Uh, I'm going to guess thats a typo at Yahoo Sports and Reyes is not the 134th Met Thirdbaseman...yet.

Especially considering he is in the 5 hole

Okay, Im chucklin'-

Chucklin' at that ESPN Cubs opening to the game too-

"...the transporter will be developed before the Cubs win it all again."

Zvon
Jul 16 2006 06:09 PM

Mets sent Owens down right after yesterdays game.
I was a bit surprised.

Zvon
Jul 16 2006 06:20 PM

Mets get a break on Woodwards pop up, which gets lost between 2nd and center and falls in for a single, but the Mets can't capitalize on it.

Beltraan and Degado fly out and ground out.

ElDouque to take the mound at Wrigley.

Zvon
Jul 16 2006 06:24 PM

Suddenly Pierre plays like he should have all season-
singles to lead off the game and immediatly steals second.

Zvon
Jul 16 2006 06:29 PM

Barrett doubles home Pierre with a shot down the 3rd baseline.

1-0 Cubs.

Zvon
Jul 16 2006 06:33 PM

Floyd cant make the play on Ramirez's drive to the ivy in left-
Barrett scores- Ramirez pulls into second with a double.

I would have thought the shadows would favor ElDuke at games start-
not the case.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 16 2006 06:34 PM

El Duque is pitching pretty pukey this evening :(

ScarletKnight41
Jul 16 2006 06:39 PM

Tomorrow is an off day. El Duque is ineffective, to say the least.

Oliver, Heilman - get ready! You're each pitching three innings today.

ScarletKnight41 wrote:

At this point I think he's trying to be too dileberate.
So of course, he walks Mabry and that bastage Murton.

Hes gotta get out of it here-close the door here-pull the string-
any more cliches?

Damn! They had the bastage Murton picked off and dont get the call!
UGH.

Zvon
Jul 16 2006 06:43 PM

After all that the Cubs only end up plating 2.

Could have been way worse.
And i would think your right SK-
getting 4 innings out of Hernandez would be nice.

According to CBSsl he threw 42 pitches that inning.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 16 2006 06:52 PM

Lovely - the pitcher homers against El Puque.

Oliver - get in there NOW!!!

Zvon
Jul 16 2006 06:52 PM

And that lil knat Pierre singles.

...any more cliches?

I kid.
This is dismal.

In a new low for drivel, the ESPN crew is speculating that El Duque's problems stem from his psychological distaste for throwing to a catcher named Castro.

Turning? (sl=1000) (sarcastic look)

It was heaping piles of poo out of the gate.
lol.

Thats all for ElDouque.

He cant get out of the 2nd and the Cubs have scored 3 more.

Zvon
Jul 16 2006 07:13 PM

I left out the word steaming---

perponderous piles of steaming poo.

Oliver does his job.
Inning over (fiiiiinally).

5-0--that aint allAdat.
Winds blowing out at Wrigley- the Mets are still in this.

They just have to start lighting up that Cubbie pitcher Marshall like an Xmas tree in the middle of July.

Zvon
Jul 16 2006 07:16 PM

And suddenly Marshall looks like Kerry Wood in his rookie year.

An 11 pitch, 2K inning.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 16 2006 07:20 PM

And the Cubs get a lead off single.

Sheesh - this is a stinker!

ScarletKnight41
Jul 16 2006 07:25 PM

The Cubs actually fail to score in the third, stranding runners on second and third.

ScarletKnight41
Jul 16 2006 07:27 PM

Well, there you go.

Orlando Hernandez was acquired when a series of injuries --- Bannister, Maine, Zambrano, and Fortunato --- left the Mets in need of a pitcher to take a big chunk of innings from their depleted staff, and when October baseball was hardly as likely as it is now.

Back to the game. I'm trying to get office work done at home. I glanced at the score after two innings and thought (1) the Mets are going to win anyhow, and (2) "Sean Marshall, Cliff Floyd is going to hurt you."

The best thing about this game (in addition to the monster comeback of course) is that it's delaying the telecast of their precious ESPYs.
The over/under for in-game mentions that the ESPY telecast (which is on tape btw) was airing after the game was 85. I bet the over and am looking to clean up big time.

Oh No. Not Aaron Heilman.

Ah, right.

I hate to say so, but you need to come up with an acronym that sticks in people's minds more clearly.

We are amusing ourselves at the concept of all of these people sitting and waiting for the ESPY Awards to begin. It serves ESPN right to schedule their self-lovefest immediately after a live sporting event.

Heath Bell, up for Owens and in for Heilman.

ScarletKnight41

It's a safe enough lead that they're letting Thick Legged Heath Bell pitch!

Fact of the day - Heath Bell's cousin Drake stars in "Drake and Josh" on Nickelodeon.

Is that Glendon Rusch?

I thought his cheeks only got blotchy when he was pitching for NY.

Catro leads off the ninth with a line drive to the base of the left field wall and ends up with a single. Now those are some serious wheels.

Sanchez strikes out the side swinging in the ninth.

Mets win 13-7. This game was a polar opposite of yesterday's.

Sanchez Ks the side and the Mets pull the cubbie thorn out of their side.

Pretty decent game, huh?

Very few hitters are as fun to watch when they're going good as Clifford.
Be nice if he stays on track for a while.
Be even nicer if we could get Delgado back also.

Good Times Roll
(Nasty/McQuickly)
from the Parlourphone LP "Sgt. Rutter's Only Darts Club Band" PCS-7027, 6/1/67
Lead Vocal: Ron Nasty

Hour after hour in an ivory tower
A thousand and nothings to do
Spending the day in a colourful way
Blue upon blue upon blue
Psychadelicatessen
Fricasse chorus girls thigh
Toffee and mackeral gateau
Pineapple pie in the sky

See how the good times roll
See how the good times roll
See how the good times roll away
See how the good times roll
See how the good times roll
See how the good times roll away

Like ice in a drink
invisible ink
or dreams in the cold light of day
The children of rock 'n roll
never grow old
They just fade away
Drifting along on a cotton wool cloud
dreaming of drum majorettes
Swastika nightingales croon tongue in cheek
an elephant never forgets

See how the good times roll
See how the good times roll
See how the good times roll away
See how the good times roll
See how the good times roll
See how the good times roll away

(fades)
