Gary and Ron are wearing matching olive green jackets. I don't know whether they planned that or not, but they look pretty silly.

Mets have Beltran and Delgado on base for Wright, both teams back in regular uniforms thankfully.

Maine with three ground ball outs, 24 scoreless innings and counting.

I'm getting the Washington feed.

One of the Nationals announcers said that Brian Bannister is on the 60-day DL. Is that true? Did I miss something?

From the Daily News this morning:

]ZIPPING ALONG: John Maine takes a 23-inning scoreless streak into tonight's outing against Nats righthander Jason Bergmann (0-0, 8.14 ERA), who is making his second big-league start. Maine's streak is 8 2/3 innings shy of the franchise record set by Jerry Koosman in 1973.

I guess we can now make that 7 2/3.

So Maine needs a complete game shutout if he wants to break the record today.

I'd kind of hate to see a Jerry Koosman record fall, but Maine has my permission to pitch a shutout today.

]

5/30/06 Brian Bannister Transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

That's from Mets.com

Oh, that was on May 30. I thought they were describing a recent development.

So Brian's 60 days are up.

Thanks for the clarification.

Maine's scoreless streak is the longest by a Mets starting pitcher since Leiter went 25 scoreless in 1998, Mark Guthrie went 27 scoreless in 2002.

Aug 12 2006 07:39 PM

Maine is HBP to start the third, and Reyes triples him home. 1-0 Mets :)

ScarletKnight41
Aug 12 2006 07:40 PM

LoDuca's first pitch single brings home Reyes to make it 2-0 :)

ScarletKnight41
Aug 12 2006 07:42 PM

Escobar misplay's Beltran's hit to make it an RBI triple. 3-0 Mets :)

Yancy Street Gang
Aug 12 2006 07:52 PM

And now Maine has three scoreless innings today. (And the streak is at 26.)

3-0 Mets after 3.

I wonder if Jerry Koosman even knows that his record is in trouble?

Is he watching from his home in Minnesota?

Gary and Ron talking about the Green rumors and they bring up names like Jeff Jenkins and Preston Wilson, preston is not signed beyond this season.

Aug 12 2006 08:11 PM

Nick Johnson homers and the streak is over.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 12 2006 08:11 PM

Nick Fucking Johnson's solo homer ends Maines scoreless inning streak at 26.

3-1 Mets in the fourth.

Now lets see if Maine can continue to pitch a good game, one hit through 4.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 12 2006 08:34 PM

Milledge's infield single brings home Mr. Wright and gives the Mets a 4-1 lead in the 6th.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 12 2006 08:43 PM

Maine has suddenly run out of steam in the 6th with an infield hit, a 2-run Soriano homer, and a single. One on, none out, and a 4-3 Mets lead.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 12 2006 08:50 PM

Feliciano is brought in to face Nick Fucking Johnson with a runner on second and one out. Feliciano immediately coughs up a single that Beltran misplays, and the runner on second scores the tying run easily.

They hit Wright with a pitch! Someone defend his honor, dammit!

Hey, Mr. Met is in the house. Cool.

Valentin with a bloop hit RBI single,Mets take the lead 5 to 4.....how did Jose not make the MLB "comeback player of the year" list?

ScarletKnight41
Aug 12 2006 09:10 PM

After about 55 foul balls, Porn Stash's single brings home Beltran! 5-4 Mets :)

Aug 12 2006 09:11 PM

Tucker brings Wright home and it's 6-4 Mets.....no quit in this team.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 12 2006 09:11 PM

Michael Tucker's sac fly brings home Mr. Wright to make it 6-4. Porn Stash slides in safely to second base on a close play.

And Feliciano does a job keeping Soriano from coming to the plate as the tying run.

Mets.

Rock.

They do.

Aug 12 2006 09:27 PM

Sonia, your man is bunting for a hit with two outs.

Eh.

Edgy DC
Aug 12 2006 09:30 PM

Aaaron, lead your people.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 12 2006 09:30 PM

Leave Sonia out of this. The woman has suffered enough.

Meanwhile, Heilman comes in to pitch the 8th with a 6-4 lead.

Edgy DC
Aug 12 2006 09:33 PM

Now the tying run is on with Zimmerman up.

Kerri, talk to your man.

Aug 12 2006 09:37 PM

Dr. Z is annoying...Heilman is not.

Edgy DC
Aug 12 2006 09:37 PM

Way 2B.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 12 2006 09:37 PM

Whatever Kerri said was effective - Heilman gets out of the 8th unscathed.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 12 2006 09:52 PM

Wagner gets the job done, and the Mets win!

Edgy DC
Aug 12 2006 09:52 PM

An' zat's it.

Wagner, according to the Nats radio crew, hit 100.

Johnson came up with two outs in the fourth and drove a 3-2 fastball into the loge level at R.F.K. Maine turned and watched Johnson’s home run sail out, but he did not seem perturbed that three weeks’ worth of hard work had vanished so abruptly.

Absolutely atrocious wording. In no way did the three weeks' work vanish.

While I understand the flaws in radar guns, I am pleased to have Billy Wagner as the Met closer going into the 2006 playoffs.
