Last night they were talking about LoDuca's thumb, and though it's really bothering him, he won't get it checked out because he says he's not coming out anyway.

I'm all for the old school tough guy thing, but not even getting it looked at seems pretty idiotic to me. It could be something a week or two will heal, and considering the lead, it would be dumb not to sit him down. And if it shows it's something that won't go away with a little rest, at least they'll know what they're up against and if by playing he risks injuring it further.

Remember, this guy is under contract for next season too. I say get it checked.

He's going to need surgery on the thumb, and he'll need a long recovery period after that. If he has the surgery now, he's gone for the rest of the season.

I think we're better off letting him play through the pain as long as possible, and then have the surgery after the season.

And we know that how if he hasn't had it checked?

I thought Paulie was a freebird after this year.

Come on he's a New Yorker.....I'm sure it has been checked out and that Lo Duca and the team Doctors along with Willie and Omar know what's going on, you would think that anyway.

I voted option 1. As CF said, it may be something that can be healed with rest. I wouldn't mind seeing Lo Duca miss two or three weeks if it means he'll be healthy in October. If the diagnosis is surgery, THEN he can opt to tough it out.

Let Lo Duca have surgery. Trade for Piazza.

PLoD comes back next year at the same price tag of $6,250,000.

It's just my opinion, but I'm getting the idea that we simply cannot use this polling mechanism for anything resembling scientific data gathering.

]09:19 AM - Quote: Lo Duca Isn't Gutsy

...posted by Matthew Cerrone...

…the buzz from shea is that Paul Lo Duca has been playing the better part of the year with a torn ligament in his left thumb, and while it was tolerable earlier in the season it is now hurting more often and with a more intense pain…however, lo duca sees no reason to sit, since the injury will only get better with surgery, which he will most likely have after this season…

Lo Duca, as quoted by a variety of newspapers:

“Go to a children's hospital and see a 6-year-old kid who has cancer and is dying. That's gutsy. I'm getting paid millions of dollars to play this game, so if I can't go out there and play ... that's the way I look at it.”…

Since June 23, Lo Duca is batting .395 in his last 81 at-bats spanning 22 games…
