Two bands I never liked much, it's hard to vote. Interesting fact I should have included, copied directly form Wikipedia: ]Drummer Artimus Pyle crawled out of the plane wreckage with several broken ribs, yet ran nearly a mile to a farmhouse to try to get help. The farmer Johnny Mote, on first seeing the wild-haired blood- and mud-encrusted drummer babbling incoherently, greeted him with a (fortunately non-fatal) shotgun blast to his shoulder. Only when Mote realized that this person was connected with the plane crash he had just heard did he call for help.

"I Know a Little" vs. "Day After Day" “I Know” has that seventies Aerosmith funk but “Day After Day” makes me stop what I’m doing. Pretenders "What's Your Name?" vs. "Tattooed Love Boys*" Pretenders. Name one other rock song that kicks your butt like this in 15/16 time. "The Ballad of Curtis Loew" vs. "Middle of the Road" I can’t take it. “Loew” s OK. That harmonica waxes the Loew guitar lick. I can’t explain it except to say “Brrr…neow! Pretenders. "Saturday Night Special" vs. "Back on the Chain Gang" A great vocal trumping raw rock here, Click that video, yo. "Call Me the Breeze" vs. "Mystery Achievement*" I’m not a big Motown man, but I know what they were doing, making midtempo compositions into dance songs, not by speeding them up, but having a really good drummer go down like a metronome on the snare four times every measure. That’s what Martin Chambers does in “Mystery Achievement,” and the bass and drums are… relentless. Pretenders. The protagonist is probably a southern boy with sun-bleached hair, but a like to think of him as glammy rocker with a fay dye job that plays on stage but gets snickered at in more realistic dye jobs like at the road house with Linda Lou. "Sweet Home Alabama" vs. "My City Was Gone" Pleas from Ronnie and Chrissie for what they believe in about the place they’re from. Can you say one is more valid than another? Tie. This is what this challenge is to me. Skynyrd is not a favorite of mine. At all. But I appreciate the chance to give them a deeper reading. It’s like Warren Zevon said… reconsider me. That's all. Pretenders win it 7.5-2.5.

I knew this would be a tough match for Skynyrd to win, but I never envisioned the completely lopsided route this match turned out to be.. Chrissie and the Pretenders put a major ass kickin' on the southern boys. I think I may need to go hang out on a Braves website for Lynyrd Skynyrd to have a shot at a victory. Good show, JD.
