Pelfrey is wearing a mouth guard?

Strange.

TransMonk
Jul 23 2006 01:17 PM

Pelfrey with a 1-2-3 first...2 Ks.

TransMonk
Jul 23 2006 01:26 PM

Mets 1st:

LoDuca rakes a double...Beltran walks...Delgado goes KABOOM!

Mets up 3-0 early.

Carlos is teaching us to do the mamba!

Maybe to keep from sticking out his tongue?

TransMonk
Jul 23 2006 01:38 PM

Apparently he has TMJ and his dentist wants him to wear it while he plays.

It's working as he get the Stros 1-2-3 in the 2nd with another K.

TransMonk
Jul 23 2006 01:53 PM

Astros get a run in the 3rd on a HBP, a hit and run that worked and a sac fly.

3-1 Good Guys moving to the bottom of 3.

Gary: Last player to hit 3 grand slams in a month (the ML record) was Mike Piazza in 1998.

Keith thinks the radar guns to gauge pitch speed read a little faster than they did in the 80's.

TransMonk
Jul 23 2006 02:08 PM

Mets leave 'em loaded in the 3rd as Valentin pops out.

TransMonk
Jul 23 2006 02:20 PM

Stros leave 'em loaded themselves in the top of the 4th.

My favorite umpire has dicked us twice
this weekend ...

TransMonk
Jul 23 2006 02:32 PM

Tie game.

Oswalt singles, Taveras doubles, Lamb singles.

Still no outs in the Astros 5th.

TransMonk
Jul 23 2006 02:39 PM

Berkman doubles. Stros now lead 4-3.

Pelfrey looked great his first time through the lineup, but his weakness is exposed the second and third times through. His changeup and curve are not hitting the strike zone. Probably going to be the knock on Mike for a while...until he can command those secondary pitches to compliment his heat, he's going to get beat the 2nd and 3rd time through batting orders.

TransMonk
Jul 23 2006 02:40 PM

Pelfrey out, Oliver in.

TransMonk
Jul 23 2006 02:47 PM

Stros add another on a single by Mookie's kid.

Final line on Pelfrey: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 2 HBP

Houston up 5-3 as we go to the bottom of 5.

Re: Pelfrey ... Darling commented several times about his form, shoulders
here and there, needs to be more liquid and free. I'm paraphrasing but a) I
dig listening to Ron break down the young pitchers and b) sounds like some-
thing that can certainly be overcome - this guy's got good stuff.

It was too much to ask both rooks to come out and wow us in one series.
Gotta be happy ... let's get the runs back.

Mets 5th:

LoDuca doubles again, Delgado walks, Floyd singles.

5-4 Stros after 5.

KC
Jul 23 2006 03:33 PM

Who da man?

Aaron da man ... strands 'stros on second and stird wis sno snouts!

Meaty part of the order coming up after Lazy Mary is sung and clapped to.

TransMonk
Jul 23 2006 03:35 PM

True dat...Heilman is back.

5-4 Houston at the stretch.

GYC
Jul 23 2006 04:03 PM

Trade Heilman NOW.

TransMonk
Jul 23 2006 04:04 PM

Game's falling apart now.

Stros score 2 insurance runs on some bad defense...LoDuca throws one into centerfield trying to throw out a basestealer...Heilman doesn't hustle to first to make the play on a comebacker. Heilman leaves to a chorus of boos.

7-4 Houston.

Yeah...not good. However, the replay shows he beat the runner.

doesn't matter - if he runs hard there's no contest.

Heilman should have just thrown the damn ball to first.

Yancy Street Gang
Jul 23 2006 04:16 PM

Did you notice Delgado tapping first base with his foot while Heilman was ambling over? I wonder if he was trying to decoy the runner into thinking he was already out and thereby slowing down? If so, that's nice quick thinking on Delgado's part.

Jul 23 2006 04:18 PM

I noticed that Yancy, my thought was that Carlos was wondering why Heilman was not throwing the ball...

Mets lose. For the record, I think Heilman can still be a big part of the bull-
pen if he'd pull his ass out of his head and think team. This team can af-
ford a head case or two, just like any family, org, or forum for that matter.

I think and hope that Heilman just jogged his way into a trade.

Nice day for a ball game for the first few innings.
Pelfrey looked great, Delgado hits a bomb, hip hip hooray.

Then Pelfrey lost the strike zone. My seat got less comfortable. The food started to taste bad. The humidity rose. Blech.

The only thing that kept the crowd awake was Heilman, who sent half of them home and gave the rest an excuse to exercise their vocal chords.

What you said.

BTW, I was in Loge section 10 reserves, was it me or did it seem Shea had more foot traffic than normal, like people still looking for their seats in the 4th, ect

Didn't seem like a "normal fan" kind of crowd

There was definately a Dodger crowd today, a lot of people coming for 5 innings of mid-game baseball.

Iu: >>>I think and hope that Heilman just jogged his way into a trade.<<<

He's worth more to the Mets to turn it around and contribute than what he'll
bring trade wise ... lose the hate.

ScarletKnight41

This was a frustrating game to attend. The polar opposite of yesterday - today we had the lead and just gave it back. Blech.

But MK was on the field before the game for the National Anthem, and we snuck out of the picnic area to see Greg in the late innings, so there were some good memories of the day, despite the suckitude on the field.

That homer by Delgado was a thing of beauty!

I can't - I just can't. He has been bugging me all year - I just want to get rid of him...

He may very well be traded, and I'm not opposed to cutting bait at this point
I guess, but what the heck could he fetch? I think a lot of his problem is - and
I'm breaking no new ground here - between his ears.

I just saw the Heilman lollyjog.

damn---thats embarrassing.
Thats inexcusable---

Im not calling for his head or anything, but I sure would like to get his ear.

I was just yelling at him, "Bad Aaron, Bad!" like I was disciplining a puppy or something. It was unbelievable watching that play!

HaHaHa---I think my words to him might involve a little more language.

Like "What the f**k were you thinkin man!"

He even slowed down as he ran like he was already past the finish line.

I was sitting next to MK at the time - it took everything in me to limit it to the puppy training scolding.

Where were you guys sitting?

BTW, in addition to the Dodger-esque late arrivals/early departures, the empty seats next to me were taken up twice by people! Well there were also two kids trying to sneak a closer look for a minute I guess.

I guess Loge is closest you can get sans a field ticket but it does get interesting. One couple (man and woman) sat down during Pelfrey's meltdown and I was on the verge of saying that I was putting the inning squarely on their heads! But I remembered the last time I did that to a complete stranger (socialite told someone in my party to shut me up) so I decided to keep my mouth shut (maybe I'll put that in the things I didn't say thread in NBF)

Next time in Aug for the 1986 reunion and then some October Baseball

We started out in the picnic area, but at that point we had moved to the upper deck, first base side.

Not only an ugly game but about 3-1/2 hours worth of ugly.
Games like that are tough to watch even if you're winning.

The Heilman play is an example of where I think it's not only appropriate to boo your own man - but virtually mandatory!
On the other hand if you went dumping a player every time he made a dumb play you'd have no one left after a short time.
