Greatest Met single season unit ever (INF, OF, SP, Pen, ect)

Something to kick around on an off night, get my mind off of my earlier display:

Trying to come up with the greatest single unit in Met history

I guess the greatest 25 man roster would still be the World Champions of 1986.

Starting Pitchers... I'm going with the 6 man from 1990, Gooden, Viola, Darling, Cone, Fernandez, Ojeda. The Mets never were stacked like that ever before, or since.

Bullpen... Probably the 1999-2000 one over this years. Two guys who were closers in their career. Cook, Wendell and any combo of Pat Mahomes, Chuck McElroy, Dotel and the rest of the bunch in there were pretty soild. This years threesome of Wagner-Sanchez-Heilman with Oliver and Feliciano (and whomever gets picked up from here on out) has to do it down the stretch

Staff top to bottom... Hmmm I think I'll take the 1988 staff with the pen of McDowell, Myers, Augie, Innis, and I think Leach was sidearming on that one as well. Staff of Cone coming into his own with Darling, Ojeda, Gooden, Sid was just hard to stop, unless you had a super human pitcher going for you and some "magic" on your side...

INF: As much as I want to say this years, I'd like to see what Delgado does down the stretch before they take the title from the SI Cover boys of 1999

OF: 1986. Strawberry, Dykstra, Wilson, Mitchell and interchangable parts with Foster and Maz. What you think I'd take the 99-00 one?

C: Eh, I like Grote-Dyer-Martin but Pratt came up big in the NLDS (Yeah JC got it done as well, but I'm 29 and was at the Pratt game) so Piazza-Pratt-Vance Wilson gets the nod

Bench: Hmmm, Probably the platoon heavy 1969 crew gets the nod. Kranepool and Garrett were and would be starters respectivly. Shamsky wasn't a slouch and you couldn't sleep on Rod Stupid...err Gaspar.

Complete offense. Again I like to see the stretch run happen before I give the 2006 Mets the title. Untill then its still the 1988 Mets.

I would have taken the 1962 outfield of Richie Ashburn, Duke Snider and Gus Bell .... in 1956.

Heh! In that vein, I'd take the 2002 Mets offense...in 1996!
