Yes, we did but the Police are eligible to re-challenge. See the Who vs. Zeppelin post.

POLICE 10-0

I'm not nearly as familiar with Mr. Cave and his Seeds as perhaps I should be (he has an awesome first name btw) but I have a passing knowledge and am satisfied knowing that I didn't shortchange that band in giving The Police a 10 - 0 shutout.

The only reason The Police lost the first challenge to these guys was low voter turnout. Hopefully as a result of the poor leadership of President Cave, the masses will vote in greater number this time if for no other reason than to voice displeasure at the current administration's policies.

Interesting Fact: Andy Summers married his second wife, Kate, in 1973, and they had a daughter named Layla (can you believe it?) in 1978. They divorced in 1981, but remarried in 1985, Andy blaming the divorce on the stress of touring with the Police. (Sting ruins everything.)

They remain married to this day, with three kids, bearing the middle intitials X, Y, and Z, which don't stand for anything.

Interesting Fact: Cave is said to be a member of "The Sons of Lee Marvin," a semi-secret society founded by filmmaker Jim Jarmusch. Other members are rumoured to be Tom Waits, John Lurie, Richard Bose, Iggy Pop, Thurston Moore, Mickey Rooney, and Neil Young.

"I'm not at liberty to divulge information about the organization, other than to tell you that it does exist. I can identify three other members of the organization: Tom Waits, John Lurie, and Richard Bose. You have to have a facial structure such that you could be related to, or be a son of, Lee Marvin. There are no women, obviously, in the organization. We have communiques and secret meetings. Other than that, I can't talk about it."

—Jim Jarmusch: Interview: Vol. XIX - No. 11, 1989: pp 146-150.

I don't know, i used to like them but over the years I got sick of hearing the songs, i think Sting has a lot to do with that...I really don't like the guy.

I saw a movie many many years ago with a young Sting playing a houseguest and he seduces the family's teenage daughter. Really really creepy stuff.

Here it is, Brimstone and Treacle

Sting follows us around. He clearly markets his stuff to be played in retail environments. He has enough leftover marketable coolness to make you feel hip for shopping at Bed, Bath, & Beyond or some fallen place, but makes music without a single subversive note.

He stingks. But part of it just makes me dig the Police more.

When the Police were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame you knew Stingk would get his wimpy way with their long-awaited set and they did a ballad --- "Every Breath You Take" --- and two overplayed mid-tempo pieces --- "Message in a Bottle" and "Roxanne." Everybody knew it was coming and I imagine they checked their watches several times during the brief set, but if they just reminded everybody why they were great by exploding out with

Ican'tstanditforanotherday!!
Whenyoulivesomanymilesaway!!

well, they'd have blown everybody's minds, including your'n.

He shouldn't have left that Irish wife of his for Trudy, that's for sure.

Well, perhaps to replace "Every Breath You Take."

I just think Stingk would've done well to kick out the jams and remind everybody why they were the biggest rock band in the world.

I think I should retire Nick Cave and Thin Lizzy, can I do that, I'll go with the Cure and may introduce a new band.

Willets Point
Aug 01 2006 09:59 PM

I don't see why not. Do you want to leave them where they lie or delete them entirely.

metirish
Aug 01 2006 10:00 PM

I guess delete them so as to not confuse things, I mean not that it's confusing ..ahh you know what I mean.

Edgy DC
Aug 02 2006 03:31 AM

Leave 'em right where they be, say I.

Willets Point
Aug 02 2006 09:39 AM

Pray tell why? If you leave them there, they will be challenged leading to crappy challenges like this one. If everyone decides not to challenge them they'll be at an artificially high spot on the ladder.

I'm going to go with metirish's wishes unless someone has a compelling argument to the contrary.

sharpie
Aug 02 2006 10:19 AM

As long as everyone adheres to the "challenge a band you yourself are familiar with" rule then I don't think we should delete any bands. I personally think that Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds are one of the top 100 bands and should be accorded that status. The less-known bands will never rank that high anyway.

Edgy DC
Aug 02 2006 10:22 AM
