Just saw Piazza on the sports news, he looks super cool with rap around shades.

Chris Cotter on the pre-game says the Mets will activate Ledee after the game, Floyd may go on the DL,Cotter is speculating on Cliff.

KC
Aug 08 2006 07:06 PM

I still don't know why that whole throwing the half-bat back at Piazza with
that bug-eyed-crazed-roid-rage-face was fluffed over so much and then even
turned into Piazza's a pussy by many.

That was fucked up.

We now return you our regularly schedule IGT.

The Mets had a two minute video tribute to Mike, SNY was on a TV break of course.

metirish
Aug 08 2006 07:18 PM

Trax with a nice 1-2-3 inning, Cameron got a good hand from the fans.

Aug 08 2006 07:28 PM

First inning over, Piazza to the plate..

well that was amazing.....great job fans....WOW

Nice touch playing the so familiar Jimi intro music for him.

Zvon

Well, that blummed me out.

TransMonk

Kudos to MLB.TV who played the tribute film to Mike and stayed with SNY's feed through the commercials, which they don't normally do, so the ovation wouldn't be missed at the top of the 2nd.

Holy S-S S-S TSP, Batman.

Mets get bases loaded with no out and eeek a run on a DP hit into by
Lastings and Trax grounds out. Lastings might have tools, but he doesn't
strike me as the sharpest tool in the drawer just yet.

OE: fixed don't to doesn't - I love when that happens.

Zvon
Aug 08 2006 07:53 PM

Bases loaded no outs and we only plate one.
Better than nada...........

Wright with a single and steal in that inning--
I like.

More please.

Fantastic pictures-
thankyou seawolf.

That was a treat.

Wright ties it with his second single of the game.
Beltraan is also 2 fer 2, with two ground rule doubles.

Ring holds em.

3-2 Mets.

The line on Trachsel:

5.2 innings pitched
5 hits
2 runs, all earned
2 walks
3 strikeouts

(On edit-CBSsportsline sucks tonight)

metirish

Zvon

metirish

Still 3-2 Mets as we go to the eight inning, looks like Bert tonight.....Go Mets.

metirish
Aug 08 2006 09:36 PM

Well damn it's not Bert it's Oliver to start the eight...

metirish
Aug 08 2006 09:40 PM

Oliver walks cameron and Willie bringsin Bert to face Piazza, how many times have we seen Piazza come through in these spots?.....

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 08 2006 09:42 PM

We need one of those famous Piazza GIDPs.

Zvon
Aug 08 2006 09:44 PM

Cameron's at bat chases Oliver--he worked him for that walk.

I have to say, Im proud of the Met fans attending tonights game.
They show some class for a class act.....

Bert will come in to pitch.
Piazza will bat with Cameron on at first .........

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 08 2006 09:44 PM

Dook throws a frisbee to second base and the DP is off.

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 08 2006 09:47 PM

Piazza harmlessly flies to center, and ... a pitching change for out 3. If you're gonna go with Feliciano here, maybe you just as well go to Waggy.

In related news, that Dr. Z may be the most irritating corporate spokesman ever.

I was thinking the same thing. Especially with a 1 run lead, and Bradford had been throwing but didn't come in, we might've been in bad shape in extras had Billy had a problem. Heilman was throwing in the 9th for a little.

Ex Mets returning report:

Piazza came out to warm up in the OF, the crowd noticed and started the "Mike Pi-azza, clap clap, clapclapclap" which got a tip of the cap.

The video tribute, set to In My Life, was timed very nicely as it started as Piazza was walking back towards the dugout. He waved, turned around and watched it, and waved some more. Another standing O and tips of the cap, kisses being blown as he got to the dugout.

Two doffs of the cap as he stepped out for the first AB. Trachsel and LoDuca did a very nice job of looking busy to give Mike time.

Mike Cameron also got a very nice standing reception and I think he did a slight tip of the cap too.

What a great night. A lot of positive emotion from the fans, and a nail biter that turned out right.

My favorite moment of the game was with Piazza at bat, and the crowd was chanting "Mike Pi-a-zza", until LoDuca threw out the runner at second, at which point the chant became "Paul Lo-Du-ca!" It was a ceremonial passing of the torch by the Mets fans without any dis towards our former hero.

It was a pretty great way for MK to spend his 10th birthday :)

I'm still surprised at how shaggy Mike looks.

Elster88
Aug 09 2006 09:09 AM

]Piazza said he “didn’t want it to end,” and compared being here to hanging out with 46,167 brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles.

What's nice about yesterday's game is that since Willie wasn't managing, Mike got his last at-bat.

Elster88
Aug 09 2006 09:28 AM

]Tom Glavine recalled how Turner Field had treated Andres Galarraga when he returned to Atlanta as a member of the Giants in 2001. "How the fans stood and cheered," he said. "And when I went back in ... oh, that's right, they didn't treat me like that."

When Lastings was at bat with the bases loaded and bounced into a run-scoring double play was I right in thinking that the fans booed him, for the members that were at the game was it loud booing?

No, it wasn't Matsui-esque, but then again a run still came home on that play.

The booing is kinda pointless, and he still has his fans, like those seen in the upper deck on Sunday night, but I think people are perhaps a bit tired of a .219 average with a .330 attitude.
