My company has put my division up for sale, could be joining allayall soon. Let's blow off corporate USA and get jobs that pay well and give us 5-7 days off a week.

If you apply for the same job as me, I'm going to make up anything I can, like telling the company that you spend all your working hours on the Internet.

"And how would know that, Mr. 88?"

I figured we'd avoid that unpleasantness, protected by the principle of mutally assured destruction.

Not a good idea, cooby's not working, either. :)

Elster, all the best in your job search and good luck on Wednesday; I'll be thinking of you.

You two are just thinking of changing jobs. Elster and Widey are more urgent

Edgy DC
Jul 25 2006 08:29 AM

Well, it's getting pretty urgent for me, but sure.

I'm getting my wisdom teeth extracted on Thursday also. I'm going all over the internet begging for love.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 25 2006 08:47 AM

I'm not urgent. Despite goofing off all day long, I'm probably safer in a transfer than many of my co-workers, since I'm not a boss, not a rookie, and serve a role that is relatively high-profile and difficult for just any dummy to fill.

I'm worried only that we get sold to a shitty company, or to one in New Jersey. Then I gotta look.

cooby
Jul 25 2006 10:41 AM

Edgy, you'll do fine Thursday. You'll be treated like a prince at the dentist's office, I promise

And best of luck to all of us in our employment pursuits!

Elster88
Jul 26 2006 12:00 PM

Now I haven't done this in a while, but I think it's a good sign when the 45-minute interview closes with "It was great talking to you, I'm looking forward to getting you on campus. We'll schedule a second interview as soon as possible."

ScarletKnight41
Jul 26 2006 12:08 PM

That's a good sign by any standard :)

Elster88
Jul 26 2006 12:12 PM

:-) I'm doing way to much patting of my own back and tooting of my own horn, but it felt great. First interview in a while and blasting it out of the park. From my previous experience you have to wait for a call-back before finding out one way or the other if you're going to get a second interview.

Johnny Dickshot
Jul 26 2006 03:12 PM

If they send you a mix tape, it's completely in the bag.

MFS62
Jul 27 2006 07:18 AM

Hint.
When the interviewer asks "when can you start?", don't reach for his coffee cup and say "Immediately. Can I start my medical exam by leaving you a sample now?"

Meanwhile, while I was just taking a shower, Woolrich just called and offered me my old job back (they don't do that for many people) What should I do? I really don't want to go back there (towards the end it was practically unbearable and Christmas is awful) , but I HAVE to get something soon.

Do you think it would be fair to go back as long as they understand that I would still be looking for something else?

Edgy DC
Aug 03 2006 02:18 PM

1) Absolutely.

2) Hell, yeahs.

Can what was unbearable be lessened?

If you go back for a week or two, do all your holiday shopping immediately, so you can quit any time and not lament your lost employee discount.

Really, who orders wool products in Winter that they're callling back the peeps who walked out on them?

cooby
Aug 03 2006 02:23 PM

]Can what was unbearable be lessened?

No because I can't control who they send catalogs to and last year included way too many people who I felt like I had to remind them to breathe. I hated it. The first year wasn't like that at all.

The trouble is, there have been NO jobs listed lately that I would be able to apply for unless they are too far away for me to drive at $3.00 gallon.

And I never heard back from last week's perfect job interview :(

Plus, I wasn't making enough money there. Though I suppose what I was making is more than I am making now, which is none.

When I was at Emery Air Freight, it was purchased by Consolidated Freightways. Our VP attended the first meeting with them after the sale. When we asked him how they seemed, all he could say was "truckers in suits".

Sounds like a pretty good deal, and if I ever become ambitious, might provide some opportunities I couldn't get in the current set-up without the death or retirement of a few co-workers, so s'all good.

Office space looks like it'll be somewhat of a downgrade (we're just past a year in this building, recently re-done and Class A nice) and commute time will increase by 10-15 mins, but I'll trade Midtown for Chelsea on most every other criteria (lunch, receord stores, parks, proximity to stuff other than work, general gayness, etc.)
