Getting swept by the Cubs at home would be barely a blip on the radar, but would be annoying nonetheless.

The Daily News has been flashing back to the 1986 season.

Twenty years ago today, the Mets lost both ends of a doubleheader to the Braves. I'll bet some of today's fans panicked just reading that. I sure hope that that sweep doesn't place the 1986 championship in jeopardy.

On the good karma side, first thing this morning I selected shuffle songs on my iPod and the 86 anthem "Lets Go Mets" came on first.

Leadoff walk for Pierre, but Castro throws him out attempting to steal second.

Probably my favortie uni combo is the solid white with blue caps.

I've been meaning to compile a win-loss record according to the different uni combos. Not that it matters, but thought it might be interesting.

Is that the real Mark Prior, actually pitching and not on the DL?

Yancy Street Gang

One out walk for Endy.

I don't mind the solid white uniforms, although I prefer the pinstripes.

The solid whites look pretty good with the black crown/blue brimmed caps.

You know, that really gave Cone the "Hired Gun" rep, kind of hard to put the label on a guy that was traded three times and tended to want to stay with the teams he signed with, if they didn't trade him away (Royals twice, Mets, and Blue Jays) Cone kind of had a steady career of movement

I complained a month or so ago that there was too much pbp and not enough color.

Races to see who starts the thread are always a bad sttart, leading to races to see who can report first what we're all watchingt, to races to see who can post Kapooties first.

Be best, not first.

Be deep, not broad.

More why and how, less what.

The Mets have now defied the odds for almost 45 full seasons. And now, any no-hitter short of a perfect game will seem anti-climactic.

Sure, assuming the everything-stays-the-same principle.

The umps have some discretion when invoking the IFR.
The rule reads something on the order of easily fielded by an infielder. I've never seen it NOT called due to weather either.

In fact, the first time I ever remember the call being invoked was on a windy day in Candlestick when Buddy Harrelson missed it due to wind.
I didn't know the rule up to that point and treated this newly found treasure as if a reprieve from the Governor.
