On Slugging .600

Basically, anybody who has booed Beltran should really be wearing an apologetic tee-shirt by now. Anybody crying MVP for Wright should check whether he's rooting for the Mets or the white race, because Beltran has simply given us a season for the ages.

Amazingly, as hot as he seems (and he sure feels like a shoe-in for Player of the Month), it's been a deleriously consistent season, slugging .600 every damn month. Wow.

This season has been a gift. If nothing else went quite right, Beltran's performance would be enough to make this season remarkable.

Yeah it's an amazin season, to think that last season he had only 16 home runs and this year he should top 40 it's remarkable, the future for this team is exciting.

It's a good thing he was moved out of NYC and into the 2-hole because there's no way he'd be putting up those kind of numbers under New York pressure and still hitting 3rd in the lineup.

Oh wait ...

Wright has had a very good season and should have a tremendous future ahead of him, but I believe Beltran has been the best player in a Mets uniform, so far this season.

That's right, I put the column header row in pink. What of it?

Dude, stop making it about you. Next thing we know, you'll be posting a picture of yourself pointing to the 86 World Series trophy.

or maybe they are rooting for the homegrown player who also happens to have grown up a Mets fan? nah, lets just play race card...

I think the MVP chants are dumb as it is.

Rooting for one Met over another makes little sense.

but thats really a seperate thing from accusing anyone of racism.

i happen to think the MVP chants a great support for your player and fun for the fans, i fail to see who loses.

Oh please. It's you guys (and Beltran) who should be thanking us boo-birds for shaming him into having the knd of year he's having!

OK, yeah, well, I'm sorry I introduced that. It's certainly not aimed at somebody specific --- here or elsewhere --- but you can't introduce the subject in a general sense even while merely suggesting people examine their conscience.

But the team was derided as "Los Mets" and Omar Minaya criticized from the building of this team of placing ethnicity over quality, and in indulging Spanish-speaking journalists at his press conference. The issue is there whether I ham-handedly introduce it or not.

Sorry, nonetheless. I'm, more importantly, just stupidly disappointed that a season that started off with Beltran's castigation and has reached nearly the two third's mark with him producing for those same fans to this point their team's best offensive season ever*... some sort of symbolic penitential self-immolation.

It's me. My problem. Nonetheless, this is my "Give it up for Carlos" thread. Slugging .600 every damn month on the baseball calendar. Huh-wow!

* Debateable, yes, but the case is so strong.

I don't know about anyone else but no offense taken on my part.

For the record - although I said I would continue to boo him this year, I haven't and I haven't heard many other people booing him this year, other than maybe the opening week. Well, pretty much because there hasn't been any reason to.

Last year's under-performance was boo-worthy but obviously booing him at any point this year was not only wrong but stupid.

I still don't think athletes of his caliber and earning prowess should be so sensitive about it but I'm willing to kiss and make up.
