Weekend Review

Frayed Knot
Jul 30 2006 10:03 PM

- Tigers continued to put a stranglehold on the ALCentral. This time they cooled off the Twins by taking 2 of 3.

- Pale Hose - who got swept by those Twins earlier in the week - took 2 of 3 from the O's but were poised for a sweep until closer Jenks blew a save in Sunday's game.

- On the other side of Chicago, the Cubbies took [u:eb7c4d4cfd]4 straight[/u:eb7c4d4cfd] from the Cards, helping us in two ways:
1) we don't feel as bad for losing 2 of 3 to them
2) solidifies our shot at 'best record in NL' for the year

- Tampa lost 2 of 3 to Yanx and, in a bit of a coincidence (but not irony Alanis), put both Kazmir & Wigginton on the DL at the same time.

- Jays lost 2 of 3 to the A's and slip 5 behind the MFY.
They had Sunday's game in the bag until BJ Ryan served up a 3R walk-off to Milton Bradley. Tough day for closers.

- Clemens left with a slim lead Sunday but the Astro set-up guys blew the lead and then Lidge blew the game. What a tail-spin for Lidge, the guy can't do anything right now!!

- BoSox & Angels split the first two. Now Schilling is getting smacked around in the Sunday night game ... but the Sox are coming back.

BoSox lose the Sunday night game. With the loss, their record falls a half a game below the Mets. The Mets now have the second best record in all of baseball behind the Tigers.

Not that it matters in terms of seeding for the playoffs, but I'd still like the Mets to at least have the second best record in baseball this year. Having 3 teams in the AL with better records than the NL leading Mets would just make for a horrible media subplot for our boys should they make the playoffs this year.
