1. Can someone post the formulae for magic numbers/elimination numbers?
|
KC Aug 13 2006 08:26 PM |
Not sure we need formulae - eek, I said formulae ...
|
Edgy DC Aug 13 2006 09:04 PM |
Philadelphia is at 32. Florida is also at 30. Washington is at 26.
|
Elster88 Aug 13 2006 09:09 PM |
This really hasn't sunk in to me yet. Either that or I don't care as much as I used to.

Well that's just it. I don't know how the rest of you figure out the Mets magic number and the elimination numbers for the rest of the team. Maybe formulae is not the right word. Just tell me how you do it.
|
Elster88 Aug 13 2006 09:32 PM |
Yancy explained it nicely in the Standings thread.
|
Elster88 Aug 13 2006 09:33 PM |
Example:
|
Edgy DC Aug 13 2006 09:41 PM |
Or just take the numbers I posted above, and subtract one for every Met win or a loss by the given team
|
Frayed Knot Aug 13 2006 09:42 PM |
The lowest "tragic number" for being eliminated from a division belongs - not surprisingly - to the Royals.
|
Elster88 Aug 13 2006 09:43 PM |
The formula works the same though.

It occurs to me that it's entirely possible the Mets may officially end the Braves divisional championship streak while the Braves are in town in two weeks. That would be delicious.
|
Willets Point Aug 23 2006 11:16 PM |
So the Braves are down to 19 now, yes?

Washington, who seemingly thought they were in the hunt as the trade deadline approached, has repeatedly blinked since then, and is now only 4.5 games ahead of Pittsburgh, and plummetting fast.
|
Yancy Street Gang Aug 25 2006 09:46 AM |
If Soriano walks, they'll have some 'splainin' to do.
|
MFS62 Aug 25 2006 09:59 AM |
Are we really concerned about the Braves not winning the NL East title?

I hope he improves his attitude before he takes over the Tonight Show in 2009.

The Royals have opened elimination season by officially dropping from the AL Central Division race. One more win by Chicago or loss by them and they are also out of the Wild Card race before the start of September.

2 more Met Wins and/or Braves losses Officially ends the 11 year run as NL East Champs for the Atlanta Braves
|
Willets Point Sep 11 2006 06:21 PM |
Have we ended the Braves' division-winning streak yet? It feels like we should have but the numbers don't add up. I totally need to gloat to my Braves-fan friend when it happens.
|
Valadius Sep 11 2006 07:02 PM |
There are 20 games left for both teams, and the Braves are 19 back. Almost there.
|
Valadius Sep 11 2006 08:07 PM |
Braves currently losing to the Cubbies, 6-0.

Now if I can figure how to reduce that loser in the 1 outfit.
|
cooby Sep 11 2006 10:23 PM |
He IS a loser, he even has it on backwards
|
Willets Point Sep 11 2006 10:25 PM |
Fixed. I feel like a loser for not being able to remember how to do that for so long.

This calls for a celebration!!! Let's roll out some celebratory clips from the ole YouTube vault:
|
MFS62 Sep 13 2006 06:55 AM |
I won't celebrate until they have been eliminated from the wild card race, too.
|
SteveJRogers Sep 13 2006 08:22 AM |
True, but this thread is more about ending the NL East Divisional run, especially considering how fruitless it has been, especially in recent years. All other long Divisional runs seem to include more than just a championship to show for it. Granted 1991-1999 was the real salad days of the run, and that did include 5 trips to the World Series, its hard to really say they deserve to be among the best, even in the NL. Very much like that Dodger run from 1946 (play-in series vs Cardinals) to 1966 (WS loss to the Orioles. Lots of NL pennants, only three rings to show for it.
|
Yancy Street Gang Sep 13 2006 08:42 AM |
So now the Yankees will be the longest reigning team.
|
SteveJRogers Sep 13 2006 08:45 AM |
Yes I meant 4 for that Dodger run, forgot the 1965 one...
