Blue Jays designate unhappy Hillenbrand TORONTO -- Shea Hillenbrand was cut by the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night after he was chastised during a team meeting and he refused to sit in the dugout with his teammates. Hours before, Hillenbrand criticized the organization and said he expected to be traded. The designated hitter and corner infielder was upset because he wasn't in the starting lineup for the second consecutive game and nobody in Toronto's front office congratulated him on adopting a baby girl last weekend. The Blue Jays held a meeting before Wednesday night's 5-4 loss to Texas. Hillenbrand, reached by the Toronto Star during the game, said manager John Gibbons admonished him in front of the team. "Gibby called a team meeting and then he stood up and reamed me out in front of my teammates," Hillenbrand told the newspaper. "I'm very disappointed about what he did and I find it very unprofessional." Hillenbrand was designated for assignment during the game and was not in the locker room afterward. "They wonder why they are not winning," said Hillenbrand, who through Tuesday is hitting .301 with 12 homers and 38 RBI. "It's the atmosphere."

In other games: - Yanx lose to Seattle despite another good game from Unit - BoSox throw 2nd consect 1-0 shutout at the Royals - Jays, preparing to host the Yanx for 4 games, lose to Texas - Angels finally lose and Lackey's consec innings streak is over - Clemens out-duels Maddux (with a lot of help from his pen) - Turnbow blows his [u:7ec05e4502]8th[/u:7ec05e4502] save of the year as the Giants come from behind and stay on the outskirts of both the NLWest & WC races - Braves losing (4-1) to StL in another game delayed long time by rain.

Heard the back to back 1-0 Bosdton games was the first time that's happened since 1916, or something. Castilla was also released today. Lots of veteran third sackers cut loose now that Wright has heralded the new golden age.

It really is the oddest thing Ive seen happen this year in MLB, and theres been some odd stuff. They got 10 days to trade him.
