Reyes return. Heh, only a few years back morons on WFAN and ESPN Radio would have suggested Reyes would be sidelined for the year and it was a career threatning injury! "Oh but he won't be able to grip the bat right!"

What?

Elster88
Jul 18 2006 07:02 PM

Keith said that Reyes has "vowed never to slide head-first again". I think he must have meant into first.

Yeah I think he meant into first base, we'll see how long that lasts, sounds like an easy bet to win with reyes.

Is reminiscing about what morons might have called radio stations about
two years ago less moronic that the act of reminising about these things in
an IGT on the internet? Just asking.

Golly, I hope I spelled reminiscing right or I'm gonna look all doody-headed.

Reyes' last swing looked awful, but maybe I only think that because he popped up.

13 pitches to the first two hitters, so far.

First and third with two out: HELL of a stop by LoDuca. The curve was literally five feet outside. Lo Duca caught it on one hop cleanly to save a run.

And the runner on first was stealing so Lo Duca was preparing to hop up. Great play that would never be remembered, but for the Crane Pool IGTs.

LoDuca drops a foul pop leaning over the railing into the Red dugout. That runner got on base, and moved to second on a tapper. As Bradford gets pulled by Willie, LoDuca apologized to him. He also apologized to Pelfrey before for not blocking a wild pitch. What a nice man.

I know Dunn and Junior are coming up, but did he really need to pull Bradford with a five run lead and two out? I guess if Dunn homers then it's a 3-run game.

Though I was about to remark how little the bunt accomplished that inning except create the very clutch situation they spoke of. Moments before Keith was telling us Marrerro's sac bunt was an example of "the little things the Mets do to win."

you were right. if we'd released him at the time i'd have to think he'd be unable to find an immediate MLB job and would have to hit at AAA for someone to get another shot.
he's been hitting very well lately, but i think he's over his head and i pray that we look for a 2Bman (though not before we shore up the rotation) this offseason.

]There were two on and two out in the fifth inning Tuesday night, and Mike Pelfrey was one errant pitch from walking the Reds slugger Adam Dunn to load the bases for Ken Griffey Jr. Pelfrey had thrown four consecutive fastballs, the last three out of the strike zone, but he needed to clear his head before rifling his fifth.

So he bent to retie the laces on his right shoe, spending about 20 seconds. Then, with similar care, he got Dunn to foul off another fastball, then wave at a sailing 96-mile-an-hour heater to end the threat

Gary and Keith talked about the laces too, and compared it to Franco tying his on the mound all the time.

Elster88
Jul 19 2006 09:04 AM

]Facing a daunting lineup (the Reds lead the National League in homers) at a hitter-friendly stadium, Pelfrey allowed seven hits — all singles — and permitted only two fly balls. He walked three and struck out three while throwing 98 pitches (he threw 104 in five innings in his last start) in making the sort of progress the Mets anticipated and Pelfrey expected.
