Great Mets vs. Padres memories

I was trying to think of memorable games played between the Mets and the Padres, and I couldn't come up with very much. (Perhaps this coming October will finally give us a Mets-Padres game for the ages.) The first game that came to mind was the no-hit bid by Tom Seaver that was spoiled by Leron Lee. This was the game I mentioned in the "No-****r" thread. I remember being nine years old and turning on the radio in my backyard and hearing Lindsey Nelson or Bob Murphy say, "Tom Seaver is pitching a no-hitter!" The other memory was of back-to-back doubleheaders that the two teams played at Shea in the late summer of 1984. The reason I remember is that I was at Shea both days; I attended four games in roughly a 30-hour period. I also checked the box score lookup popularity of Mets-Padres games on the UMDB. The first game listed, September 6, 1986, is way ahead of all of the others, which are all pretty well clustered together, and I'm really not sure why. (Nobody's posted a memory of that particular game.) The Leron Lee game came in at number 7, and one of the four games from the back-to-back doubleheaders came in at number 6 1. September 6, 1986 2. Memorable, for bad reasons, is the Beltran-Cameron collision in San Diego on Aug. 11, 2005.

I remember Nate Colbert hitting 4 homeruns in a doublehearder once. Was that against the Mets?

Yep, that's right. That's the April 22, 1970 game that's the second most-popular.

Um, thanks for that. Floyd was hurt that game also, but stayed in, unwisely to my thinking, because the Met bench was so short (and they were still in the game). That same series featured David Wright's barehanded grab. Beltran finishes the play knocked senseless and draped across Cammy's beautiful torso, but you can see him struggling. "Must stay conscious and... undrape... myself... b-because I'm... not... g-gay." Or he sees it as unseemly to lay on top of unconsicous teammate. It could be that also.
