IGT 8-18-2006 Mets vs the John Denvers

Someone probably more hated than Billy Joel!

He was born in the summer of his 27th year
Comin' home to a place he'd never been before
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
You might say he found a key for every door

When he first came to the mountains his life was far away
On the road and hangin' by a song
But the string's already broken and he doesn't really care
It keeps changin' fast and it don't last for long

But the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullabye
Rocky mountain high

He climbed cathedral mountains, he saw silver clouds below
He saw everything as far as you can see
And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun
And he lost a friend but kept his memory

Now he walks in quiet solitude the forest and the streams
Seeking grace in every step he takes
His sight has turned inside himself to try and understand
The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake

And the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
You can talk to God and listen to the casual reply
Rocky mountain high

Now his life is full of wonder but his heart still knows some fear
Of a simple thing he cannot comprehend
Why they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more
More people, more scars upon the land

And the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
I know he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly
Rocky mountain high

It's Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
Friends around the campfire and everybody's high
Rocky mountain high

No Valentin, huh?

If they have to disable him, will it be Edgardo time?

Kepping...oh wait.

Fonzie's doing better than Gotay, so I guess he'd be the man.
Personally, I'm hoping there's no DL'ing involved. Last I heard, it was just tightness and not a pull.

Man on 3rd, one out for the Meat.

But Trashy K's him!

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 07:17 PM

I don't know when or why In-Game Threads became an attempt to deliberately annoy people with music they allegedly hate. But I don't hate John Denver.

both pitchers have got low strikes in the first inning. Could be a fun game this, especially with BY Kim throwin' the funk.

Speak for yourself

SteveJRogers

I don't hate John Denver at all, I really wanted to use Rocky Mountain High but I figured based on the response the Billy Joel songs got that any Denver song would garner "Hiss, BOOO" responses.

I was noting that yes I know its John Denver, but I'm posting the song anyway!

Trachsel gets the Bearer of Meat to fly out, side retired.

I wish I had a recording of a spoof song the Imus' nuts did to the tune
of Country Boy ...

Thank God I'm a Country Boy was turned into

And Now I'm an Ocean Buoy

Good to have Ron and Keith in the booth with Gary, they are so much fun.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 07:47 PM

Byung-Hyun Kim has one funny looking swing.

Aug 18 2006 07:57 PM

Two on two out and Wright at bat....perfect....

metirish
Aug 18 2006 07:58 PM

Wright brings Beltran home from second with a double,Delgado to third.

Mets 1-Rockies - 0

OlerudOwned
Aug 18 2006 07:58 PM

Big hit for Wright!

1-0, Metropolitan Baseball Club of New York

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 08:01 PM

Yea Mr. Wright!

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 08:04 PM

Yea, Mr. Kiner.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 08:08 PM

Damn - Trax coughs up a gopher ball. 2-1 Colorado :(

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 08:13 PM

Kim helps his own cause with an RBI single. 3-1 Colorado in the middle of the 4th.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 08:14 PM

Quick poll. Good cutoff by Delgado or bad?

metirish
Aug 18 2006 08:15 PM

Good, without seeing a replay yet I don't think Beltrans throw would have got the runner....

metirish
Aug 18 2006 08:17 PM

After seeing the replay I think Delgado did the right thing,Chavez with a home run....

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 08:18 PM

Freakin' muscle on that Chavez dude.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 08:18 PM

Tie game! Woodward is HBP and Endy Chavez knocks one out of the park!

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 08:21 PM

Eldon Auker?

Ralph, you freakin' encyclopedia, stop blowing my mind.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 08:31 PM

Now Ralph, in looking for a comparison to praise Bob Feller's curve, goes not with Nolan Ryan or Bert Blyleven, but Camilo Pacual.

Go Ralphie, go!

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 08:34 PM

Interesting, Jose Reyes apparently is angry at Corey Sullivan.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 08:39 PM

Mr. Wright has his second RBI hit of the night :)

4-3 Mets.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 08:45 PM

Tucker has an RBI single, then Mr. Wright scores on Woodward's sac fly. 6-3 Mets in the 6th.

Kim is out of the game, and we're into the Rockies' pen.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 08:46 PM

Six-three now. Exy Lent.

Bad slide by Tucker.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 08:49 PM

Bad slide, but it also looks like a bad call - I don't think that Tucker was tagged at the plate. Gary is explaining how Hirschback was out of position.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 08:49 PM

Tucker this time does make a well-advised hookslide. Except he doesn't get the call.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 08:50 PM

My bad slide comment was relative to the play at third. I like his move at the plate.

Welcome back to Shea, Tom Martin.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 08:51 PM

Ah - I misunderstood.

6-3 Mets at the end of the 6th.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 08:52 PM

Stop kicking Ralph out of the booth!

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 08:52 PM

The poor man needs his rest already.

But Ralph sounded very excited about coming back tomorrow for the 1986 celebration :)

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 09:03 PM

Oops - I was off by an inning.

Trax just completed the top of the 6th, getting out of a 2 on, 1 out jam unscathed. Still 6-3.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 09:06 PM

Trax is on 93 pitches. Bring him back out for the seventh.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 09:11 PM

Double by Beltran.

Five for his last five with two walks. Boo!

LoDuca had some choice words for a pitch he fouled off.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 09:14 PM

Delgado walks, while Beltran steals third. Mr. Wright at the plate.

That was pretty funny.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 09:16 PM

Wright facing the lefty with two ducks on the pond.

Martin, to his credit, usually does better against righties.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 09:17 PM

And he gets his man.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 09:24 PM

6-3 heading towards the 7th inning stretch.

It's good that Trax went deep tonight. We'll need all hands on deck tomorrow with the rookie starting.

Aug 18 2006 09:29 PM

What rookie is starting tomorrow?,I'm drawing a blank .

Dave Williams isn't exactly a rookie.

OlerudOwned
Aug 18 2006 09:32 PM

I thought 27-year old, non-rookie, deceased Alt-rock singer Dave Williams was starting tomorrow.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 09:32 PM

Cool - thanks FK.

Trax's night is over. Ledee pinch hits for him. The bunt attempt is ruled a foul ball on a weird play. Ledee follows up by flying out to end the inning.

metirish
Aug 18 2006 09:37 PM

I love watching Bradford pitch, plus he's shit-hot,great job by Trax tonight.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 09:38 PM

Why was Bradford warming up to "Over My Head (Cable Car)" by The Fray?

Isn't that the kind of music you would play for the opposing reliever?

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 09:39 PM

Bradford gives up a 2-out single and strands the runner.

On to the bottom of the 8th!

metirish
Aug 18 2006 09:44 PM

Gary tells us that for the next two games the Mets will wear 86 uniforms to honour the guys.

ScarletKnight41
Aug 18 2006 09:46 PM

Onto the 9th. Wagner is coming in with a 3-run lead.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 09:51 PM

Gets the first out looking.

EDIT: He got smacked upside the head with with a shattered bat, ouch.

Jerry Layne. Moving when he was taken off, but it looked like they braced him.

Edgy DC
Aug 18 2006 10:12 PM

Layne looks all right, relatively speaking, but they're x-raying him to check for a broken jaw.

Good time to take advantage of a situation and argue for standardizing the thickness of the bat handles.
