Weekend Question - If You Owned the Mets

If you owned the Mets, what would be the first (baseball related*) thing you would do? What else would be on your to-do list?

* = things like buying a yacht because it means you're a multi-millionaire don't count.

Try and hire back Valentine .

First, I'd get rid of the alternate jerseys and crap. Blue hat, pinstriped uni. The end.

Second, I'd announce that we're naming the new ballpark Bob Murphy Stadium.

Third, I'd drag Jose Lima up from Norfolk, whack him around for dishonoring the uniform number, then retire Keith Hernandez's 17.

I would fire Charlie Samuels for that.

theres a lot of choices, i think i'd start with seeing Wright and his agent were amenable to a deal that gave him security (read: gauranteed $$) in exchange for the first 2 years of what would have been free agency.

That's what I was going to say. I'd immediately lock Wright into a 15 year contract.

Give a large sum of money to some lackey who will, under my direction, buy the Florida Marlins. I will then aquire Willis, Miguel Cabrera, and Dan Uggla for Jose Lima.

I'd jump right in on the stadium planning, and put my imprint on it (whatever that imprint might be) before things progress too far.

The whole Ebbets Field thing would end immediately.

Also, the black caps and jerseys wouldn't be eliminated, but their usage would be greatly reduced. Maybe for weekday day games, or Sunday night games.

If Charles Wang were the owner he'd make Ramon Castro the GM.

I'd move the Mets to Kansas City if I owned them.

I would grab a bat and take BP.

Depending on how well that went, I may or may not put myself in the lineup tonight.

I'd put up a picture of Joan Payson alongside the retired numbers.

I'd steal a page from my cross-town rival owner's book and eat a calzone.

I'd hire ex yankees beacuse they'd bring that winning tradition with them, oh and I'd try and move the team to the West Side.

I would move the owner's box to the outfield side of the Mets dugout - better camera angle...

I forgot; I would also appoint myself first-base coach for life. What a cool job.

1. 17, and 8 would be retired.
2. Blue caps and pinstripes every day at home.
3. Blue caps and road grays every day on the road.
4. bring back banner day
5. weeknight games - upperdeck reserved half price for walk up sales...
