Throwback Nite IGT 8/19/06

Well that ceremony was fantastic.

And remember, only 86 songs:

]Now I'm not feeding off you, I will rearrange your scales
If I can, and I can
March into the ocean, march into the sea

I had a hat I put it down and it sunk, reached down,
Yanked it up, slapped it on my head
All the people gather
Fly to carry each his burden
We are young despite the years we are concern
We are hope despite the times
All of the sudden, these days
Happy throngs, take this joy wherever, wherever

I wish to meet each one of you
And you, me, you, if I can and I can
We have many things in common, name three

I had a hat and it sunk, reached down,
Yanked it up, slapped it on my head
All the people gather
Fly to carry each his burden
We are young despite the years we are concern
We are hope despite the times
All of the sudden, these days
Happy throngs, take this joy wherever, wherever you go

Now I'm not feeding off you I will rearrange your scales
If I can and I can
I wish to eat each one of you and you, me, you

I had a hat and it sunk, reached down,
Yanked it up, slapped it on my head
All the people gather
Fly to carry each his burden
We are young despite the years we are concern
We are hope despite the times
All of the sudden, these days
Happy throngs, take this joy wherever, wherever you
Carry each his burden
We are young despite the years we are concern
We are hope despite the times
All of the sudden, these days
Happy throngs, take this joy wherever, wherever you go

Great ceremony, tons of fun to watch.

The sky diver was a nice touch.

I do love these jerseys.

Dave Williams is the 3rd (?) #32 this year for the Mets. What's the record for number of different players wearing one uniform number in a single year?

Johnny Dickshot

Great triv. Four stiffs wore 6 in 2004:

Ricky Gutierrez
Gerald Williams
Tom Wilson
Jeff Keppinger

Twenty years later those guys still give me goosebumps.

Unbelieveable.

And right now I'm having a hard time giving a damn about the 2006 Mets.

Keith is positively giddy in the booth right now and still wearing his uni. "They'll have to tear the uniform off me," he said.

Right on, Keith.

Lenny Dykstra in the booth, sounds toasted.

Ronny doesn't look happy that he lost his chair to him, I guess he drew the short straw.

Johnny Dickshot
Aug 19 2006 09:29 PM

Great stuff in the Orosco interview:

Darling: Jesse is the only guy I ever played catch with whose throws would whistle they had so much spin.

Jesse: Bud Harrelson recovered his airborne glove; his hat might have been taken by umpire Lee Weyer as a souvenier, but because it was too small he left it alone.

Milledege breaks up Jeff Francis' no-no, but Endy grounds out to end tthe threat.

This woulda been a nice time to have a RH-hitting OF on the roster.

Well, the situation has come to pass.

RHernandez faced 3 batter, gave up a HR, single and an out. Williams went 5.2, gave up only 1 run (+the 2 batters who scored on Robo's meatball).

Robo is PH for in the following half inning during which the Mets improbably score 5.

He can't deserve this win. He just can't.

] A man walks down the street
He says why am I soft in the middle now
Why am I soft in the middle
The rest of my life is so hard
I need a photo opportunity
I want a shot at redemption
Don’t want to end up a cartoon
In a cartoon graveyard
Bone-digger, bone-digger
Dogs in the moonlight
Far away my well-lit door
Mr. Beerbelly, beerbelly
Get these mutts away from me
You know I don’t find this stuff
Amusing anymore

If you’ll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
You can call me Al

A man walks down the street
He says why am I short of attention
Got a short little span of attention
And woe my nights are so long
Where’s my wife and family
What if I die here
Who’ll be my role model
Now that my role model is
Gone gone
He ducked back down the alley
With some roly-poly little bat-faced girl
All along along
There were incidents and accidents
There were hints and allegations

If you’ll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
You can call me Al
Call me Al

A man walks down the street
It’s a street in a strange world
Maybe it’s the third world
Maybe it’s his first time around
He doesn’t speak the language
He holds no currency
He is a foreign man
He is surrounded by the sound
The sound
Cattle in the marketplace
Scatterlings and orphanages
He looks around around
He sees angels in the architecture
Spinning in infinity
He says Amen and Hallelujah

If you’ll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
You can call me Al...l

Delgado picking it like the Keithmaster. Doubleplay!

He was the first punk ever to set foot on this earth.
He was a genius from the day of his birth.
He could play the piano like a ring and a bell
And ev'rybody screamed: Come on, rock me Amadeus!

He was a superstar, he was dynamite
And whatever he did, it seemed to be alright.
And he drank and he cursed and he fooled around
But when the women would shout: Rock me Amadeus!

Amadeus, Amadeus, Amadeus,
Amadeus, Amadeus, Amadeus,
Oh oh oh Amadeus.

With a bottle of wine in one hand
And a woman in the other, 'cause he was a ladies man
He never stopped to worry what the next day would bring
Because the girls would sing: Rock me Amadeus!

Amadeus, Amadeus, Amadeus,
Amadeus, Amadeus, Amadeus,
Oh oh oh Amadeus.

His mind was on rock and roll and having fun
Because he lived so fast he had to die so young.
But he made his mark in history.
Still ev'rybody says: Rock me Amadeus!

Amadeus, Amadeus, Amadeus,
Amadeus, Amadeus, Amadeus,
Oh oh oh Amadeus.

Following my man

Makes me feel quite dirty
Though we all do sometimes

I wanna be a cowboy
and you can be my cowgirl
I wanna be a cowboy
and you can be my cowgirl
I wanna be a cowboy

Looking like a hero
Six-gun at my side
Chewing my tobacco
Out on the horizon

I see a puff of smoke
Indians on the warpath
Indian voice: White man speak-em with forked tongue.

Your lights are on
But you're not home
Your mind
Is not your own
Your heart sweats
Your body shakes
Another kiss
Is what it takes

You can't sleep
You can't eat
There's no doubt
You're in deep
Your throat is tight
You can't breathe
Another kiss
Is all you need

Whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the stuff
Oh yeah!
It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough
You know, you're gonna have to face it
You're addicted to love

You see the signs
But you can't read
You're runnin' at
A different speed
You heart beats
In double time
Another kiss
And you'll be mine
A one track mind!
You can't be saved
Oblivion
Is all you crave
If there's some
Left for you
You don't mind
If you do

Whoa, you like to think that you're immune to the stuff
Oh yeah!
It's closer to the truth to say you can't get enough
You know, you're gonna have to face it
You're addicted to love

Might as well face it
You're addicted to love!
Might as well face it
You're addicted to love!
Might as well face it
You're addicted to love!
Might as well face it
You're addicted to love!
Might as well face it
You're addicted to love!

Your lights are on

Your will

You're heart sweats

It was a great night at Shea, despite the horrible weather. The ceremony was fabulous, and the 1986 music throughout the night (including The Curly Shuffle) was nostalgia in its best form.

Keef made a good point, however, about aligning the piping from the jersey to the slacks.

What makes last night such an '86 night is I was ignoring the holes in the outfield and the injuries in the rotation and just working from the assumption that we're going to win every game for the rest of the year.
