlerudOwned"]Chavez is great to watch in the field.

That was an excellent catch fighting off the sun.

0-0 after 2

Zambrano is some pithcher, wish we had him.

Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Jul 15 2006 04:58 PM

Glavine is the 1st Met to reach, on an error by 3rd baseman Ramirez.

edit:my bad-Wright walked in the 2nd.

On the night of the trade deadline in 2004 Gary Cohen in the postgame said "The Mets acquired Carlos... I wish... Victor Zambrano..."

Today I wish any team but the Cubs had him.

0-0 thru 2 and a half.

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 05:09 PM

Glavine does get some calls this inning-
"Thats that C.B. Buckner floating strike zone."
lol.

0-0 after 4.
Mets are hitless.

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 05:26 PM

Zambrano with an infield single and a stolen base.
Cripes.
But he's stranded at 2nd.

0-0 after 5.

Top of the order for the Mets in the 6th.

OlerudOwned
Jul 15 2006 05:28 PM

Leadoff triple for Valentin.

Tremendous hit. He's a monster.

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 05:28 PM

Valentin breaks up the no hitter in style, with a triple to right leading off the 6th.

metirish
Jul 15 2006 05:32 PM

Teh way Glavine is pitching one run might do, looks like Zambrano pitched around Beltran to get to Delgado, make him pay Carlos.

OlerudOwned
Jul 15 2006 05:33 PM

Delgado finds a hole!

1-0 Mets.

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 05:34 PM

Cubs bring the infield in, and get an easy ground out to short from LoDuca- Val cant advance.

Zambrano gives beltran nothing to hit and he draws the walk.

Delgado up--gotta stay out of the DP here.
And the Mets really have to find a way to plate that run.

Delgado with a seeing eye single thru the hole into right!

Valentin scores!
Beltran to third.....

That was a tini hole he found too-
off the bat I thought NO!
A grounder to 1st!
DP ball!

But it squeaks thru.

Wrights rung up on one of those C.B. Buckner floating strikes.

Floyd with a chance to get the Mets another run-
Zambrano is suddenly looking erratic.
Walks Floyd.

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 05:42 PM

Bases juiced for Chavez--who pokes a line single past the pigeon in left.
Beltran scores!

Mets up 2-0

Jul 15 2006 05:42 PM

I'm just checking in for the first time here. Nice to see that Beltran's able to play.

No Reyes yet, huh?

metirish
Jul 15 2006 05:43 PM

Reyes probably won't play till Tuesday says Gary.

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 05:46 PM

Zambranos body english screams: "Im done!"
(I hope so anyway--lets get into their pen)

Thats what you get for beating out grounders for hits and stealing bases, Zambi.

Mets could break it open here---but they dont as Woody hits a humpback groundout to 2nd that ends the inning.

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 05:48 PM

UGH--for all the nice plays Chavez has made today--he loses the leadoff fly in the sun and TheRiot ends up with a triple.

TransMonk
Jul 15 2006 05:48 PM

The Riot with a triple to start the Cubs 6th.

metirish
Jul 15 2006 05:50 PM

Peterson to the mound for a chat, he looks weird without the jacket.

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 05:52 PM

Glavine then gives up a walk and a single-

No out.

2-1, Mets still hold the lead.

And thatll be all for Glavine.
Bradford will take over.

TransMonk
Jul 15 2006 05:53 PM

Ramirez singles home The Riot.

Chadford in to try and keep a one run lead intact.

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 05:55 PM

Bradford gets a quick first out, a force at 2nd.

Cubs have 1st and 3rd, and the Mets really could use a DP here.

metirish
Jul 15 2006 05:59 PM

Nooooooooo....

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 06:03 PM

Im not used to seeing Bradford throw so many pitches to any one batter.
Murton works him like a rented mule.
Bradford does get a chopping grounder on about the 9th pitch of the at bat, but it threads the needle up the middle for an RBI single.

Tie game,2-2.

And Nafti Perez lines a ball past Wright and the Cubs take the lead.

Pigeonpoop.

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 15 2006 06:04 PM

Does that seem like a quick hook for Glavine?

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 06:06 PM

Henry Blanco follows with a 2 RBI double-ripped down the 3rd baseline, just fair.

And Bradfords done for the day.

Feliciano will come on, part of a double switch that includes the X-man.

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 15 2006 06:08 PM

Five-run inning for the Cubs (and still only one out).

This game has suddenly taken an ugly turn.

No Schaefer for Bradford today!

Ricky P went out there--I would think Glavine said something there that would have prompted that decision.

Everythings going right for the Cubs as a chopping grounder finds it way to left, and Pagan greets Feliciano with a single.

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 06:11 PM

A fine DP led by Valentin stops the bleeding.

Mets down 5-2 :(

So far, reading through this IGT is much like reading a novel that starts out strong and builds my interest then suddenly in a bizarre plot twist kills of the likable main character. There's still a few pages left to be written. Hopefully, the ending will will redeem this middle section and bring satisfaction to us all.

HA!
well put.

Hope the plot turns back our way soon-
Cubbies plate another off Owens in the 7th, following a walk and stolen base by ThatRiotGuy, an infield single by Lee, and a Ramirez single up the middle.

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 06:42 PM

Shame--the 1st I get to see Owens pitch and he's getting smacked around like Bret Myers wife.(<okay,okay--i agree-bad taste-I take that one back)

Nice compact windup--nice movement and speed-not throwing horrible-the Cubs have hit some nice pitches.

Mets have just fallen apart as a cheap dribbler to short ends up plating another run as Woody thows it, somehow, under LoDuca at home.

I'm blacked out by MLB.tv. All their fault.

Zvon

Mabry with a sac fly--
9-2 Chicago.

Owens left to get out of this inning, which he finally does.

Maine to pitch some relief, and promptly gives up a line hit to right that Nady plays into a double. Then walks Lee.

Can anybody here play this game,......this afternoon?

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 07:02 PM

Maine with a behind the back web gem-
snags the grounder behind him and turns it into a DP.
Nice.

Almost makes watching the rest of this game worthwhile.

Zvon
Jul 15 2006 07:09 PM

....almost.

Dempster puts me out of my misery with a 1-2-3 ninth.

What started out as a pitching duel, turned into one of those games youd just as soon forget- everything simply turned against the Mets.

I blame Murton, and that at bat he worked off Bradford.
That turned the tide.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 15 2006 07:27 PM

This game just kept falling apart, the more I read the IGT, the more I wished I had never started doing so. The ending really sucked.

Frayed Knot
Jul 16 2006 02:32 PM

Ugly game - but also a weird one.
I don't think I've ever seen a team bat around in consecctive innings while only hitting one, or maybe two, balls hard the entire time as the Cubbies did. Not that we deserved to win or anything but every grounder they hit found a hole, every bouncer went over an infielder, every tweener was justbeyond some fielder's reach, yyybbb. The Hank White (Henry Blanco) 2B was maybe the only hard hit ball and who knows what happens if Endy doesn't lose that leadoff fly in the sun. Can't blame him but that changed the entire game.

Nymr83
Jul 16 2006 03:29 PM

]Can't blame him but...

sure you can. and if we werent 10 games up i'm sure alot of people would be blaming him right now.

Frayed Knot
Jul 16 2006 08:57 PM

OK, people COULD blame him if they really want ... but it would be really stupid to do so.
