Buchholz vs. El Duque.

Coming down pretty hard right now. I'm not sure they get this one in.

There's some ugly weather heading towards Queens.

Perhaps we'll have a doubleheader tomorrow.

Mr.G just said the game should get going about 8pm.

In that case, the game will go on.

I love Mr. G.

Laughing At The Rain
by Stranglers
album: Stranglers In The Night (1992)

I see a face, a shade of grey
When you're in this game
It's if the price you pay
Hey what's it all about anyway?

When you're losing sleep
'cause the ghosts won't hide
If you can't compete
Take a walk outside
Shame do you think that you can
Pick up all the pieces

You say the sun don't shine
That's when you'll find me
Laughing at the rain

Just like a dice the big wheel spins
I'm telling you now that there's
Nothing to gain
If you lose or you win
Relax there's nothing you can do
About it anyway

Well there's an open road
If you don't look back
So forget your bets and get on that track
Hey you haven't got the time to waste

Repeat chorus

A word with the leader at token of faith
But just by the look you've got
Nothing to show
For the prayers you gave
Angel you haven't got the strength to fly
Bye bye

You've got broken wings
But they will heal in time
So let me take you down
Where the sun don't shine

Laughing at the rain
Laughing at the rain
Oh I wish it would rain
Oh I wish it would rain

1st inning was a good start as Maine gets em 1-2-3, on 6 pitches.

Reyes Ks, LoDuca lines out to left and Beltran lines out to right center in the Mets half.

Muggy out--should be a good night for hitters.

0-0 after one.

Duque needs more rest?

Not that I mind the best chance to win tonight.

Phils are playing the Braves in Philly-

They are knotted at 2-2.

Maine has a nice second frame, striking out two Asstros.
Huffs single the only blemish.

Mets have the meat of the order up in the 2nd.

The way he was sweating in Chicago--I thought they just needed an extra day to air out his uniform.

Delgado starts the inning with a lead off walk.

i thought i remembered an interview with maine where he talked about how he didnt have a ton of velocity and had to really be a control artist, but it looks like he can hit the mid 90's nowadays. maybe he made some changes to his motion or somethin.

Wright follows with a single up the middle.
1st and 2nd for Cliffy.

Floyd with the good eye works the count to 3 and 2 and-
wow- then hits into a sure double play to 1st.

But Wrights called safe at 2nd - Everett off the bag - they dont get Cliff at 1st.
Everybodys safe.

Maine with a nice little lead.

I love watching Beltraan track a fly ball.
He's just so smoooooooth.

Asstros go down in order in the 3rd.

4-0 Metsies.

the heavy air helped that - I think it would have been out of his reach on almost any other night...

Zvon
Jul 21 2006 09:08 PM

And Cliffy just misses one - hits a drive foul into the 2nd deck in right.
Man he drove that.
Ends up poppin out.

It sure is good having Floyd back, and playing great to boot.

If he stays healthy and plays like this----yikes.
I pity the NL East.

Nady rips a double down the 3rd baseline and maine will try for his 1st MLB hit--or walk--Ill take a walk.

I love this lineup!

Imagine what they could do if everyone was healthy and all at their A game at the same time...I don't think we've even seen that yet.

But with Delgado and Floyd looking like they are coming around...we could see the full power of this offense pretty soon.

Cool.

Merengue Night at Shea!

It's always fun at Merengue Night. Real party atmosphere. I think they had close to a sell-out -- the Loge and Mezzanine were full, the upper deck filled in pretty well, lots of people arriving near the actual start of the game.

Jose Reyes was clearly the fan favorite tonight but they warmed up to Valentin pretty quickly too.

Heath Bell threw in the 'pen in the 9th but there wasn't really any doubt that Maine would finish it.

Only downside about Maine: he looks completely lost at the plate. Like, even worse than Pedro.

When Maine started strong -- ie. the 6 pitches in the first, etc. -- it was starting to get electric at Shea. You could just sense something (ie. the Valentin slam) coming...(I thought it was going to be Cliff with the Kaboom).

Great game, probably the most fun I've had at Shea all year.

Amazing game. Good thread. I like our team boatloads.

Houston's offense ain't exactly good, but Maine still looked pretty solid out there. Maine's surpising season line is now:

26 IP, 3.12 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 20 K, 7 BB, 4 HR
