To those more photoshop savvy than I am, how can I take the template Yancy uses for his player of the month announcements,
cooby Aug 15 2006 08:00 PM |
How adorable is that? :)
Benjamin Grimm Aug 15 2006 08:16 PM |
I couldn't see the photo; the link isn't working. If it was, it would be very easy for me to slap your kid's photo where Beltran's is and I could e-mail you the image.
Centerfield Aug 15 2006 08:19 PM |
Yancy, could you email me?
cooby Aug 15 2006 08:28 PM |
I can see it; he's a doll
ScarletKnight41 Aug 15 2006 08:35 PM |
Apparently Shutterfly images don't show up on this forum.
Centerfield Aug 15 2006 08:43 PM |
Edited. He should be there now.

He is. And he's precious :)

WOW, this board has the cutest kids, CF Ryan is so amazing looking, and a mets fan to boot, was he upset about the last few games?
Johnny Dickshot Aug 15 2006 09:22 PM |
What a shot. I know hipsters who'd kill for that do.
Centerfield Aug 16 2006 08:29 AM |
Thanks guys. I can't take any credit. It's all my wife's doing. Irish, he's not so upset over the last two days as he is about the starting pitching outlook for October. And don't even get him started about Nady.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 16 2006 08:33 AM |
That looks great CF!
Benjamin Grimm Aug 16 2006 08:35 AM |
Check your e-mail, CF.

Nice photoshopping. Say happy birthday to cf for us, CF.
cooby Aug 16 2006 08:52 AM |
That turned out great, CF, have a nice birthday party! :)
Willets Point Aug 16 2006 08:55 AM |
I think you need to encourage him to take up pitching instead of outfield. The Ryan name sake and all. Plus it looks like he has Ron Darling good looks going for him. I notice he doesn't want to muss his 'do with a hat either.

Update: So with an assist from Yancy, I was able to create that image and then take it to Kinko's to get it printed on glossy cardboard. Getting them cut costs a fortune so my wife and I will be breaking out the scissors this week.
seawolf17 Aug 16 2006 10:33 AM |
Love it, CF. Nice. We did something similar for MiniWolf as a birth announcement:
Johnny Dickshot Aug 16 2006 10:49 AM |
Obviously the picture is the star, but the Topps trophy in the corner is the detail you gotta love.

Scissors?! Use the papercutter at Kinkos yourself. You can cut 5 maybe 10 at a time and its a much straighter cut. It'll take you 15 minutes.
Elster88 Aug 16 2006 12:40 PM |
A paper cutter was one of the best investments I've ever made. $20, IIRC, and paid for itself in lack of agitation/disgruntlement within a week.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 20 2006 08:08 PM |
How was the party?
Centerfield Aug 21 2006 02:08 PM |
Party was a blast. I'll give a report (if anyone is interested) after I upload the pictures.
Edgy DC Aug 21 2006 02:14 PM |
Not that I'm anything like in time, but you don't want to crop out that mysterious grip. Who knows what the hell he's throwing.
ScarletKnight41 Aug 21 2006 02:44 PM |
I'm interested!
Centerfield Aug 31 2006 09:25 AM |
Finally got around to uploading some pics...

Wow - that kid went through more wardrobe changes than Cher!

What's that? Korean or somethin'?
seawolf17 Aug 31 2006 09:51 AM |
That's awesome! I wish MiniWolf was Korean.
Benjamin Grimm Aug 31 2006 09:52 AM |
Then you should move to a neighborhood with a Korean milkman.
Centerfield Aug 31 2006 10:06 AM |
Thanks guys. Seawolf, you should have the ceremony for miniwolf anyway. My friends are all doing it. The only trick is figuring out what outfit he should wear. A buddy of mine who is Jewish, married to a Norwegian girl, says his kid is going to be dressed as a Viking with a yarmulke.
Willets Point Aug 31 2006 10:12 AM |
A yarmulke with horns would simplify things.

I can picture your future unborn kids in therapy when they're adults <g>
Willets Point Aug 31 2006 10:55 AM |
Well, that would happen anyway.

Getting a little stereotypical? When I was in the Army, I shared the barracks with an entire platoon of National Guard troops from Iowa. I was the first Jew most of them had met. I was told by several of them that they were surprised that I didn't have horns and a tail. Later
ScarletKnight41 Aug 31 2006 11:00 AM |
He wasn't talking about stereotypes. He was talking about the Jewish-Viking version of the Korean ceremony.

I know he was, and his comment gave me a chuckle. But I also wanted to point out my experience that some might take it another way. Another barrack-mate who heard the exchanges told me that IOWA is really an acronym. It stands for "Idiots Out Walking Around". Later
Edgy DC Aug 31 2006 11:11 AM |
And how should Iowans take that?
ScarletKnight41 Aug 31 2006 11:11 AM |
Back to Ryan and his party. CF - what were those party favors?
MFS62 Aug 31 2006 11:18 AM |

The same way they've been taking it from folks in other states for years. It was told to me by someone from North Dakota, and someone from Minnesota said he'd heard that joke, too. The Iowans are apparently not highly regarded by others from the mid-west. Years after that, there was a joke going around the internet about a plane crash at the Des Moines airport. The passengers and crew all got out before the plane burst into flames. (That part is true) Then, when they realized that they were in Iowa, many of them jumped back into the flames. Later

cooby Aug 31 2006 11:20 AM |
Those are sweet; thanks for sharing :)
Willets Point Aug 31 2006 11:22 AM |
My Mom likes to tell the story of the Iowan expatriate she met who wore a t-shirt that said "Iowa is a four-letter word".
Benjamin Grimm Aug 31 2006 11:35 AM |
So, Iowa is the New Jersey of the plains?
Johnny Dickshot Aug 31 2006 12:40 PM |
I think I'm visiting Des Moines on a biz-trip next month.
sharpie Aug 31 2006 01:10 PM |
The Midwesterners I know tend to dump on Indiana, not Iowa.

My wife ordered mugs, which she filled with chocolate or candy. Guests got to choose which one they wanted. She put them in those mesh bags you can see, tied them up with a ribbon, and then attached to the ribbon was a mini-baseball card like the one seen earlier in this thread. Only one guest was keen enough to identify the year and brand of baseball card.

CF, sorry for side tracking the discussion. In all the posts/ responses, I forgot to say how cute he looks. Great picture.

Very nice - you put our Bar Mitzvah party favors to shame <g>

Virtually all neighboring states make fun of each other and all pretend that their particular jokes are unique. They're not.
cooby Aug 31 2006 06:03 PM |
Lol, me too. My dad had a cousin there and we drove out and spent a few days. I was about 10, my sister and brother 16 and 17.
Willets Point Aug 31 2006 06:12 PM |
Virginia has a lot of jokes about West Virginia and most of them are quite raunchy and I think unique to West Virginia stereotypes.
KC Aug 31 2006 06:12 PM |
Great stuff, the little ham looks like he know he's the man and who's
Frayed Knot Aug 31 2006 06:20 PM |
Lotsa Scandinavians in that state (Iowa that is) and surprisingly still in somewhat homogenous locales.
