Mets go 1-2-3 in the top

Freel - CF
Denorfia - RF
Dunn - LF
Aureilia - 1B
Encarnacion - 3B
Phillips - 2B
Clayton -SS
LaRue -C
Arroyo - P

... and Glavine retires them 1-2-3 on 8 pitches

Cliff wants to tell the CPF: "KABOOM"

FK, I can't see any graphics on this PC (lazy browser).
But the words about Cliff came through loud and clear.
Thanks,

Well maybe you can't see them because I didn't put up any graphics.

Reds get back-to-back 1-out singles from Encarnacion & Phillips but no runs in their half of the 2nd.

Boston fans want to play the "Arroyo's only pitching well because he's in the National League" card.

But when you strike out Beltran, Delgado, and Wright back-to-back-to-back, you're pretty fucking good.

I hate intentional walks. They're fascist.

Willets Point
Jul 20 2006 02:19 PM

Fan interference and Aurillia brainfarting on the basepath help get the Mets out of this inning unscathed. This could have been a MUCH uglier inning.

seawolf17
Jul 20 2006 02:20 PM

Was that a bases-loaded bunt? Is Arroyo drunk, or did the ESPN GameCast just not call that one correctly?

Willets Point
Jul 20 2006 02:23 PM

'Twas a bases loaded bunt. Oddly Castro went for the tag even though there was a force play at the plate.

Actually that's a third thing that worked in the Mets favor to getting out of the inning. Remember this before you drench Glavine with Schaefer tonight.

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 20 2006 02:28 PM

Mets down in order in the 7th, still 2-2.

Castro made the last out, so this will probably be Glavine's last inning.

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 20 2006 02:30 PM

Freel leads off with a double. It may take some doing now for Glavine to even finish the inning.

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 20 2006 02:31 PM

Now a bunt. Go-ahead run on third with one out.

Off the top of my head, right now, I'd say Sanchez, Bradford, Oliver, Wagner, Heilman.

The ace who keeps loading the bases. It would be nice if the batters could find a way to score other than home runs too. You can live well and die miserable on a home run offense.

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 20 2006 02:51 PM

Endy singles in the 8th, but nobody else does anything and the Mets fail to score.

Still 2-2, last of the 8th.

Sanchez next?

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 20 2006 02:54 PM

Nope, it's Heilman.

Elster88
Jul 20 2006 02:54 PM

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 20 2006 02:54 PM

Clayton leads off with a single.

Gotta hold them here, Aaron!

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 20 2006 02:55 PM

Arroyo on deck.

A bunting situation will keep him in the game. Let's get a double play here.

Edgy DC
Jul 20 2006 02:56 PM

Speaking of high-leverage innings, It's generally better to use your top reliever in a tied game, or even a game with a one-run defecit, than to use him with a three-run lead.

seawolf17
Jul 20 2006 02:57 PM

But then he can't get a save, Edgy. And isn't that really what it's all about?

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 20 2006 02:59 PM

LaRue does the bunting, gets the runner to second.

Baby Brother Valentin hits for Arroyo.

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 20 2006 03:01 PM

Valentin grounds to third, runner doesn't advance.

Two outs.

Yancy Street Gang

Guardado to face Delgado, Wright, and Floyd.

This looks like our chance here.

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 20 2006 03:09 PM

Anybody else here?

Delgado flies out, then Wright doubles.

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 20 2006 03:11 PM

Floyd whiffs.

It's up to Big Brother Valentin to drive in the run.

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 20 2006 03:11 PM

He doesn't. He grounds to short instead.

Another inning for Heilman? I say, why not?

Yancy Street Gang

The throw by Castro was offline and to the shortstop side of the bag. Valentin had to pick it on the shorthop and then quickly slap the tag down on the other side of the bag, which he did beautifully. It was a bang-bang play as the baseball announcers say and even Keith thought he might've been in there. Great play by Valentin either way.

Pop-up into shallow right field. Phillips pulled up as Chris "Criminal Intent" Denorfia called him off. Denorfia beat wasn't as good as he thought it was and he dove and came up short. Nady wasn't trucking it all that hard around first, but even if he was, it would've been real tough to end up at third.

Earlier in the year it was a flood, and now a drought.
