Seawolf's avatars

I want to start a tribute thread to some of the more creative avatars Seawolf has used to commemorate particular Mets.

F'rinstance, right now for Dennis Cook he has the Swedish Chef:

Chuck Taylor got the obvious Converse All-Star hightop:

A semi-obscure use of the Subway logo served for Willie Randolph:

Anyone remember any others? I like the Carl Everett dinosaur but can't find the right image. There was also a guy represented by a harmonica and someone had to tell me the story behind it but I can't remember who he is.

I don't get the Chuck Taylor/sneaker connection.

The logo on Converse All-Stars is autographed by someone named Chuck Taylor.

People sometimes call them Chuck Taylor's or Chucks.

Well, you learn something every day.

Phil Linz.

Trying to recall some other offbeat ones...

Pretty sure the entertainer Kenny Rogers was Kenny Rogers the pitcher

Chuck Taylor, late owner of what has to be the longest athletic shoe endorsement in history, should be more well known than some guy.

He's also the subject of a 2006 bio from Indiana University Press.

Foreword by Dean Smith, yo.

Jeez, I don't even remember most of them. I'll say that's my biggest regret moving over here from ezboard, though... losing that. I put a lot more effort into it when I knew that it would be on record for posterity.

Why does Dennis Cook = Swedish chef?

It does say "Boswell" on her shirt

Yea, I just thought there was more to it. Like I should recognize who she is or its a reference to some tv show/movie. I probably am overthinking this one.

Cooby and Soup are both right. Nothing too special about either of them. But I'll admit I'm tempted to be Ken Boswell forever.

Maybe I need to get my eyes checked...

This is a cheerleader with "BOSWELL" on her shirt?

I see a young doctor in scrubs standing in front of a wall of X-Rays.

It's either a cheerleader or a rabbit digging a hole with a little shovel

I can't possibly be seeing the same photo that everyone else is.

Okay, I just refreshed my browser cache, and now I see the cute cheerleader.

I guess seawolf reused the same filename as the x-ray guy in scrubs. (I wonder which Met that was?)

That's what I see...i don't get it.

Hit "refresh" on your browser. In the interest of saving hassle, I find the image I want, save it as "cpf.jpg", then replace the former file in my photobucket. Voila! Instant image change. This way, I don't have to go into my preferences here and change the image name every time; it's always cpf.jpg, it just that the contents of that file change.

Todd Zeile was represented by "The Todd" from Scrubs (the aforementioned doctor). A stretch, I know, but I've been lazy. I'll get better.

Is that Doug Flynn or am I missing a joke?

I'm thinking Pete Flynn. Doug's still a tanned handsome Kentucky man.

And now Bleeding Gums Murphy is playing the blues for Dr. Ron Taylor?

seawolf17

As luck would have it, Bleeding Gums was voiced by an actor named... Ron Taylor.

Klingon Chef - now there's an interesting role. Somehow I imagine it being like a Klingon cooking show.

Actually the character was a Klingon version of a Benny Hana style entertainment/culinary artist as he would sing Klingon opera to his patrons

And on the day that inspired this song:

Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Out in the yard with your wife and children
Working on some stage in LA
Did you stand there in shock at the site of
That black smoke rising against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger
In fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry

Did you weep for the children
Who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below

Did you burst out in pride
For the red white and blue
The heroes who died just doing what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself to what really matters

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Teaching a class full of innocent children
Driving down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Speak with some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out and buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

Alan Jackson is a sweetheart. I don't like country music, but he's one of the good ones, and that's a good song.
