Ring in the news

As per Adam Rubin's blog: Royce Ring up, Mike Pelfrey down

Funny, I would have thought would have to go to Bell first before you get a Ring ... but I guess not this time.

'Pen now has more lefties than righties.

Ring wearing 43 according to the Mets press release.

Odd that 22 is available for him again.

Cant say we didnt see this coming.

He needs more seasoning.
I thought we'd be seeing a good amount of Ks and some lights out performances.

We saw a very average pitcher.
Maybe even under average, tho I think if given time he would have gotten his ERA and WHIP down a bit.

I'd agree with that.
If the rehab goes as planned I think I'd be more in favor of the next starting pitcher promotion going to Bannister and not to Pelfrey returning.

With their complimentary names it would be fun to have them in the pen together.

Yeah, if next year they wanted to give Sanchez and Wagner the day off, the 8th and 9th would be "Ring The Bell!"

Or thats what Tim "Out by a HARE!" McCarver would probably say

Why do I recall Shawn Hare is beyond me. There was also "Herr, is Here!" when Tom Herr made his Met debut.

Before he was annoying fans on a national level, Tim McCarver: The Annoying Punster of WOR Telecasts!

Bell relieving Ring would be the best thing since League relieved Bush in several games in Toronto last year.

My son'll be happy.

He got Royce's autograph at spring training and has been asking me all year if he's gonna come up.

Speaking of the news, in today's early edition of the NY Daily News, the headline over the article about him being brought up was "Royce Rolls into Shea" (or something like that).

Rolls Royce.
Clever, eh?
Not really. He's probably heard that play on his name a thousand times.
And as soon as we heard of him, we all probably thought of it, too.

Edgy, you're a professional editor. Would you allow a headline like that in your publication?

Royce Gracie pronounces it "Hoyce". But that's a weird thing in that family. His brother Rickson pronounces it "Hickson", and so on.

His full name is actually Roger Royce Ring, which led us earlier to the obvious nickname of R^3 (or R-cubed).
One game during his first call-up he held the other team for an inning or so while our bats smacked around Ugeth Urtain Urbina, leading to the mathmatical equation of the night of:
R^3 > U^3

I hate plays on words in headlines. Un-clever people work so hard at being clever that all meaning is lost. I'm no fun.

I like the simpler ones. Like anything with Wright.

I can't wait for someone covering the Braves to come up with a headline about Ryan Langerhans that's Diabetes-related.

Who did we trade to the ChiSox for him? I forget. Was it Burnitz?

Alomar I believe.

July 1, 2003: Ring was traded by the Chicago White Sox with Andrew Salvo (minors) and Edwin Almonte to the New York Mets for Roberto Alomar and cash.
