Well not really. But when I read the attached article yesterday (in USA Today) I had similar concerns as he did on his radio rant this morning. http://www.goveg.com/f-topballparks06.asp If I'm at the ballpark, its bad enough somebody is carrying hot dogs dripping mustard past me as they squeeze by to their seats. But stay away from my crotch with that hot soup, buddy. His rant was more extensive, priceless. Anyone else hear it? Later

I heard it this morning on the way to work. All I could think of was, WOW! It must be a really slow national sports day if they let him spend 12 minutes on this subject. It's nice to know beer is veggie-friendly. I'll take some edamame and a veggie baguette please.

that "mike on mike" show's a disaster. they spent 12 minutes the day before on whether mike (xs) is a good daddy or not. way too much caffeine.

The show's better during football season...the rest of the year, it's just a Sportcenter anchor and a guy that knows football spouting recycled garbage. I'd like it better if Greenberg wasn't a shameless Yankees/Jets fan, because that is where all discussions tend to lead.

I laughed my ass off at the discussion this morning. When they had the snippet from "Beauty and the Beast" cued up, I nearly drove off the road. I really enjoy them. I feel like they do a little too much "coming up" ("When we return from the break, this exciting but topic that I'm going to be very vague about will be discussed!"), but I usually get a good laugh. The competitive eater interview they did last week was very funny also.

They're a pretty decent team entertainment wise in small doses. I watch it on the tube sometimes getting ready for work. I've ribbed Greenie twice on stuff he's said via email and he answered both times quickly with a good sense of humor even though I was right and he was wrong. I like the tv ad where he wears his high school tennis shirt to breakfast at the diner and how they get on each other about stupid stuff like eating too much - seems genuine and good natured to me for some reason.

Soupy, my comment was paraphrased from Golic's comments about the article that said that the SF ballpark sells two different kinds of vegetarian soup. His concern was getting it spilled in his lap by someone squeezing past him to get to their seat. I don't know about anyone else, but that person is going to spill/ drip something on me I'd certainly rather it be some hot dog mustard or a cold drink rather than hot soup. BTW- he was still talking about ballpark food today. He wove it inot a conversation with Yanks GM Brian Cashman. Cashman got into the spirit and said he preferred ballpark food with fat in it, but after "ten years of two hot dogs a game for 81 home games a season" he "can't look at another hot dog". Edgy - Golic's overall theme was that, (as a hirstute, meat eating ex-NFL player) he wouldn't even consider eating all the non-meat items sold. And he admitted that he hadn't even heard of some of the dishes on the SF list. He also added that "I don't want to wait in line for my hot dogs and beer while somebody is deciding which type of soup they want." Golic's delivery and discussion with co-host Mike Greenberg was probably better then what was actually said. It was very funny. Later

So there's no reports of anybody spilling soup on anybody, but it's still fun to demonize a minority based on a hypothetical?

But isn't exaggeration a major component of comedy? Or finding humor in an every day situation (such as letting someone get past you to their seat)? I don't think there was any malice in what he said. I've been listening to the show for several years, and I don't think Golic has a malicious bone in his body. I've never heard him say anything bad about anybody. And he often goes off on funny rants about little things like this - just to set his partner off. It was stated more as amazement about those other foods. I guess unless you have heard his exchanges with Mike Greenberg before, you wouldn't get this type of typical interplay between the macho ex-jock and the self-admitted Metrosexual Greenberg (who freely admitted that he not only knew how to pronounce the vegetarian dishes, but eats them frequently. Well, I'm sure they have a lot of fun playing their roles. There are plenty of hirsute ex-NFL players who are vegetarians, though. I imagine some active ones as well.

Later You know the truely funny thing about the roles they play on the show is that it is the opposite of what they enjoy doing in their spare time. Golic is not that big of a sports fan (most players generally aren't) and loves spending time watching TV with the family, usually "chick flicky" type shows like American Idol and sappy dramas like Ed, to Greenie's consternation as Greenberg truely has no use for pop-culture and cares little about gossipy issues Golic brings up on the show. Greenie is quite an obessive football/Jet fan and acts like the typical sports fan on the show and often will act quite manly when discussion fandom and sports issues. The only pop-culture thing Greenie seems to "enjoy" is popular kid related stuff like The Wiggles but thats because his daughter is really into them Just an oddity I guess

For some reason that I can't recall, I listened to those two guys during the 2000 postseason. After a few weeks I had my fill of them and haven't been back.

My implication was that Golic speaks for himself, and not "as a hirstute, meat eating ex-NFL player." Many aren't meat-eating. One: Michael Vick. I have no idea how hairy he is. He's got a full head of hair and usually wears a beard, though.

BTW just remembered one thing about Greenberg, a trait he shares with alot of broadcasters (and writers as well) is a need to rush to calling something "The best ever" or "Worst ever" ect Probably best example of this, and in part I guess is blamed on the national media and the Red Sox pounding the Curse and how it was originally connected to the Yankees and how the Yankees had 26 championships since 1918 to the Sox' none, but the day after Game 7 of the ALCS Greenie declared the Curse was DEAD! Naturally Sox Nation, and everyone who ever heard of the Curse, called and emailed saying Greenie was nuts since the Curse was tied into winning a World Championship, it had nothing to do with beating the Yankees, after all 7 times since 1918 the Sox finished in first in the same league/division that the Yanks were in. Also to this end, I forget who it was, but some FOX guy was doing a Man In The Stands interview with this old lady in Fenway in one of the first two games of the World Series and he asked her if she ever thought the Sox would be this close to winning a World Series! Geez...
