Congratulations to Beltran for being nominated, but is there anything weird about this award being sponsored by Viagra?

It's kinda funny I suppose, what's not funny is that Jose Valentin didn't make the list.

Even funnier that (1) this is being voted on by the public and (2) it's a season award and nominations are coming in mid-August.

Bad.

And if you REALLY want to be technical about it, Beltran did not have as bad of a year, or a s**t storm of a year that would merit a "Comeback" award

Oh sure he was injured most of the year, but he played the entire year, 151 games worth!

Granted thats not why we paid him, but there was a time when a .266 Batting (.330 OBP) with 16 HRs and 78 RIB was fairly acceptable, and again granted it was mostly based on his name recognition he did start in the 2005 All Star Game.

Maybe "Breakout Player of the Year" but not "Comeback"

MLB probably just wanted a New York player with name value to be on the ballot, hence no Valentin

I agree with a lot of what you said there Steve, but Breakout Player doesn't fit either....that's for guys who have never been good before. IMHO.

I don't see how you could put Beltran ahead of Valentin for this award. You could even make a better case than Beltran for Endy Chavez, who like Valentin looked like he was on his way out of the league. Beltran is certainly a lot better this year than last, but I don't see how his 2005 was so bad that he qualifies for this award.
