IGT - Astros at Mets - 7/22/06
ScarletKnight41 Jul 22 2006 01:18 PM |
The game is delayed due to rain. Fox Sports estimates that the delay will be less than an hour. In the meantime, they're helping us to know our upcoming enemy by showing us the Cubs game in DC as our Rain Delay Theater.

Joe Buck is a bit of a weenie. And McCarver is played.

The game is afoot.

A Berkman blast for 2 Houston runs--not a good start for ElDuke
|
duan Jul 22 2006 02:30 PM |
that was a MONSTER
|
duan Jul 22 2006 02:31 PM |
preston's one not so much of a monster.
|
ScarletKnight41 Jul 22 2006 02:31 PM |
And there's another. 3-0 Houston.

So Backe's back and lets see how he looks.
|
Zvon Jul 22 2006 02:41 PM |
A walk to porno mustache cartoon chin and a wicked single ripped to right from Beltraan puts runners at the corners for the Mets.
|
Zvon Jul 22 2006 02:44 PM |
This should be an easy inning for Hernandez-
|
ScarletKnight41 Jul 22 2006 02:45 PM |
I hat El Puke.
|
Zvon Jul 22 2006 02:48 PM |
He allows a double to Everett.
|
OlerudOwned Jul 22 2006 02:48 PM |
The Duke is just washed up now, they can't trot him out there much longer.
|
Zvon Jul 22 2006 02:54 PM |
|
Not today, anyway. Would be nice to get four frames out of him. If he settles down maybe more. But Ill be pretty impressed if he settles down and gets thru 5. Especially if he keeps the Asstros in check during that time. This IS baseball though-it can happen. Mets gotta get some runs.
|
ScarletKnight41 Jul 22 2006 02:57 PM |
Neither team scored in the second - still 3-1.
|
Elster88 Jul 22 2006 02:59 PM |

Reyes called out stealing on what looks like a bad (but close) call.
|
OlerudOwned Jul 22 2006 03:10 PM |
BS call. Reyes had his hand an second and his elbow was already bent by the time he got tagged.
|
Zvon Jul 22 2006 03:11 PM |
UGH!

Elster88 Jul 22 2006 03:14 PM |

I'd argue that that is not a good idea.

Zvon Jul 22 2006 03:15 PM |
Fine catch by Berkman off Beltraan.
|
OlerudOwned Jul 22 2006 03:16 PM |
The only way I'd want to be between McCarver and Buck is if I was on fire and they were covered in gasoline.

Of course its not a good idea. Id still take flyouts to anywhere as opposed to what Im seeing now. 1st two Asstros reach on a boot and a bingle. But the Mets pull off the DP! BIG Ill take those all day too, if I have to.

Especially Meatloaf. And suddenly its Songs From The Seventies. Great album, Bat Out Of Hell, but I dont need to hear it during a Met game. Delgado will lead off- lets get something going. CarlosDee with the lead off walk. Cliffy up.
|
ScarletKnight41 Jul 22 2006 03:26 PM |
And now this half inning is interrupted by a BS interview.
|

|
TransMonk Jul 22 2006 03:57 PM |
El Duque dealing now...7 or 8 in a row. He's fanned 7 through 6 IP.
|
OlerudOwned Jul 22 2006 03:58 PM |
Just when we think Duckie's goose is cooked, he reels off 7 Ks, 8 straight batters retired, and finishes up 6 innings with a pitch count under 100.

I dont mind if said celebrity is a Met fan, like Sienfeld. Jerry actually rattled off some Met trivia--that was neat. But shameless plugs should be saved for the talk show circuit. (was Meatloaf plugging something? All I heard was blah,blah,blah--like when an adult talks on Peanuts)

He took some mighty swings there tho. Looks like Houston will once again go to the pen for Springer. 2 out 1st and 3rd, Mr. Franco to PH. The Mets are readying Wagner for the 9th.

Which means that there's some sort of cross-promotion deal working here. I said this before in another thread, but we can complain about FOX all we want I just think it's a bit naive to believe that if MLB handed the package to a different network that they wouldn't be doing pretty much the same sort of stuff, and promoting their tie-ins, and "finding" actors in the stands who just happen to be in a show on their network which debuts right after the World Series, and so on. The El Duque executioners were a bit premature today - and the old geezer may have saved hisself of job with today's outing. It would be nice to assume that the young'uns are going to improve with every start and that the aging end of the staff is going to remain healthy & happy from now until October ... but let's not be too eager to throw out servicable starting pitchers until we're sure that all of the above is true. P.S. Was thinking (at the time) about PH-ing Wright for Woodward in the 8th in that bases-loaded/2-outs/1-run lead situation. No doubt it gives you the better chance to widen the lead (and therefore win the game) and Willie didn't take it - even though Wright could just simply slot in for Woody in the field for the 9th. But you also don't want to discard guys like Woody by yanking them whenever the heat's turned up and a July game with a double-digit lead hardly qualifies as a do-or-die game. I agree with him sticking with Woody there.
|
Iubitul Jul 22 2006 08:00 PM |

One of the best concerts I ever saw was when I saw MeatLoaf at a hotel in Tipperary when I was about 16....the place held about 1000 people and it was an amazing show...me and my friends snuck in a flagan of cider each and got hammered......we still laugh about it.

Edgy DC Jul 22 2006 09:51 PM |
I doubt anybody --- with the possible exceptions of thee 1986 Mets and the 1970 Orioles --- ever approached the playoffs with the attitude that they had enough pitching. But what the Mets have now may have as good a chance of coming through in October as they would with anybody may be able to realsitcally obtain --- be he Barry Zito, Juan Brito, or Pedro Beato.
|
Elster88 Jul 22 2006 09:53 PM |

I loathe to say it, but some of those late nineties Yankee teams had good staffs. Especially after 97 when they knew they had Rivera.

Juan Brito would be the easiest to get, but he probably won't be much help unless they pull a Henry Owens on him.

I'm OK with AFoS. The Loaf has a history of being a big ball fan. He sang at an All Star game once and joked afterward that they had to invite him because John Kruk couldn't be there --- implying that there was some sort of Conservancy Law of Fat Guys with Mullets at work. I have no idea how distracting he was in the booth. Boy, the first page of this thread really has pitchforks and torches surrounding Castle Hernandez, doesn't it?
